The AFL site is tipping Freo....
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Richmond is one of the form teams of the competition at the moment, but Fremantle has been the surprise packet of the year. Fremantle has historically struggled on the road - and especially at Etihad Stadium - but has already beaten Essendon and Carlton there this year. You would expect the visitors to be too strong through the midfield, making it tough for the Tigers to supply enough ball to Riewoldt for a winning score.
PREDICTION
Fremantle by 15 points

Things are certainly going our way early. No Barlow, Tarrant and Fyfe (rate that kid highly).
Riewoldt looks like he only has to contend with Silvagni or McPhee. He should be too good for either of them. If Griff gets McPhee, Griff should take him deep and use his height.
If we can dominate the middle (ruck aside) we're in with a very good show.
P.S. I hope someone breaks Ballantyne's face as well.

Sportal tipping us again...
WE THINK:The Tigers are full of confidence and with that in mind a win against an undermanned Fremantle is not out of the question. In fact, the Tigers have won three of the past four matches between the sides and with Fremantle's historically poor record at Etihad Stadium, despite two wins there this season against Carlton and Essendon, this one shapes as an intriguing contest. Again, all eyes will be on Riewoldt and with injuries in mind, if the Dockers can't find a suitable matchup, their makeshift defence will be in for a tough afternoon. Still, the word consistency - one rarely used down at Fremantle in their 16 year history - has been a feature of this talented, young side in 2010, with the 36-point loss to Collingwood at Subiaco in Round 8 the only real poor performance of note. As to whether the Dockers can cover for Barlow, who's been nothing short of a revelation this year, remains to be seen. He's led their possession count in seven of 14 matches so his absence cannot be understated. The head says Fremantle but the feeling is the Tigers are riding some sort of wave at the moment and for their sake we won't jump off until it comes to an inevitable screeching halt. In a tight one Richmond by 12 points.

We should be able to win this.
Dockers short down back where we are starting to get a system gelling.
Dockers down their best mid this season.
No real goal kicking target other than Pav. Others might be required down back.
Freo in Melbourne
We just need to win 40-50% of the stoppages. Obviously Sandilands will get the lion's share of the hitouts. Against Sydney in the middle period where we were getting smashed, Pyke and co were killing us

Taz unlikely to take on Tigers
By Nathan Schmook
1:00 PM Thu 08 July, 2010
FREMANTLE will make a point of protecting its defenders this week with star stuff Chris Tarrant unlikely to take on Richmond sharpshooter Jack Riewoldt at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
Coach Mark Harvey said Tarrant, who didn’t train on Wednesday night and is struggling with an achilles injury, was likely to join key defenders Antoni Grover (hamstring) and Luke McPharlin (knee) on the sidelines.
Riewoldt leads the Coleman Medal race with 53 goals and has benefited from improved inside-50 numbers in the Tigers’ past four wins, with Damien Hardwick’s side going into attack more than 50 times a game.
“We've looked at their supply over the past month,” Harvey said from Fremantle Oval on Thursday. “Their younger players are really starting to make the most of their opportunities and really establishing themselves in the team.
“And then on top of that they've got their big boy down there that's probably in the best form of any forward in the competition.
“(But) it's what you do before the ball comes down that's important… how much pressure you can put on up the field.”
Harvey said Fremantle had options to cover for its trio of injured key defenders, with Michael Johnson and Alex Silvagni in the side and All-Australian centre half-back Adam McPhee primed for a return to defence.
The coach said Fremantle had put a lot of time into preparing for the 195cm Riewoldt, who is listed as 2cm taller than cousin, St Kilda star Nick.
“He's got a different physique that probably suggests he's not as tall as Nick, but he actually plays tall,” Harvey said.
“He travels, he tries to work his opponent over (and) his timing is spot on at the moment. He's one grab and he's getting really good supply.
“I think as more time progresses with him and the more study that goes into him - and we've put a lot of study into him - the more you have to keep finding different avenues about the way you want to play football.
“We'd like to think we can continue on in that area but we understand we might have to support [our defence] a bit more.”
Harvey also confirmed Nat Fyfe (concussion) won’t play, with a host of young players in line for selection, including Nick Suban, Clancee Pearce, Tim Ruffles and Jesse Crichton, who is yet to debut.
Senior players Byron Schammer and Steven Dodd are also being considered to face the 15th-placed Tigers, with Michael Barlow’s leg injury prompting at least three forced changes.

