Ross Lyon doesn't care if Jack kicks 6 goals again. Good for Jack's Coleman chances if he can bag another half-dozen :pray

 Saints prepare for other Riewoldt
 By Ben Broad
 Tue 17 August, 2010

ROSS Lyon is happy for Coleman Medal leader Jack Riewoldt to repeat his round-11 efforts against St Kilda - just as long as his own side continues to improve a fortnight out from September.

The Saints meet Richmond at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, eager to maintain their momentum ahead of a qualifying final.

Earlier this season Lyon’s men overcame Richmond by 38 points with Riewoldt booting six of the Tigers’ eight goals.

Asked if he had any different tactics to combat the cousin of his own skipper Nick, Lyon didn’t seem fussed by the prospect of the emerging Tigers star again hitting the scoreboard.

“I’m happy for Jack to kick six and the Tigers to kick nine,” the coach said on Tuesday.

The better sides don't change their game plans too much, they back it to beat lower sides. I can't see the Saints playing 4 guys on Jack. It might be a good chance for him to kick 4 or 5.

-
Agree although I believe they will pay Jack more respect than last time

-
No surprise with the AFL site's tips.....

 QUESTION MARKS
Which Riewoldt will have more effect? This is the first time the two cousins have played on the same field since Jack became a bona fide star, but Nick’s seven-goal haul last week reminded everyone just which of the two has long been considered one of the best in the competition.

Who will win the ruck? With Michael Gardiner a chance to miss at least one more week with hamstring tightness, the Saints have inexperienced duo Ben McEvoy and Rhys Stanley sharing the duties. Angus Graham has done well for Richmond but is starting to show the effects of shouldering the ruck load all season while Andrew Browne is yet to prove his worth. The Saints should come out on top.

 WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
No one in their right mind would tip the Tigers to win this one. Maybe a mid-season upset would be on the cards but St Kilda wouldn’t let one slip at this stage of the campaign.

 PREDICTION
 St Kilda by 41 points.

I think 41 pts is rather generous.

It was 40 odd pts last time... and that was when we were in the middle of our purple patch.

Lets hope the return of Cotchin and the retirement of Cuz can inspire a bit of passion.

Shows how much we've been owned by St Kilda when not one Tiger has won the Ian Stewart medal in the 6 years it's been going  :P.

Saints and Tigers to honour Ian Stewart
 Wednesday August 18, 2010

Players from the St Kilda and Richmond Football Clubs will once again compete for the annual Ian Stewart Medal, when the two teams meet at Etihad Stadium for traditional Saturday afternoon football in Round 21 this weekend.

The Ian Stewart Medal was established in 2004 as the brainchild of music guru and Saints’ fanatic, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum. It has been developed in order to recognise the only player in league football history to win Brownlow Medals and Premierships at two separate Clubs.

Ian Stewart played 127 games with St Kilda from 1963-70. He also won back-to-back Brownlow Medals with the Saints in 1965-66 and was a member of the Club’s 1966 premiership team.

In 1971, Stewart joined Richmond in a sensational swap for dual Tiger premiership player Bill Barrot. Stewart went on to play 78 games at Richmond from 1971-75.

He won the Brownlow Medal in his debut season with the Tigers, as well as the Club’s Best and Fairest that year. Two years later, Stewart was a key member of the Richmond side that defeated Carlton by 30 points in the 1973 Grand Final.

After Saturday’s game, the player judged best on ground by Channel 10’s commentary team will be selected as the winner of the Ian Stewart Medal. The medal will be presented to the player in the Club change rooms after the match by Channel 10 commentator, Andrew Maher.

Past winners of the Ian Stewart Medal are:

2004 – Austinn Jones (St Kilda)
2005 – Nick Dal Santo (St Kilda)
2006 – Lenny Hayes (St Kilda)
2007 – Leigh Montagna (St Kilda)
2008 – Stephen Milne (St Kilda)
2009 – Brendon Goddard (St Kilda)

 St Kilda       5.2-32

Goals: Riewoldt 3, King, Cotchin, Taylor
-
Making dumb mistakes this quarter. The short kick straight to Nick Riewoldt which was a let off as he msised. Then Newy not seeing Taylor to his left and getting caught.

 Rance     10
 Tuck        9
 Edwards   9

-
Made a few dumb mistakes that quarter which allowed the Saints to get in front and get a 3-goal break but good work by us not to give up and we've stuck with them to half-time. It's the style of team footy we've played that has been most impressive. Mostly proactive and playing on rather than getting stuck in a mark kick game (a small patch in the 2nd where we did stagnate but we fixed it).

 Lids is on fire.
Jack's Coleman hopes are looking good  :thumbsup.
Cotch's class we've been missing over the past 4 weeks.
Credit where it's due to Kingy today. Playing well.

Saints really rely on Dal Santo, Goddard and Montagna to get a heap of it. Not much on the horizon youth wise for them.
-
V impressive effort to work our way back into the game in that qtr.

-
Wrong option by Dusty and we gift Patto a goal  :scream

 61 - 72
-
Great spot by Lids again. Edwards to Morton and finds Jack in a 1-on-1 which wins. Jack 5  :gotigers

 67 - 72
-
Hope Stuart When cops a huge fine. You'll give a 50m penaty when a player complains about bad language. Don't tell our players "You're batting so far out of your league"

 That's a disgrace.
-
Ah Troy missed everything and then Collo gets in Jack's way  :-\

 Saint getting away now.

