Title: Mitch Morton on SEN with KB @ 10.50am
Post by: one-eyed on August 19, 2010, 11:02:25 AM
Mitch was just on SEN with KB.

* Felt he was a midfielder playing forward. Mitch went through how he went to Dimma's place earlier in the season asking that he wanted to play midfield. Dimma said you'll need to go back to Coburg for 6 weeks and work on certain things and Mitch was happy with that. Very happy now to be in the midfield and test yourself against the best mids as will be the case this week against the likes of Hayes and co.

* Don't think we are tiring. We've just gone away from the things we pride ourselves on and are trying new things for next season which of course takes time to get down pat.

* Troy Taylor was on a similar path to Relton Roberts 8-9 weeks ago. Found it living down here difficult. Mitch didn't blame Relts but saw it as a blight on the playing group for not doing more to help. He didn't want that to happen to Troy so Mitch took him under is wing. Mitch convinced Troy to move in with him and has helped Troy get back on track. Sees a bright future in him.Troy's a good kid and hopefully he gets a game in the last couple of weeks.

* A dream to be in Melbourne. Loves the footy culture. Loves going to see other games.

* Hardwick in one word - consistent. We haven't changed our game plan, team rules, philosophies. Even when we were 0-9 he didn't deviate. He said we're going to become a good side and how fast we do that depends on you guys. Mitch remembered about Dimma's first power point on the gameplan.

* Cousins legacy - hard to sum up. Just the way he goes about training. Obviously he couldn't train as hard as he use to but he imparts all that info to the young guys. Changed his personality to be more outgoing since at Richmond to become a leader and teach the young guys.

Shows that you can never make accurate judgments from the outside. Alot of people were saying the reason Mitch was playing for Coburg was because Dimma sent him back there as a punishment-of-sorts to improve his defensive game. Others had his papers stamped.

Turns out it was his choice to learn how to become a midfielder.  :clapping Hope he can use his size, maturity, goal-sense to make a great midfielder who drifts forward. I guess fitness and defense will be his continued focus from here.

Hats off to Morton too for taking Taylor under his wing. Interesting what he said about it being a 'blight on the club' to lose Roberts and more should have been done. Great that Morton can take that sort of initiative and change a kids life.  :thumbsup

Well done Mitch.

Fantastic news that he has taken it upon himself to look after a young cub who was struggling.

I was one that thought he was back at Coburg because he wasn't doing the team things.

Let's hope he keeps pushing himself through the pre-season.

All of a sudden a midfield of Cotchin, Martin, Foley, Edwards, Morton and maybe Gaff/Caddy/Atley, looks quite good.

Fully concur with this. Earlier in the year, before the knobs starting direct quoting from players stuff pages, I would often look at Troys. The distinct impression I got was that he was really struggling being away from friends and family. Bored and lonely were words used quite often.

For Morton to take him under his wing and acknowledge they all have to take some responsibility for Reltons predicament shows a maturity and leadership that not too many outside the club would have picked up on. :clapping

As you say Stripes, its hard to make accurate judgments from the outside.

No i didn't.

Jacko might be working at a slaughterhouse. He can butcher up beef carcasses instead of the sherrin.

Well said Stripes. Top stuff by Mitch to take the initative both with Troy and his own footy career.

This is the second time Mitch has spoken on the radio recently and he's come across as very well spoken and level headed now days.

If Mitch Morton continues to foolow instructions and build his stamina to the required level he very well may become an excellent contributor

Yeah i think he has matured, its good to see.  I had mortons papers stamped as he was in the ressies for so long but if thats been the plan then great.  I also think he is talented enough to make it and I'd keep him.

Good post.
