How bad is foley inj, hopefully it is a resting thing
Simmo's out should make up for foley being out
-
Polak will need to ruck as Vickery can't do it all by himself against bigger bodies in Maric and Griffin.
Hopefully Foley's "leg" is just a precaution as was Cotch's last week :pray.
I can't see Blingers coming back in from a hammy issue after just one week. IMO there'll only be 3 changes. Good to see Cotch and Martin back after their "rest" :thumbsup.
Dea's obviously had his 3 game run for experience and will go back to Coburg to work on his deficiencies in the VFL.
-
I watched the game on the box last week. I didn't see much of Mitch Morton. Did he do enough of whatever he was dropped for not doing to keep his spot?
Then again, do we have any alternative to him?
If Dimma read the riot act for not putting in last week, who, apart from Tweedle-Dea pays the price?
Did the injuries to Simmo and Axel save anyone else?
-
Mitch very lucky by the sound of it. Then again most of the side was poor so Dimma put them through a heavy training session on Tuesday instead. Yep Muscles it seems Simmo and Foley being out injured has given others a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday.
-
Right to decision to bring Polak in. Polak should go into defence if not in the ruck.
-
hopefully we finally get to see Webberley. giving kids that are our future games is what this year is all about.

I've been endorsing this kid all year. Being this is the fourth Sunday in a row we are playing I am tentatively hopeful that he makes final 22 for this week after being in the squad of 25 now since Round 4.
-
For Gods sake give Webberly a run, I can't believe Simmo would go out and everyone expects Polak to pich hit in the ruck when he had his best game last week at FF for Coburg (from the reports). We have lacked forward power all year and thats where he should play. Instead we will play him in the ruck out of position like we did years ago and then everyone will bag him because he doesn't do any good. Sheesh whats going on, why wouldn't Browne come in a swell as Polak and Vickery and Browne rotate.
Bad luck to Foley, good to see Cotch, martin and Tambling back
-
Obviously the club does not think Browne and Graham are ready to play AFL or are of a standard to play AFL.
Sad indictment on the RFC really as we have a 2nd yr player and a bloke who got hit by a tram two years ago to shoulder that burden.

Yeah I am baffeled, I know Graham is gone but how Polak is expected to ruck or pich hit in the ruck is amazing. Vickery won't go all day so Polak will probably spend a fair bit of time there. Maybe Tuck will be given a go like he did when we had no ruck....... well they were all injured or sick.

A guy on one of the other tigers forums saw webberley play in the 2's the other day and thought he was only so so. Its a bit of an indictment on our list he is in the mix to get a run given he's only so so in the 2's.

I went to the game. Webberley wasn't playing. He probably went down to Geelong as the "just in case" emergency.
-
Agree it would be good if Webberly played. I agree it would be great if Polak played in the forward line but he has to back up Vickery in the ruck. Agree with comments by WA Tiger.

Think there are a couple of lucky blokes who've kept there spots
And surprised at McGuane being dropped but not surprised with Morton

Bit of a wake up call for Luke after some poor discipline in the last 2 weeks
-
I wonder if we will see Astbury start in defence? He didn't look out of place there last week.
Wonder if Luke is also sore after that hit from Pods?
I'd like to see Rance kept in the front half. He's looked more likely there than he has anywhere else since that broken cheekbone.

What are you referring to taztiger?

Excuse my ignorance but why the asterix next to Cuz's and Thompson's name?

ON field, giving away stupid free kicks ie Ballantyne, there was 1 last week but it now escapes me
-
For me at this point in time Morton has run his race ..his downside needs much work.
-

I think because they were late changes after the initial team lists were submitted yesterday

Certainly shaping as trade bait.

MM should be a recruiter at RFC for starters. Would be very persuasive to both suitors and other clubs. :thumbsup

what are Richmond doing?
no second ruckmen?
drop McGuane and Morton?
Deledio still in defence?
what are they trying to do?
Adelaide are going to win!
we have no chance if we are not playing players in there positions for the future!
and we have come out and said that we are going to recruit experienced players???
why??? just draft kids and play them in there positions!
>:(

