The Eagles will have to wait until pick four before they enter the draft but they will also get pick 26 as a priority pick.

Cheers wayne. I thought priority picks were after the GC's pick but obviously that was wrong.

They'd be crazy to use them this year, if they wait it will be a much much earlier pick

Question in light of where these compensation picks fall.
I understand that the Clubs (Geelong, Adel, Hawthorn) don't have to use the compo picks this year.
But what happens if they on trade them as part of a deal in trade week. EG RFC trade say Tambling for Adelaide's compo pick for Bock. Would the RFC have to use that pick this year or could they hold it for 2011 giving it the same option that Adelaide originally had with it ???

I'm not 100% sure WP but as I read it those compensation picks retain their "flexible" rights even after being traded to another club.
Compensation picks will be tradeable and can be used by clubs at any time within five years. First round compensation picks cannot be used until the end of the first round in the 2010 and 2011 drafts. Clubs will be required to nominate the year in which they plan to use the compensation pick before the first round of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season in that particular year.

Are the CP numbered?
Like, after West Coast's prioity at what ever number ...
What is the order? And who actually goes first, second etc ect ...
Who decides who goes next?
I understand why Port Adelaide have a pick in R2, but why isn't it after R2? Why is it after there pick in R2?

The compo picks will be numbered when confirmed which club is using their respective compo pick in this draft. A club or even all the clubs with compo picks may decide to hold off using them until 2012 when the draft will no longer be compromised by GC this year and GWS next year. As no one knows yet the compo picks have been left unnumbered but in the positions they will be if they are used in this draft.

Port received a 2nd round compo pick for Krakouer so it'll be placed next to their normal 2nd rounder wherever that is when they finally decide to use it. If all compo picks are used in this draft then it'll be around the #40-41 mark. So they may decide to hold off until 2012 and even if they finish higher up the ladder in 2012 (say 6th) then this compo pick along with their 2012 normal 2nd rounder will be around the #30-31 mark. So in pure draft order terms they'll be better off to hold onto the compo pick than use it now.

This needs a massive update. :rollin
Question: "When do the clubs need to let the AFL when they are using their Compo Picks?"
How do they rank the Comp Picks?
Bock's Compo Pick would have to be 2nd to Ablett?
So would Richmond receive the 2nd pick?
:gotigers

The AFL website will release the new draft order soon.
I think you have to nominate by Nov 5 if you're going to use a compo pick.

Sweet!
Now we wait and see whether the clubs with the Compo Picks take them.
Because after Pick 26, it isn't really a Compo Pick. More like Pick 27.

NORTH Melbourne will use its Gold Coast compensation pick in this year's draft but four other clubs have banked them for the future.
After dealing during trade week Geelong, Richmond, North Melbourne, the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast ended up with compensation selections.
Clubs had until today to decide whether to use the picks in this draft or save them for future seasons, when they could potentially come earlier in the draft order.
Only North Melbourne will activate its pick in this year's national draft on November 18.
North's compensation pick will be selection 27 this year.

So after the GC we are still the team who is delving the deepest into the draft pool :thumbsup Shows were we are at as well though. Interesting to note that other clubs who have seemed further along in development have now realized they need to cut back their list and bring through another wave of young talent. Carlton, Hawthorn, Brisbane and Syndey all are using one less than us with 5.
On the other end of the scale it is interesting to note that Adelaide and West Bulldogs are only using 2 and 3 because of previous trades I assume.
With only 7 clubs choosing to use the PSD, I wonder how many picks each club will use in the Rookie draft?
Thanks for the information OE! :cheers

Interesting that the GC has the first and last pick in the ND (pick 105). IMO they are playing this draft period exceptionally well which bodes well for them in the future but how it affects our premiership window well only time will tell. :-\

It helps when they were allowed to create draft picks out of thin air to ontrade and then draft them back with unlisted players they also got for free. I wonder if all the existing clubs had they been smart enough to be aware of all this would've have been so willing to sign off all these concessions.
