Brogan out for Port which should help.
No late changes for us.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/95255/default.aspx
Game starts at 3.10pm EST.
-
I think we can win today (famous last words) *grimaces, puts fingers in ears, waits for comment to blow up in face*
-
16 degrees, windy and bucketing down with rain. So it's going to be a slog by the sound of it.
-
Wayne Campbell on ABC 774
We think we've progressed this year. Our poor peformances aren't as poor as earlier in the season (last week was poor but it was 5 goal loss as opposed to 10 goals in the first few rounds). Defensive key indicators are up. Ball pattern movement is becoming more evident but still a long way to go.
Not a great day for a big forward to make his debut but we just want Griffiths to contest and get as many games into him over the next couple of years.
Hoping Port run out of legs after their trip to Darwin but you've got to be in the game at 3/4 time to make use of that. Haven't really focussed on it to be honest.
A more running side is just the way the game is going. He likes having 4 runners on the bench as the game has got quicker.
Players who have stood up this year? Newman and Cotchin.
-
Griffs starting on the ground :thumbsup
Polly and Cuz on the pine.
Port have the breeze. We need to stay with them.
-
Wet conditions in a heavy slog and bog won't help Port after last week.
Nahas misses early on. Blow the siren up by a point.
-
Martin great play out of the centre :bow
Free to Nahas 30m out. Point. A repeat of last week :P. Hopefully not.
1 - 0
-
Rushed point.
2 - 0
Yep Tucky blow the siren ;D
-
Nahas awkward kick to Jack. Goal :gotigers
8 - 0
-
Yes Drew Morphett did say sheets of water ;D
-
Playing well into the breeze. Dominating. Maybe we should play in the wet every week. Today makes Moorabbin in the 80's look like a bowling green. ;D
-
The Richmond Ducks Tucky
Lucky there. Farmer slipped over but thankfully the Port player kicked it OOTF.
-
Jack shoots and OOTF :P. Had two teammaates clear as well.
-
Tuck does the hardwork at the stoppage to Nahas kicks a goal off the ground :gotigers
14 - 0
-
Great play by Edwards and Tambling to block Chad Cornes force a ball up and create the initial sequence which led to a Nahas goal. Up 14-0 into the breeze.
-
We're playing K.I.S.S. footy in the wet and it's working.
Ah should have shut my mouth. Port out of the middle to Ebert.
14 - 6
-
These umps must be making up for last week. Mind you we are first to the ball.
-
Polak gives off to Newman OOTF. :banghead
-
Cotch gets it forward, White off the ground for a point.
Tambling fights for the ball, Tuck gets a pass to polly who offloads to Newy who misses everyhting despite being a better kick normally :scream
15 - 6
-
Moore rushes it through. 22 mins gone.
Jack drops a mark but regathers then misses again.
16 - 7
-
Lukey into the goalpost and snookered himself :o. Courageous but ouch! :-X
-
Lukey okay but with a higher pitch voice ;D
-
Courage by McGuane rushing the point slamming himself into the post.
Just a word of advice Luke don't feel them count them. :thumbsup
-
:rollin
Luke off counting them Tucky lol.
Ebert out cold and off on a stretcher.
-
Another tick for Luke McGuane runs into the contest and Ebert off on a stretcher. Port fwd line loses another soldier.
-
Eberts knee looked like it was backwards, but I think it's only a bit of a head knock for him.
-
Point to Port. Touched.
16 - 9
28 mins gone
-
Thanks for the updates guys, in America land and finding afl is not an easy feat... Are we wasting chances or are the conditions making it tough??
-
Riewoldt could have had 3 goals in this quarter.
Instead one goal one point and one OOTF.
Up 16-8.
-
Free to Blingers. Goal :gotigers
22 - 9
-
Conditions are awful. Sheets of water. The buggy to stretcher Ebert came on and has left tyre marks in the ground that's how soft the ground is. They were saying 50mm of rain in Adelaide.
Tambling goal 22-9 up 1 min to go to quarter time into the breeze.
-
Possies: 95 - 68
Clearances: 15 - 6
However Port get the easy quick centre clearance again to Hitchcock.
22 - 15
Lukey just has a knock on the knee according dr death and is right to go.
-
1/4 time
Rich 3.4-22
Port 2.3-15
Goals: Riewoldt, Nahas, Tambling
Cotch (BOG), Martin, Newy, Tuck best. Good to see Blingers putting his body on the line as most Tigers are.
-
Cotch is making it look like a dry day out there. One grab all the time.
Tucky has 75 Supercoach points after one quarter. The way he's going he will get 200.
-
Possies
Tuck 13
Newy 12
Cotch 9
Martin 7
Farmer 6
Gus has 10 hitouts.
Great mark by Griffiths :thumbsup
-
Great start against the breeze. Up to us now to keep being first to the footy and K.I.S.S. in the wet with the breeze in the 2nd quarter. And of course make the most of our chances. A couple of poor misses although it is difficult against weather.
Cotch is having a blinder. Handling the slippery wet footy like it's a dry day. Edit: great minds think alike wayne :thumbsup
-
What a mark Griffiths. Clean pair of hands. For those that saw it you know what I mean what a gem. :cheers
-
Matty White 5 out of 5 kicks 100% efficiency :o
Hitchcock off with a dislocated shoulder. So Port may be down to 2 on the bench although Ebert is back sitting on the interchange.
-
White long. Rushed through by Cornes.
23 - 15
-
Cuz good mark at HF. quick long and Jack chips a clever goal :gotigers
29 - 15
-
What a goal Jack. You've done it once it won't work each time though soccering off the ground.
Up to 2 goals for the day. Up 29-15. :clapping
-
We bagged him last week but Farmer has been very good today. Been quite steady. :clapping
-
Port miss.
29 - 16
-
Lids long over the pack. Cuz slides a point
Poor kick-in by Port straight to Cotch 40m out. Point.
31 - 16
-
Cotch marks the kick in and kicks a point. 31-16.
-
Great play by Cotch and Cuz. Classy by both. Cuz finds Jack 30m out. Goal :gotigers
37 - 16
-
Cotch BOG so far. The clean pick up boys in the wet was a sight to see. Clean and crisp no exaggeration. Off to Cousins who kicked to Riewoldt. Marks and goals. Up 37-16. The rain starting to fall.
Cotch is a superstar. :cheers
-
Yes he is Tucky :thumbsup
-
Why do they make excuses for teams when they're getting beaten by us?
Port played in Darwin - big effing deal :banghead
-
Nahas free on the boundary 40m out. Port ferals going nuts :lol.
Rushed through.
38 - 16
-
Nahas gets a free and ball rushed through 38-16.
FNM stuff the excuses and what they say. Hatred is a motivator. One day our time will come. :thumbsup
-
how good was newman in the first 1/4
come on boys
fcking FIGHT :pray :pray
-
Why do they make excuses for teams when they're getting beaten by us?
Port played in Darwin - big effing deal :banghead
Mark Maclure on ABC who usually bags us actually being very complimentary of the Tiges today.
-
Cuz shoving it up his critics today as well.
-
Whitey off with a sore thumb.
-
Free and 50m to Cotch. 60m kick clears pack and a point.
39 - 16
-
Salopek injured elbow and off.
-
Nason goallllllllllllllllllllllll :gotigers
45 - 16
-
Nahas wins when outnumbered finds Nason who runs in and kicks a goal. 45-16 :bow
-
Ah a free to Nahas inside 50 turned over :scream.
-
1/2 time
Rich 3.4 6.9-45
Port 2.3 2.4-16
Goals: Riewoldt 3, Nahas, Tambling, Nason
-
i threw my cat in the air with joy as Nason goal went in ...
-
Shocking decision. In a game in the wet they let it flow but a bloke who aint letting another bloke get up and then get the free when a team mate pushes him out the way is just about where the the umpiring fraternity sit with the general public these days. :help
Webberley have a shot mate in hindsight. Up 45-16 at half time. :thumbsup
-
i threw my cat in the air with joy as this goal went in ...
Yep, my Jack Russell is in hiding from all the "Woo Hooing".
-
Especially soft soft soft soft on a day like today FFS!
i threw my cat in the air with joy as this goal went in ...
Poor pussy cat :o :rollin
-
Deledio long kicking over the packs have been very important
-
the 3rd quarter will be very tough with the wind.
i hope we put numbers behind the ball.
come on lads - fight
-
Possies: 120 kicks and just 49 handballs .... they're old school footy stats. Total: 169 - 162.
Cotch 18

