From the Herald-Sun.....
Gary March said another big decision already had been made - he will seek another three-year term as president at the annual meeting in October.
March yesterday revealed:
* THE unexpected loss of the Royal Oak Hotel pokies pub to the Carlton Football Club had cost the Tigers $300,000 in crucial revenue;
* CONTRACT extension talks with young guns Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin were progressing well but the club would stay well below the salary cap again next season;
* THE option of playing home and away matches in Tasmania was still on the table;
* TALKS had started to replace idiot Smith and Luxbet as sponsors;
* THE club would move into its new $20 million facility by Christmas;
* BLOCKBUSTER home matches against Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon at the MCG had been requested for next year;
* CLUB debt remained at $4 million, but a small operating profit would be recorded this season.
March said Richmond's transformation was not another false dawn.
"I'm absolutely convinced this time - and only because I now have all the right people around to make sure it will happen," he said.
"We've never had that before. We've got a fully funded, fully motivated football department and a fantastic group of people running the club. And we've done really well at the draft table, as people are starting to realise.
"We've had the support of our members through some pretty lean times and are hoping we can reward them over the next three years with some competitive footy that sees Richmond back in the finals."
March said captain Chris Newman was the unsung hero.
"I don't think Chris has got the accolades he deserves," he said. "He had a tumultuous first year as a new captain and has shown unbelievable leadership. He is the catalyst and I don't think people realise that - not even some supporters and members."

I'm a little concerned that we're only going to make a small profit this year.
We should be receiving the back dated $100k per game we get for every MCG game that we didn't receive for last season.
I know they get other hand outs, but Melbourne are posting a $2m profit on the back of these bonuses

I dont like to agree with you Infamy or for that matter GB either but you raise a valid point! 300k loss from the pub is a decent wack but what about the rest.

The loss of the Royal Oak was only from July 1st I think so not even the whole year.
Also we are paying $800k or so under the salary cap so that's almost another million we're not spending
Plus we don't have Wallace's massive salary
What are we spending on?

I believe we increased our spending on the football department quite substantially this year. I have no problem with that expenditure when done responsibly.

our corporate and sponsorship income is nigh on the worst in the league and has been for yrs and yrs. Thats why I shake my head at supporters like madtiger who talk about increasing membership and gameday takings with a snap of the fingers to get rid of our debt. The fact is we are finding it very hard to make any inroads whatsoever on that debt and that is why a Tassie deal is imperative to our fiscal bottom line. stuff norf, WE NEED IT badly, otherwise we'll never cath/match the collingwoods and Hawthorns of the competition

Yeah but what option has the club created to alleviate this debt. Why have there been no functions to start reigning in the debt? Why isnt there a Bank Account deliberately set up with a major bank where our supporters can all go in and make donations whether its a large amount or just someone wanting to put up $20 or $50. Our club is talking about it, but what are we doing in reality? The club needs to do something not just talk about it.

Spending isn't the problem, its the relatively small income stream that we generate as a football club.
We still perform quite poorly when compared to a number of clubs especially the bigger clubs such as Collingwood, Carlton, Hawthorn, Eagles and the Crows.
Now we have lost 2 major sponsors and the Royal Oak so that shrinks our revenue even further.
Servicing a $4 million debt is expensive so we really can't afford for much to go wrong before we are in real financial trouble again.
-
We haven't lost two major sponsors, they are staying on next season but we asked for more money and they said they couldn't so they are just taking a lower level sponsorship.
-
whatever! Still not good
-
Now maybe the anti Tasmania people can see why we need this if not just to clear the debt.
I'm happy for 4 games if that's what it takes to clear the 4 mil then hand it the gypsys to screw up.
I would think though if we start making finals corp money will come from everywhere.

whatever! Still not good
I disagree, with the GFC behind us and the positive momentum behind Hardwick's arrival, this is a great opportunity to make more money

Wasn't replying to you infs just the circumstance in general, whatever the reasons! not good

Sponsorship in sport is incredibly difficult to access - not saying the Tigers won't deliver, they have done a pretty good job in the past few years but people seem to think it is much easier than it really is.

How'd Melbourne get rid of their debt?
-
Took payments from Indian Bookmakers to fix matches?

Just for weather and pitch information

fundraising from the supporters,
fairs fair, a great effort from their supporters while going through lean times the past 2 seasons

At an average of $100 per member, its half a mil, but we should be banking an extra million from the extra MCG bonuses last year alone, plus another sum around the same this year
The salaries of Richo, Brown, Johnson, Brown & Coughlan are gone but I'm sure we're front loading contracts to make some of that back up
I understand we're spending more on the football department, but I can't really see where. We still have the same fitness guys, we only have 4 assistant coaches. I know we hired a specialist weights coach this year but that's hardly a massive amount of money

You going this week Infamy ?? ::)

Didn't we step up and put on 3 full time recruiters?
Remember its not just the salary but the on costs.

I'm in Sydney this weekend for work, so unless you have a teleporter I can borrow then no
I may not even watch the game at all unless we win and I download it during the week
