Interesting to see if Taylor gets a gig in the Coburg seniors this week. One RFC player on the bench to miss out at least with 13 named there.

Westhoff named on the ressies bench again. No idea why Coburg names him there when he lines up at FF each week ???. Ronaldson is a ruckman.

Willy are the ladder leaders. I'd guess we shouldn't be too surprised if Coburg loses by 10 goals to them. It's just the margin was only 3 goals at 3/4 time  :-\ even if Willy had the breeze in the last. It appears our (RFC's) lack of depth is showing especially now that we are getting a few injuries and suspensions.

It's good to Browne in the bests. He's been one of the few putting in consistent efforts each week. Two in a row for Mitch in the bests too IIRC.

Post reported again.  :-\
I heard that so I asked WP about the report - "No idea. Was he playing? Might as well not been out there"  :-\

If Postie has been reported it won't go well down at the VFl tribunal given it was his first game back after a one-week suspension  :P.

I wonder if Jordie played on Aker so Aker will call him a useless hack this week on the radio lol.

For those that went....

Where did Morton play today - did he kick 3 goals playing forward or from further up the field in the midfield/off half-back?

How did Taylor go?
Title: Re: Coburg vs Williamstown, Sat July 17
Post by: TFL on July 17, 2010, 06:11:42 PM
Morton played in the middle or wing all day, played well and is building up his endurance for the position.

Taylor played well in patches, come in and out of the game but looks classy when he turns it on.

McMahon didnt play today he is injured.

Joedie din't play - ankle I believe

Mitch played on the wing and was very good. Credit to him - he is clearly working on the things he needs to ans is reaping the benefits, like Tucky before him

Tayor flashed in and out - Defensively his game needs alot of work but no doubting his talent.

Hicks was a disappointment - don't let the 2 goals fool you (they came about in the 1st 20 mins of the game) he really struggled

First time this season I've walked away disppointed in Gourdis. Was OK until 3 qtr time but made a couple of horrible mistakes early in the last which resulted in goals and then he appeared to drop his head and started playing with the bad habits of season's past, little of no chasing, disinterested etc

As for Jayden Post - I can only re-iterate what I said last week about him - in a word disinterested.

However, I will add and I texted this through to MT earlier and I am prepared for the torrent of abuse and whacks I am likely to receive but I would seriously consider trading this bloke at seasons end that's how far backwards he has gone this year. I always had question marks on the defensive side to his game but he really doesn't seem to able to (or perhaps it's a case of not wanting to :-\) embrace the Dimma game plan.

He is clearly at Coburg to work on certain deficiencies in his game (like Tuck and King did & now Morton is) but I really haven't been unable to to see any improvement in the things that I would think are the short comings in his game. The talent is their just not sure of the desire or want is; as I said he looks disinterested.

Actually his whole season could be summed up in the first minute of the game today when he took a strong contested mark 10 metres out, played on (why I'll never know) and missed (point I think it was) - it was exactly team orientated stuff

Whack away  ;D

call me crazy but I struggle with the term disinterested being used to describe the efforts of elite sportsmen...admitedly I haven't seen posty in a while but from what I saw when he was in the seniors, it wasn't his interest span that held him back it was serious deficiencies in talent that saw the ball constantly slip through his hands then between his legs...c'mon, let's not sugarcoat things, call it how it is :shh

See I bj17 - I reckon he has talent. Best example I can give is I believe he is a terrific contested mark.

But to me his biggest deficiencies are first and foremost his defensive game that is at times non-existent which leads to the 2nd thing IMHO and that is his work rate - I don't think it is good enough and that's why I reckon he's spent nearly the enitre season at Coburg. His refusal to chase and/or is reaction time to do so makes his work rate or lack of; shine like a beacon. Put simply IMHO he doesn't work hard enough when he hasn't got the ball or when he needs to pressure his opponents

It is this work rate issue that had me fired up last week when it was suggested he may play AFL this week - if he isn't prepared to do the hard work what message would it send to play especially when you have guys who have busted their guts all season (read Browne & Gourdis depsite his game 2day) and can't get a look in  ???

Cheers TFL and WP  :cheers.

Good on Mitch for working hard on his deficiencies. An very good effort in a losing side to kick 3 goals from the wing/midfield.

I'm hoping it's 2nd year blues for Postie but he has gone backwards from last year  :-\. He hasn't yet found a position either and he's been tried at CHB and CHF.

Certainly not having a crack at WP as Post wasnt very good today, did some good things but not much.