LOL at Robbo on SEN :wallywink
He tipped Freo because he thought the game was at Subi. 5 minutes later after flooded with 100 txt messages he goes oh that Richmond game is at Etihad but I'm still tipping Freo as they are just a better team. 5 minutes after that he goes hmmm you know Ox as the Richmond game is at Etihad a lot of their "crazies" will show up ( that's us :lol ) and if there's 35-40k Richmond supporters there it'll create a cauldron-like atmosphere which will lift the spirits of the players. So I think he's tipping us after all that. Expert commentary at its best lol :wallywink
I'm not sure we'll get 35-40k btw against Freo and at Etihad which a number of our supporters hate when its our home game. Anywhere near 30k would be a good crowd IMO.

Richmond's spearhead set for a feast
JUSTIN CHADWICK
July 8, 2010 - 6:39PM
In-form Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt could be set for another goal feast in Saturday night's AFL clash with Fremantle at Etihad Stadium as the Dockers frantically scramble to reorganise their injury-hit defence.
Fremantle's three key defenders - Antoni Grover (hamstring), Chris Tarrant (Achilles tendon) and Luke McPharlin (knee) - are all sidelined through injury, spelling bad news for the fourth-placed Dockers.
Riewoldt leads the Coleman Medal count with 53 goals but it's his past seven games that have sent shudders through the competition.
The 21-year-old has booted 38 goals during that period, including a bag of 10 against West Coast, two tallies of six and another haul of five.
Fremantle have been reduced to three 'viable' but hardly ideal options to cover Riewoldt - unheralded rookie Alex Silvagni, the out-of-form Adam McPhee or a rusty Michael Johnson.
It's little wonder Fremantle coach Mark Harvey said the emphasis would be placed on cutting off Riewoldt's supply rather than stopping the "big boy" himself.
"It's what you do before the ball comes down that's important," Harvey said on Thursday.
"It would be fair to say we've looked at their supply over the past month.
"He (Riewoldt) tries to work his opponent over, his timing is spot on at the moment, he's one grab and he's getting really good supply.
"He's playing with an enormous amount of confidence and he'll go to line up for goal and he'll kick it before he lets go of it on his boot."
Tigers midfielder Ben Cousins, who was hospitalised during the week, has been replaced by Jeromey Webberley in the only change to the team that beat Sydney in thrilling fashion last week.
The Dockers made three changes, replacing injured trio Michael Barlow (broken leg), Grover and Nat Fyfe (concussion) with Nick Suban, Clancee Pearce and Tim Ruffles.
It will be the first AFL game for 19-year-old Ruffles since he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in round 17 last year, with Harvey keen to see him work in tandem with Hayden Ballantyne in the forward line.
The Tigers have won four of their past five matches and Harvey conceded it was a danger game for his team.

:lol if someone (farmer or king) can smash him early hopefully he won't embarrass us again.
Take him out like Johnny Howat took out Johnny Barnes a few years back. Nice hit that one.

Fremantle $1.50

May be a job for the enforcer Matt White

if our midfield boys can give Jack enough supply up forward, we should be able to win the game because their defence is in tatters basically. having Barlow out will help us somewhat, because the Dockers will have to get used to not having him there.
-
Sydney are a tougher opponet for us. I expect to beat Freo by a few goals.

Thing is for a quarter and a half against Sydney it was back to the bad old days getting smashed in the contest, unable to get the ball to our HF line and when we did just spotting up Jack who was double teamed. If Sydney kicked straight it would have been all over. Hopefully we don't lapse like that against Freo.