Newy 15 (14 kicks)
Lids 11
Farmer 10
Cuz 9
Tackles 68 - 64 (Tuck 9, Collo 7, Edwards 6, Gus 6, Nason 6, Cuz 5, Webbs 5 )
Hitouts 22 - 22 ..... Gus has 17.
-
Tackles 68 - 64 (Tuck 9, Collo 7, Edwards 6, Gus 6, Nason 6, Cuz 5, Webbs 5 )
That's unbelievable for both sides. If they keep that up they're on 130 tackles in a game pace :gobdrop. That would be our total tackle count over a whole season under Plough :lol.
Good to see some of those names in there. Even if they aren't getting much footy themselves like Gus, Nason and Webbs they are still contributing significantly defensively.
-
Port down to 2 on the bench with Salopek and Hitchcock injured. Ebert back on after being knocked out. Those concussion tests must be easy to pass.
-
Rodan skids a shot but touched on the line.
45 - 17
-
Clearances: 31 - 15 in our favour
Rain come back ;D.
Ben Griffiths off right thigh strapped just above the knee :(.
-
Rushed point to port
45 - 18
-
Breeze has died down a touch but windsock still favouring Port's end.
Salopek back on. So Port only one-down on the bench.
The bookies have us overwhelming favourites now at $1.12 to Port's $4.20
-
Port miss.
45 - 19
Inside 50s: 1 - 12

