Cousins to miss Adelaide trip

Ben Cousins has been ruled out of Richmond’s team for Sunday’s match against Adelaide with back soreness.

Cousins received a knock in his back during the Tigers’ loss to Geelong last week.

“Ben was very sore early in the week, but we believed he was still a fair chance to come up for the match,” Richmond Football Operations Manager Ross Monaghan said.

“His soreness has persisted throughout the week, so the decision was made that he wouldn’t be able to play at the level required.”

Cousins’ spot in the 25-man squad was taken by Adam Thomson.

Richmond’s team will be finalised this afternoon.

getting the impression that Richmond are erring on the side of caution in regards to players fitness and selection, which is a good thing.

It's hardly a revelation. The writing is all over the wall.

Must be close to the end.

Why exactly?

He is genuinely injured

He will play out the year and it will be assessed then.  :thumbsup

Beat me to the punch Owl. It was nasty and I will admit to being surprised the review panle didn't look at it

And I agree with al, good to see us not taking any chances with half fit blokes for a change

It is interesting how so many people at the moment share your sentiment bj17.

I actually find it strange to be honest.

Probably because when you speak to the cubs (in particular) they speak so highly of Cuz and his professionalism and how they are learning from him.

I just don't think any of us should under estimate the value in that

Must be close to the end.

Why exactly?

Only this week we have had a football department explaining why certain players last year were cut. They are not part of our future, nor is BC who basically finds himself in a similar position.
Continuous injuries, little on field impact & ongoing off field distractions adds up to a former champ well past his best struggling in a wooden spoon team.
I'll be disappointed if he is on the list next season.

That like everything else has a shelf life.
My opinion differs to yours on this WP and that's ok. :thumbsup

You're kidding surely. If you can't see how much his performance has dropped off this year then I can't help you.

Sorry Mr Magic - maybe I've misunderstood your post

But I took your original comment about the end being close as meaning he was about to pull the pin in the next few weeks. And I was asking why "soon".

I have no problem with the end of the season side of things but I don't see the end of Ben's career being "soon". I see it as perhaps (depending on a number of things) being after round 22 not before

I think we're on the same page.
Cousins deterioration this year has been marked for mine sadly.
His relatively short time with us is going to fizzle out but the relationship has been of benefit to player and club for sure.

I think it's an example,WP,of people being subconsciously guided by te media.

I agree! Cuz is not out because the end is near, he is out because we cant kick or shephard the player who is parked under a kick placed on the head of a player! He actually got up and attempted to continue! He showed more there than alot of others wouldve in any team but apparantly it is because his time is up?

Perhaps it is Ox, as I said I just find it strange.

Actually it's one of the reasons I am looking forward to seeing Benny on Foxtel's "On the Couch" next Tuesday night to see what people views after the interview

Yes he got up again but you are conveniently ignoring his ordinary form with that statement.
He looks a long way off last year & if he hadn't missed through injury I would have seriously considered dropping him.
and that has NOTHING to do with the media. 8)

Spot on Bill. Cuz is past his prime as a player but he is invaluable as an on-field teacher and as a man of honour he will be a Tiger for the rest of his playing days....on or off the field.
