Title: Bombers trying to circumvent the draft
Post by: one-eyed on June 29, 2010, 02:53:52 AM
ESSENDON has announced plans for a "Baby Bombers" academy where players as young as 14 would be groomed for AFL footy.

The proposal, which hinges on the approval of draft concessions, would see hand-picked junior footballers relocate to Melbourne.

Club greats such as James Hird and Michael Long would be mentors, with daily football duties combined with classes at a high school.

As many as six recruits would join the program each year, with the Bombers able to draft them once they are eligible, using protected picks.

I remember Ramps suggesting a while back for Richmond to start up an Academy.

This sort of thing should be considered draft tampering.

Slimy worms.  Surprised this 'initiative' didn't come from McGuire, although if it had then Demetriou would have agreed to it without a second thought.