-
20 inside 50's to about 5 this qtr and its virtually where we were at half time. :clapping
Perfect quarter to us. That last goal would've made Port's heads drop. All that dominance with the breeze for no return.
Let's run the game out now and bury them :thumbsup
-
we're home, if we can't win it from here with the wind we may as well shut up shop.
fantastic performance thus far, the spirit and desperation for the ball is te best I've seen from a richmond side fr a long long time. No dubt signs are that a real team spirit is being forged.
oh btw I have to laugh at santa claws :lol what did you say again? :shh
-

Great tackle by Bligners but Jack's kick off the ground misses as well.

Ball-up 15m out. Blingers handballs towards the goals but it's rushed.

-
Absolutely brilliant work, pity i couldn't see the excitement bit I couldn't be happier!!!
-
It's going to funny seeing the boys sing the song. Half the team plus the coach haven't sung it before. Expect lots of mouthing :lol.

What he said :thumbsup :gotigers
-
EVERY SINGLE PLAYER ON THAT TEAM can hold their heads up high tonight, total commitment, not 1 player squibbed it :cheers
a couple of special mentions to the lesser likes
Maty white - i dunno whats happened to you son but something just went click in the hawthorn game and hasn't looked back, suddenly NO fumbles, runs lines and uses it respectably. I have never rated him but i dips me lid to him bc this lads turned the corner.
Gus gumby graham, what can I say? this guys actually shown he is capable of manning the trenches whilst we sort out our ruck division, wll never be a gun but is doing what we need, creating a contest and having some impact even. Dominated the hitouts
-
I think we can win today (famous last words) *grimaces, puts fingers in ears, waits for comment to blow up in face*
well in enjoyed the win by the tiggers and the collect. Put a tigers jumper on the little fella and took him to the pub.
Think no 32 made a massive statement to the critics today. Sublime efffort in the wet.
-
Gus also had about 13 tackles also.
Lesser lights in those blokes stand up and guess what we win.
Great four quarter effort.
Agree TM noone squibbed it.
Defensively we were top notch today. All the one percenters and the tackling especially was intense.
Hardwick has got this team going in the right direction.
-
Astbury impressed. Clean hands and poised.
-
Looks to me like there is some REAL DEVELOPMENT happening at the club with some of these blokes now. Still early days but a few are making some positive progress. This has been the missing ingredient for years and years, early signs are encouraging, but still away to go. be happy.
-
Astbury impressed. Clean hands and poised.
Yep Griffiths showed some good signs too. That clean speccie in the second and clean on ground level.
Cotch was just silk today. So clean with his hands and so creative.
-
Gus also had about 13 tackles also..
Andy Collins too...
White is fast.
-
Why do they make excuses for teams when they're getting beaten by us?
Port played in Darwin - big effing deal :banghead
Funny that Froars, smell an agenda here?
-
Fantastic win for the boys and the coach. Hiilarious watching the song being sung, more blokes were in the circle than on the outside lol. Everyone did great, but our forward line structure going forward looks the goods. Astbury very good and Ben Griffiths will be a very good player. So clean of the ground, big grabs ... where headed in the right direction here people and Hardwicks done a great job so far.
-
not getting carried away with 1 win bcthey'll still be few and far between but u can def sense there is something building in this group. Its a collective TEAM spirit, ven when getting beaten we never look broken (bar the geelong game) - in the whole scheme of things this is the most important ingredient in developing a strong culture, not there yet but on the right track
-
i threw my cat in the air with joy as Nason goal went in ...
I don't have a cat Bents :o but it was the first time in the game I allowed myself to think we were a reasonable chance.
-
EVERY SINGLE PLAYER ON THAT TEAM can hold their heads up high tonight, total commitment, not 1 player squibbed it :cheers
a couple of special mentions to the lesser likes
Maty white - i dunno whats happened to you son but something just went click in the hawthorn game and hasn't looked back, suddenly NO fumbles, runs lines and uses it respectably. I have never rated him but i dips me lid to him bc this lads turned the corner.