He could be excused today as he copped a knock in the 1st qtr and had blurred vision for a while.

I dont think there is a problem with him be disinterested, he is certainly keen to do well. His body language may suggest that but he certainly is keen.

He does however need to improve his work rate, the way in which the footy is moved inside 50 doesnt help tall forwards either.

WP... Goo held Little goaless till time on 2nd qtr when he came off and Rance went to Little, first ariel contest Rance didnt get a hand on the ball, goal, should have heard Goo on the bench, he was spewing, agree he looked peeed off in the 4th qtr, think it was at his team mates, far to much room inside 50 in the last qtr (10 uncontested Willy marks in or around their 50) makes it very hard with so many no pressure kicks coming at the forwards, but your right he must learn to stay focused if he is going to play AFL
On Morts, he has'nt had the privelage of playing this year with a winning midfield or attitude, hope he's back in the Richmond side next week, worked hard all day, looks a lot more hungry to get the ball in his hands

i think he is, he seems to be becoming acustom to the running more and more each week.

He was really blowing up the first few weeks but is handling the load a lot better, he had some good clearances today from the centre.

He did play a lot of junior footy as a midfielder so its not totally new to him.

well they all probably come in here to see who Ive put on the trade list, afew year ago I had foley on it and he came good then I stuck riewoldt on it and hes come good, slowly slowly if I work my way through the list we could win a flag in about 2013 lol :gotigers

Post was hardly setting the world on fire when he was promoted into the Richmond side late last year, however he looked quite good at the higher level. Certainly wouldn't be the first player who doesn't stand out at VFL.
As long as he's working on the things set out for him then that's ok, pretty soon to make a call on a kpp in his 2nd year.

Round 13 Match Report
coburg tigers website

Seniors:

Burbank oval is never the warmest place to play football and Saturday was no exception.

We lost Dean Polo before the bounce as he was held over for the Rich v North game the following day and we had to take Dylan Grimes from the Reserves game at half time.

We started off well again as Carnell received 2 free kicks in quick sucession but we could only capitalise with 1 goal from those.

At the first break we had a 13 point lead, but that was erased in the 2nd quarter when we allowed Willi to kick 5 goals to nothing and at the main break we were 21 points down.

It looked like it was going to get messy in the 3rd quarter when again Willi got early goals, but the boys rallied to kick 4 late goals and at the final break we were 3 goals down.

Unfortunately similar to when we played them in Rd 3,we were overrun but a bigger and stronger team and eventually went down by 62 points.

We managed to hold Little and Akermanis for 3 quarters, but their experience told out in the end and they kicked 3 and 2 goals respectively.

Mitch Morton played a great game with 40 possessions in the midfield and also chimed in with 3 goals.

Gourdis was good on Little for 3 quarters and rance gave good rebound from the backline.

Once again big Andrew Browne did the majority of the ruck work and was solid as was Power and Carnell.

Goals: Morton 3, Hicks 2, Carnell, Puiselli, Taylor
Best: Morton, Rance, Browne, Power

Williamstown:     2.3          7.8          11.9        18.14     122
Coburg:            4.4          4.5          8.9          8.12        60

Mathematically the Seniors can still make the finals and but we must ensure that we play consistent football against Geelong and Frankston over the next 2 games.

Reserves

The boys were coming off a disappointing 2 point loss to Nth Ballarat and were keen to defeat the top of the ladder Williamstown.

Similar to the seniors we stuck with them for 3 quarters, but again the stronger bodies got over us in the end to what was a loss we could not afford to have with a view to finishing in the top 4 .

Grimes was very good in defence until half time and it was great to see the old captain Trav Ronaldson running around for the first time.

Jono Morris playing in the midfield was tough and played his best game for the year and the big Hammer Dahl and Fewster were solid in the ruck.

Murph Ambbrose gave good run off the wing and Fahey held up well against the bigger bodies in defence.

In the end we went down by 65 points.

We now face 3rd place Werribee this Sunday and it really is a must win game.

Williamstown:     4.6          6.9          12.14     18.18     126
Coburg:             3.1          5.4          7.4          9.7        61

Best: Morris, Dahl, Fahey, Ambrose
Goals: Meroli 3, Fewster, Cattapan, Westhoff, Lucin, Morris, Dennis

Bring him in now, hope that he gets a couple of 25+ possie games, and boosts his trade value.

I think he's one of those guys that will be up and down for his whole career.

Based on what Newett said Morton and Browne were best for Coburg and you would think first to come into the Richmond side this week.
