Title: Rohan Connolly rates Hardwick 8th best coach in the AFL (Age)
Post by: one-eyed on June 26, 2010, 02:24:17 AM
ROHAN CONNOLLY in today's Age.....

The rate of improvement of Hardwick's Richmond, meanwhile, has been quite astonishing, even to his coaching peers. ''For a while, I seriously thought they were going to get beaten by 100 points every week,'' said one this week.

Instead, the Tigers have won three of their past four games. Hardwick's side learns apace, and is sticking to a formula of hard-at-it contesting and quick, direct movement. He's left Jack Riewoldt one-out, the results spectacular, sparked veterans Shane Tuck and Ben Cousins back into life, and boom draftee Dustin Martin is just one of a number of promising kids who get better week by week. Not bad in the space of 13 games.

Connolly's 2010 coaches ladder

1. MARK HARVEY (Fremantle)
2. ROSS LYON (St Kilda)
3. MARK THOMPSON (Geelong)
4. PAUL ROOS (Sydney)
5. BRAD SCOTT (North Melbourne)
6. RODNEY EADE (Western Bulldogs)
7. MICK MALTHOUSE (Collingwood)

8. DAMIEN HARDWICK (Richmond)

Engineered remarkable transformation of a team regarded early as one of the worst ever to three wins from past four games, with young stars emerging everywhere.

9. BRETT RATTEN (Carlton)
10. DEAN BAILEY (Melbourne)
11. ALASTAIR CLARKSON (Hawthorn)
12. MATTHEW KNIGHTS (Essendon)
13. MARK WILLIAMS (Port Adelaide)
14. MICHAEL VOSS (Brisbane Lions)
15. NEIL CRAIG (Adelaide)
16. JOHN WORSFOLD (West Coast)

Hardwick has been dudded here theres no way Scott is doing a better job. North are doing what they have always done. Scott started with a much better list as well.

Further evidence that we are becomming the media darlings.

Very very harsh on Neil Craig IMO.

Are they really a better list or are they being held up by their older guys like Harvey? We will see how they go when he retires

I personally think it is the list he inherited being that he bought in 7 new senior players (including 1 rookie elevation), 4 of which are yet to debut.
IMHO that would put him way behind Hardwick, seeing as Dimma blooded more kids than any other team while still improving their game each week.
