Richmond captain Chris Newman has figured prominently in the nominations for this year’s AFL Player’s Association Most Valuable Player Awards.

The AFLPA MVP Awards, which are to be held on Monday night in Melbourne, are fast becoming one of the most respected and prestigious awards in football.

Newman has been nominated by his fellow Richmond players in both the most valuable player and most courageous player categories.

Joining Newman as nominations from the Tigers are Brett Deledio and Jack Riewoldt in the most valuable player category, while young star Dustin Martin was nominated for the best first-year player award.

The AFLPA MVP Awards are the only awards determined by players themselves.

The winner will be announced on Monday 6 September at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium and will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 from 9.30pm.

...and you'd think that winning an award voted on by your peers would hold more weight than one voted by the the media and professional administrators.  :thumbsup