Polak is the second ruckman. He will be no worse than Simmonds who has been useless, he will not fumble and drop the ball like Simmonds and is a fair chance to take a few grabs.
I agree 100% with dropping Morton. He is one of the 'older' players who should be making every post a winner, trying to lead by example, but he has been very disappointing this year. He does not appear to have taken on much of the 'team first, defence first' mantra that Hardwick has been spruiking since day one and at this stage of his career he should be one of the first ones to 'get it'.
McGuane has had an up and down season with a disciplinary blemish and his game last week was quite poor with many mistakes. Webberley has been knocking on the door for weeks now and deserves his chance. Astbury showed a bit when he went down back last week so its an opportunity to give these 2 a crack down there and let McGuane go back to Coburg for a wake-up/refresher, a chance for him to have a look at his own game from a different perspective.
Deledio is still in defence because Hardwick is obviously building his initial basic game plan around defence and the run out of it. Whether Deledio is the long term option here is not relevant, he is our best option now while the team are learning and he will continue to be until players like Webberley, Farmer, Tambling, Dea, Edwards, Rance etc prove themselves to be the best long term options.
This isn't about Polak or Morton or McGuane or Deledio or even about going all out for a win each week, its about building a team of structures, rules, plans and players for the future. And if that doesn't satisfy our emotional need as supporters for instant gratification then that's too bad - no-one at the club has said or promised it will be any different to what it is. Luckily, many supporters can see it for what it is and will stick because of that.

i like Deledio @ CHB

Polak should never be considered a second ruckmen, this is where we have stuffed up, he should be at FF and played in the position he is familiar with. FFS we do this all the time, play players out of position and then bag them for not playing well. We should have had Browne in as well as Polak. Look at what playing Roughead in the ruck did to him, when will AFL clubs learn that the ruck is for ruckmen and not KPP. I am not saying you selected him for the ruck role smokey but he is not a second ruckman, he is a KPP being asked to take on a role outside his capabilities at the moment for his first game back, it's just stupid IMHO.

I'm with you WAT.
We really needed to throw Graham or Browne in the deep end this week with Simmonds out. Polak will get monstered by Maric and Tippett anyway so we might as well pick a young ruckman who can get some experience out of it even if they are no more competitive than Polly in that position.
And as far as what we are doing dropping players like McGuane and Morton, you could surely see they were poohouse last week and as players who should be our leaders they are lazy players.
-
Polak couldnt get a kick before the accident
-
Polak couldnt get a kick before the accident
"Before the accident" is in the past for crying out loud so let it go
What we need to deal with is the present and the future
Let's see how he goes tomorrow in Adelaide May 9th 2010 and concetrate on that rather than what happened nearly 18 months ago.

Disagree WAT. We don't have a 2nd ruckman capable of doing the job anywhere near good enough at present so Graham and Browne are being left at Coburg to learn, improve and show a level of competence before being promoted. In the mean time we are going to sacrifice players who are not good enough but can take the knocks - Simmonds and Polak. We already know that Simmonds doesn't come close to holding his own any more and so it will likely be with Polak in the ruck, except that when Polak is sent forward he is more likely to present a viable option. And if you took my point in the context of the whole post then you would know that I believe Hardwick is building. learning and teaching in small increments starting at the backline, regardless of the outcome of the game. So whether we are competitive in the ruck or not is of little consequence and hence why I can see the reason (and agree with it) for selecting Polak over Simmonds. It will only matter to people who can't see past winning the game.
-
Have to agree with Smokey.
We haven't got anything approaching a first ruckmen let alone a second. Doesn't matter who is in there and I am not fussed with Polak given a go because from what I have seen of him this year at least he will use his big frame.
-
Agree with Smokey.
IIRC the best games that Polak has played have been in the ruck, both at Freo and late last year at Coburg. So it is NOT a KPP playing ruck but a 2nd ruck, part-time as a KPP.
At Richmond, aside from his games as LMID, he has also played better as second ruck than anywhere else.
-
;D
take the smile of your face. while he has the skill set that we lack unless he can find the ethic and work rate and ticker he will always be how does one say it in and out of games.
well do dh this bloke needs a right royal kick up the behind to achieve anywhere near his potential.
if i was asked the question i dont know if i would take him at all.
i have to admit i have never rated him as a player and have been highly critical of how does one say it oh yeah the soft edge to him.
-
Can see both points of view and both have been expressed very well but overall agree with Smokey

If Melbourne keep performing well maybe they'd like him, have Mitch and Cale playing together???

Yeah great another player playing out of position, can't wait for to see him there and Polak in the ruck??????
-
Luke was needed. Good decison
-
McGuane played as a forward as a Junior. Plays well one on one. Good on the lead. Skills on the run are no good, why not try him up forward.
Farmer out... any reason?

Not sure about Farmer but no great loss at the moment, On McGuane, he is not a junior anymore and he has played in the backline since being with us. Polak has played as a forward and thats where he should be, he only played ruck when we had no others. People may say that Polak can't do any worse than Gus or Browne, well lets see then, Browne should have been played IMHO regardless of what he is doing at Coburg and from all reports over the last 3 weeks he is doing well!!!

The idea of playing McGaune up forward was discussed in Round 2

Farmer has food poisoning

Yeah and it's take 5 rounds to get him in there, he should have been training to play there during the pre-season instead of Polo who has played there for about 5 minutes this year ???