Need to keep Pavlich under control and we dont need a Ballantyne type kicking 3 or 4 to make things difficult. Also like to see us curb Mundy.

Freo are really worried about Jack cutting loose :thumbsup
Dockers can combine to cover losses
SAM LIENERT
July 9, 2010 - 6:14PM
Fremantle have backed team unity to help them cope with the loss of key players to injury for Saturday night's AFL clash with Richmond at Etihad Stadium.
Assistant coach Barry Mitchell acknowledged teammates would have to step up in the absence of star first-year midfielder Michael Barlow, who broke his leg against Port Adelaide last round.
The loss of veteran Antoni Grover (hamstring) has also hurt a side already missing fellow tall defenders Chris Tarrant (Achilles) and Luke McPharlin (knee).
It leaves the Dockers lacking an obvious match-up for in-form Richmond full-forward Jack Riewoldt.
But Mitchell said Fremantle's midfield and defence would work together to cover those losses and try to starve both Riewoldt and the other Tigers' forwards of opportunities.
"If you can slow the opposition down you get time to get support to your defenders," Mitchell said on Friday.
"Our defenders work well as a group, as does our midfield, so it all works in together.
"Obviously (Riewoldt's) kicked a lot of goals and he's been in good form.
"But it's not just about him, (Andrew) Collins kicked the last two goals last week to win the game for them (against Sydney).
"We've looked at Riewoldt, but we've also looked at the other guys.
"It's about us winning as many positions as we can to win the game."
Mitchell acknowledged the Tigers posed a tougher challenge than the side they beat by 39 points in round five.
At that stage, Richmond were in the middle of a nine-match losing streak, but have since won four of their past five games.
He said the Tigers' midfield had been boosted by the form of improving young ruckman Angus Graham, who could not break into the side until round eight.
"They've been playing really well, won four of the last five games, so we're expecting a really tough contest," Mitchell said.
"Their contested footy and their tackling has been really strong, so it's going to be a big challenge."
Graham will face a major test of his form on Saturday night against dominant Fremantle big man Aaron Sandilands, who is playing his 150th AFL game.

-
Umpires killing us in the first half >:(
Killing us, its a deadset slaughter, i am sure the holding the ball rule only applies if we are tackled. The tackle by Cotch in the first quarter was a classic yet not rewarded, Cotch takes one step and is pinged, very frustrating.
-
Got to man up Hill. Can King do the defensive forward job properly and stop either one of Duffield and Hayden.. they are everywhere.
Jacko good hit on Ballantyne. Just a hip and shoulder off the ball and Ballantyne got hurt cause he's 130cms.
Ballantyne is a pig and has butchered 3-4 kicks, how is he playing AFL, bring back Jeff Farmer.
Vosso can get stuffed.
-
Too many injuries. A big testfor the boys goinginto the last quarter.
-
What a win
-
Our bravest win in a long long time :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping
-
This is fvcking marvllous
Before the game I picked Deledio, Connors and Tuck as our best three and I reckon they would b in our top 5.
-
That has to be one of the best wins since....we beat Sydney last week lol
Spewing about Griffiths and Angus Graham. Loved Big Griffs long goal, what a kick he has on him...nice glimpse of the future. And Astbury took a bewt pack mark and goaled too when they had five chimps hanging all over Jacks back. He looks like he could be a really strong forward option in the future too.
-
I guess there is no doubt now that Matty White is One Eyed Richmond. :thumbsup
-
What an amazing win.
Hats off to Connors, Farmer, Webberly all who haven't played much AFL footy and would have played close to 100% of game time at 100% work rate.
Dimma coached real well completely shut down Hayden after half time.
Just loving life.
-
Umpires killing us in the first half >:(
Geischen is a child monster :wallywink
-
Damn that was a good win!! :thumbsup :thumbsup :clapping
At this rate we better stock up on Artline's and mini footy's!
Very impressed with Farmer tonight and Webberly was linking up superbly all night. Edwards had a cracker and set up plenty of forward assaults.
Whitey showed immense courage to keep on going with the dodgy eye. Martin again...pure brilliance and Newy....what a champion captain.
Moore once again had a superb game.
With the way we are playing atm, the boys are forcing the commentators into saying good things about us. You could tell Healy was doing it through clenched teeth!! SUFFER GERARD!!! :lol
On the downside, injuries don't look good but hopefully things aren't as bad as they look.
-
Awesome game, blood was bled and the response was estatic.
-
Id like to thank Hayden Ballantyne for his brain fade and going pn the ground to early.
Thanks midget.
-
Daniel Connors played the game of his career with 35 touches :clapping :clapping :clapping and a goal with Brett Deledio (29 possessions), Chris Newman (26) and Shane Tuck (30) all important
:thumbsup