And let's not forget the effort of Luke McGuane when he charged down a kick to rush the behind, taking a heavy knock to the leg in the process, only to get up and charge the contest 30 seconds later while still on one leg and cause a spoil (and Ebert's concussion). Bloody brave and bloody strong and a timely reminder to us all (me included) that there are more facets to the value of a player to a team than just decision making.
And I lost count of the number of times I saw Tambling arise from the bottom of a pack/contest. An important observation for a number of reasons.
-
So pics from the game. Don't you just love wet weather footy lol :thumbsup

Shane Edwards improving quickly also. Hardwick is bringing improvement to some players who some of us thought were gone!
-
Shane Edwards improving quickly also. Hardwick is bringing improvement to some players who some of us thought were gone!
Yep. Agree with him or not, Tigermonk is on the money when he says our single biggest failing as a club has been our inability to develop kids. Well, I have to say that from all I have seen this year, we now appear to be getting that very important aspect right.
-
Graham has strung 3 good games together.
It's upto Vickery and Browne to step up also.
Our midfield is looking quite good ATM.
Astbury and Riewoldt are looking the goods and throw in Griffiths and the future all of a sudden is looking a little more rosier.
Edwards is our most improved player on the list this season. :thumbsup

Hiilarious watching the song being sung, more blokes were in the circle than on the outside lol.

The contact was a bit higher than the leg too .... ouch! :-X

Agree smokey. A very unselfish and team orientated game from Blingers today. Lots of hard bodied work off the ball and at stoppages.
-
Why do they make excuses for teams when they're getting beaten by us?
Port played in Darwin - big effing deal :banghead
Funny that Froars, smell an agenda here?
I agree FNM, These are top level athlete's with some of the best facilities and medical/training teams in the land. If they cannot recover in a week there is somthing serioulsy wrong. No way should it be an excuse. :sleep

A snippet from Mark Williams press conference tonight:
“They got in there in front of us and before us. Tom Logan, Dom Cassisi, David Rodan and Travis Boak had one clearance between the four of them.”
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/95283/default.aspx (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/95283/default.aspx)
Would that be the same David Rodan that posters on here consider our worst ever trading error in living history?
:lol
Probably missing our 2nd biggest ever trading mistake - Jay Schulz.
:lol

This round showed we haven't missed any of them. Raines and Meyer were emergencies for their respective sides.
-
nearly 20 years since I have had a bet on the footy.
This week I backed richmond to win by less than 27 sat $6.50 and to win by less than 40 at $5.15.
Just before the game I started to get cold feet so went to lay off at 26 points in at 1.90 but couldnt get on - too late.
We won by too much and this is what i think of that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbSMxJVqXn4
;D :thumbsup
-
Matthew White was teriffic today...he was one of the few players to "keep his feet" all day.
Well done Matt.
Goes without saying best game of the year for Bling and Cousins.
Nahas is a South Australian specialist.

Very important win for the club. Will bring real confidence. Jack was fantastic. Most importantly it will not be a winless season. One cannot under estimate what effect a winless season would have had on the club. We were lucky port did not have motlop and brogan and the weather conditions suited us but having said that we won interstate. It was a great effort.

yesterdays conditions were made for fair dinkum hard work.....motlop is a lazy prick, if he had of played he would not have got a touch.
-
As Tuck said it suited our style of football the conditions. Tuck was brillant in the conditions sa was Martin and Cotchins
-
1. Deledio
2. Riewoldt
3. Cotchin
4. Martin
should be signed on 4+ year contracts

both are very young for ruckman ..

Webberley have a shot mate in hindsight. Up 45-16 at half time. :thumbsup
Lol that was the worst reversal decision you'd ever see. I sat right at that forward stuff and lost it! :banghead In saying that I thought the umpires generally umpired really well for wet weather footy.
-