 67 - 86

Thrusty off with knock to the hip
-
Blowing out now. Disappointing as we stuck with them for 3 and a bit quarters. I guess at least we kept Milne quiet today.

 76 - 113

Cuz off. Hopefully not a hammy  :-\
-
Tuck finds Jack on the lead who takes a good mark 40m out. Miss

 77 - 113
-
I thought a one hand disposal was a throw umpire  ::)

 Collo squeezes a point.

 78 - 114
-
Lids finds Moore inside 40m out. Goal  :gotigers

 84 - 114
-
				Crowd: 33,400

 Great mark Jack  :clapping
-
I think we have been treated badly by the uppires in this game.
It looks like the Saints can hold on to the ball and get away with it but we just have to touch it and we get pinged for holding.
Still there are some great signs for us in the year to follow.
-
Collo kicks long and Moore fumbles it across the line.

Morton from 50m point as well.

 Great saving spoil Goo  :clapping

 86 - 115

				Jack 7  :gotigers

2010 - Jack Riewoldt (Richmond)  :thumbsup
-
Interview of Cuz and Jack on the ground, straight after the game....who won??? lol

-
				Really happy with the game.

Saints really missed Jones and Hayes.

Shows how good we can be when we free up Cotchin and delivery it properly inside 50.

Thought all players had a great dip, Martin the only one that was a bit off, although tagged a bit by Armitage.
-
75 goals to Jack now. What a fantastic achievement.

If you had suggested that J.Riewoldt would be on top of the Coleman at the start of the year, you would of been locked up in a straight jacket.

I know its a team game but I still think its exciting to have the Coleman medalist.....The last time we won anything apart from a couple of Grand Final sprints was the reserves GF back in 1997.

Time to put the "Vodoo" on Barry Hall tonight.
-
				50m against O'Reilly

 75 - 94

 Keep fighting Tigers

Yeah, that  50m penalty and goal was the killer. Opened the floodgates.
My take on it was the Saints player was umming and aahing about taking his free kick for the out on the full, the ump told him to play on, and O'Reilly went at him accordingly. Then he changes his mind and pings him for infringing over the mark. The goal and ultimately the match were a freaking gift.
Boy, did the air turn dark blue at my place for a good 5 minutes there :banghead
-
				High to Cotch missed  ::)

 Free to jack missed   ::)

 Post snaps and misses

 76 - 94

Yep, I remember those as well. Cotch got dragged round the neck at the centre bounce straight after the 50m gift to St. Kilda, but it was ignored. We got it forward anyway, where Jack was receiving double the amount of attention his cousin Nick seems to need to draw a free, but there was none forthcoming ::) They clear it and score a goal. A 12 point result right there.
Who knows what might have happened if, just for once, the umpires would treat everybody equally, as a Channel 10 commentator said earlier in the telecast referring to Wenn's outrageous comments to Connors.

				just got home from game.
Great effort by the  tiges today,.
Pity there was about 5000 of us supporters there today.
 Liked Jake Kings game :thumbsup
Seen the last of Nahas :thumbsup
-
well if any of the supporters are like me they saved themselves up for a withering burst in R22 next sunday at etihad, can only handle that place in small doses :lol

Jake was awesome, can't believe I'm saying I'm happy to see him go around next year. I'm one of Jake's biggest knockers, good on him.

Yeah Nahas is done, unfortunately just to light. I don't mind short players with pace but you need the body size of a Jared Moore, Milne, Ballantyne, King.

Nahas unfortunately is just to light.
-
You don't mind a loss when you get a lot of positives from the game and they put in like that.

-
really enjoyed todays game thought we never gave up.

King has earnt his new contract. Has played some ripper games this years. Sorry Dimma but as a club we need individual medals like this and jack will be a deserving winner. Good on him!!

Graham today gee one of his worst games this year. So slow to the contest, getting into players way :banghead :banghead

Edwards. Terrible!! Back to playing last years crap.
-
Edwards wasnt great, hasn't run out the year well.

-
Edwards wasnt great, hasn't run out the year well.

i heard Dimma say he will come close to the B&F this year and if that happens it ill be a injustice to Jack, Newy or Lids.

has played about 6 good games this year thats about it. The other games he doesnt do much with the ball and is not damaging.

Has no left foot either like most of our players except Cotch, Lids and Martin.

 Fantastic
-
I thought overall we saw some fantastic signs going forward today. I was really pleased with the performance of many, I dont want to be negative and I wont be but if we change the blokes over who hurt us with blokes who can play a bit then we will go real well. Cotchin was sensational today, the strength in the contest was fantastic. Our midfield was terrific I thought, Jack well he won the medal, and yes I will say that King was terrific today as well.

-
Whats with the anti Edwards stuff - shows great courage the same as Kingy, got 20 plus possies and still you don't cut him any slack.

For me I'm  a fan , he makes some mistakes but he tries his guts out and takes them on. There certainly are others that are worse than Edwards

 PS: He's 20/21 isn't he.
-
Edwards has had a good season IMHO.

-
edwards was okay, just made some bit foot skill errors yesterday

-
Edwards had a few clangers todat but overall was OK.

Very good season by Edwards but still needs to lift next season.