The roar when Collins ran in to kick the goal on the goal line was one of the loudest Ive heard.. Probably since 2005 when we beat Hawthorn and Deledio kicked a goal from 60 to put us in front.
Enourmous noise for 25-30k crowd. Just massive.
-
The best win in years
Was so much more satisfying than even last week.
After Farmer's mistake on the win we were severely threatened but we kept coming back and never gave up.
Unbelievable win.
I know understand how Dimma wanted Connors back so much. Along with Lids and Newman we have our best players across half back.
Newman for mine was BOG. The pin point passes were some of the best deliveries you will see.

The funny thing with this team at the moment is you don't care if we're down a couple of goals because our second halves have been strong. I mean 8 goals to just 3 after half-time with a reduced bench in this age of mass rotations is amazing.
I think a lot of credit should go to our senior players (the 23+ group). They are playing their best footy and leading by example. The cubs are following suit which in turn helps the senior players even more to play their own game.
We're still nowhere there yet as we still lack size, class over the park and make too many dumb decisions (thankfully freo did too) which will get exposed and punished by the top 3 sides but the foundations in terms of workrate and teamwork have been laid and we play footy which is great to watch. We actually play better and look more dangerous playing old school footy - long kicking and contesting. It's when we hesistate not going first option or try to be too cute handballing too much ring-a-rosy style we often stuff up.
-
How good was it to hear the crowd ROAR and BOO at the Maggots as they left the ground?
It was damn good to beat the other two teams on the park tonight - Freo and the Maggots.
Those bloody maggots should be investigated by the Police for impersonating AFL officials and for ground invasion during a major sporting event.
-
P.S. I hope someone breaks Ballantyne's face as well.
Ditto. I'm very quickly coming to dislike him as intensely as I dislike Milne.
He has shot past Milne with a bullet, at least Milne can play.
Last night he wimped out when he heard the footsteps at one contest, real Rhyse Shaw effort.

Shows how far the club has come MT when you say the top 3 side will expose and capatalise on our errors. Wasn't that long ago that every side would done that.

A bit of a quirk that the 5 wins have all come against interstate sides - if we beat the Crows it becomes a clean sweep of beating interstate teams.
Not sure if we have ever done that since the competition had a 6th interstate side in 1997.

Mayneman use to go under the nic Pav4AA on BF a few years ago until he got owned claiming Mundy was a star and Lids a dud :wallywink. He disappeared the year after they made the PF when they flopped back to a bottom 4 side. Surprise surprise he's back under a new nic with Freo in the top 8 muttering more of the same anti-Richmond rubbish and getting owned lol. Some very strange characters appear on BF who are actually serious about what they post :help.

We don't need the AFL to protect us from interstate sides in the draw unlike some clubs who wear B&W :yep
We've never beaten the 6 interstates all in same year. Closest was 5 back in 1998 when we won in the black shorts but lost in the white :P.
R5 West Coast - Won at 'G
R8 Adelaide - Won at Footy Park....... only away win for the year
R10 Port Adel - Won at 'G ................ Duncan Kellaway did his knee
R14 Fremantle - Won at 'G by 90
R21 Brisbane - Won at 'G by 77
We lost by 11 points to Sydney in R13