Thats what my daughter said too... ;D
-
Just got back from my first trip to AAMI.... Wow what an experience lol. South Australians are... different.
One of the most enjoyable days of spectating I can remember. Wet weather footy, the pies and jam donuts were hot. Reminded me of old Waverley days. :)
We had a huge crack.
Don't know how it looked on the TV but at the ground things that were obvious.
Cotchin and Martin's first qtr was first class. Martin is a monster. Loves the don't argue has Michael Voss written all over him.
Deledio was the cleanest player on teh ground all day. Everything he did was clean and he stood out like a sore thumb. Hitting tagets 30+ metres away and took the ball with 1 touch.
Matty White was amazing. Don't think he lost a 1 on 1 contest all day and his run and carry set up so many scoring shots.
Farmer and Moore was suberb down back. Farmer especially had a crack all day. Showed with his head in the right place, with some confidence and expereince he can play. Moore posistioned himself so well all day.
Tuck was as good as ever. Suited him game perfectly and stood up.
Cousins best game of the year, made a big claim for a spot next year. Just oozed experience, didn't have the pace or distance in his kicks but showed why he's got as far as he has with some great decision making possessions.
Graham contested all day. Beat Trengrove in the ruck and for a big man has to be one of the best wet weather games in the modern day. Amazing effort.
Newman was fantastic as was McGuane, Nason and Nahas.
Jack was good kept presenting not a day for a KPP but kept trying and 4 goals is a huge effort. Might have liked to have seen him pick up the ball a bit more. In the stands it didn't look great but it payed off. 14 goals in 3 weeks. Seeing its nearly the world cup an appropriate sledge would be = Shhhhhh!..
And the guy taht deserves the most prasie:
Damien Hardwick. Just got the job done. He's notciably tried many different things this year which is absolutely what you ask for but some nuffies see it as a bad thing. Had the right game plan for wet weather footy and it paid off. Deserves the most credit as he's copped slop towards his game plans and tactis this year.
Development is going well and long term it looks bright. I don't expect to beat the Hawks next week but we'll keep improving and the light is getting closer.
Great win! I'm still sick from celebrations... :gotigers

I was wrapped about the win!! :cheers :gotigers
The parts of our game I was most excited about was the way our young midfielders won the hard ball and how our side kept fighting, scrapping, tackling and putting their bodies on the line all day. Martin and Cotchin were amazing, inspired by the efforts of Tuck no doubt. Riewoldt has all of a sudden turned intto the forward we all hoped he would. Astbury and Griffths look the good too in the short time I have seen them - just showed skills to show us they have super potential.
Nason and Nahas played their small man role in these sort of conditions perfectly. McGuane, Moore and Farmer were hard at it and defended individually and as a unit beautifully. Lids and Newman were clean and used their super boots sublimely. The kick it long to a forward contest seems to be paying off for us in recent weeks as we just don't have the decision making skills or confidence to execute a string of pinpoint short passes down the ground. Kepp playing to our strengths I say and back players like Griffiths (that mark was amazing over C. Cornes and their ruck), Astbury, Jack and Graham to take the big contested grab.
White looked like he ws running on perfectly dry ground while the opposition were slipping and sliding in their attemtps to catch him. Great game and has really stepped up lately.
Graham was a champion and while rucking against a 2nd grade ruckman, you can only compete who you're matched up against each week and he killed him.
Proabably the only two IMO who, while fighting and using the same endevour as the rest of the team, didn't have the same impact on the game as the rest - King and Collins. King looked like he had dived into a mud pool but didn't do a huge amount while Collins was almost unsighted for mine all day.
I'm thrilled that my little fellow also got to sing the song this year! Keeping him upbeat and loyal each week has become a challenge but a win gives me weeks of credit to call upon. :thatsgold

And I lost count of the number of times I saw Tambling arise from the bottom of a pack/contest. An important observation for a number of reasons.
Has been the main focus of his role for the team this year smokey.
I'll say until I am blue in the face (and I was yesterday it was bloody cold in Adel yesterday :P ;D) sometimes it isn't about the number of kicks & handballs. You get a given a job by your coach and you do it - simple as that

This was IMPO the best team effort and individual performance by nearly all players that I have seen from the RFC in many many years. Really they were 100% committed to the cause, they were hard and played with all the guts in the world.
Please back it up next week boys.

Still soaking it up - In my reminiscing, I just cant get over that first 10-20 minutes of the 3rd Qtr where port pushed and pushed and we just fought and fought, we were on the edge of our seats ! sorta waiting for the floodgates (LOL) to open for port, but the way we just stuck at it was some of the most inspirational stuff I have seen from a Richmond team in many a year.
Yeah it is just one win in the wet against port, but it was freakkin great all the same.

I'm not sure if anyone realises but this Ports lowest score ever, beating their 4.8.32 against us in 1999.
Thing is, we lost that game!! :lol
It was 32-30. Must have been REAL wet.

I remember that game well, we couldn't win a bloody trick, we had the ball trapped in our 50 for a full quarter and couldn't score or get a free from the ump and I was fairdinkum going to throw my TV set through the effing window. It really was a mud wrestle. They do tend to throw the rule book away on days like that though. Well, lots of the rules at least...
