Okay we'll leave it open to closer to the end of the month for anyone who hasn't yet joined in (we won't bite ;D ). We'll have a clearer idea of the final draft order and number of picks per club by then as well after all clubs' delistings have been made public. So far we only know Adelaide will use just two picks and Essendon three picks.
-
Some very opinionated posters missing from the Phantom Draft....
From the "expert" comments over the year I'm surprised....
-
The first round of picks is known so what do people think about finalising who has which teams (some posters can volunteer to have two teams) and we get the phantom draft started? The actual draft is only 4 weeks or so away. Which clubs are using the compensation picks will be known on Nov 5 so by the time we get up to the 2nd round of our phantom draft the rest of draft order for the later rounds will be finalised.
Thoughts?
-
I'll take a team if you need another one

It won't be too much of a stretch WP to fill the Bombers with duds. They've done a good job of that themselves lol.

AFL expansion club Gold Coast has recruited David Swallow, the brother of North Melbourne best and fairest winner Andrew Swallow.
More than 12 months ahead of the 2010 draft, Gold Coast has swooped on the West Australian teenager, a hard-running halfback/midfielder who was best and fairest at the AFL's Under-18 championships. Swallow will join the Coast next month and play in the VFL next year.
Coach Guy McKenna said the Gold Coast's guaranteed draft picks next year presented unique circumstances which allowed them to make an offer for Swallow to move a year early.
“David will be able to join our program and have the benefits of an extra 12 months conditioning and playing with his new team before we enter the AFL in 2011,” McKenna said.
“I am lucky to have two years to get ready for my AFL coaching debut and I think David and his family have also recognised the benefits he will receive by entering our program a year early.
“Ultimately it was David's decision.”
Swallow, among a growing number of WA juniors recruited by the Coast, is not one of the eligible 17-year-olds they can recruit for 2010, as his birthday sits outside the six-month window granted to the club.
McKenna ruled out repeating the unusual move with any other 2010 draft candidates.
“Thanks to the West Australian talent pathway he has followed and the work he has done with East Fremantle this year he is well and truly ready to begin his journey to AFL,” he said.
“We are excited to have such a unique opportunity to develop him into a first-class AFL player.”

RICHMOND'S mid-year resurgence and the stuttering of several non-Victorian clubs poses the question of whether the controversy of tanking will come into play before the end of the season.
For obvious reasons, the AFL does not believe tanking exists. Never has, because to accept its existence would be tantamount to saying the competition is corrupt.
But it is wrong to treat it as a dead issue because of the Gold Coast's favourable draft concessions this year.
Poor-performing clubs have no access to a priority selection before the start of this year's national draft as they have in the past, including the blatant efforts of Melbourne last year to get Tom Scully and Carlton in 2007 with Matthew Kreuzer. Melbourne's draw with Collingwood on Monday eliminated it from a priority selection this year as it was the only club in line for help due to successive years of failure. The threshold requirement for a priority pick in that fashion is to finish with 16 points (four wins) or less for two years running. The Demons have 18 premiership points.
Gold Coast receives selections 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15, and the first choice in subsequent rounds. At this stage, before the AFL finalises compensation for losing out-of-contract players to the 17th licence, this season's worst performed clubs will be vying for picks 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12.
Lowly clubs seeking to get better next season will be trying to secure the draft's fourth best player.
Until just over a fortnight ago, it was considered a formality that pick No 4 was the winless Richmond's for the taking.
But with two wins in the past three rounds, and the dismal form of West Coast, Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Brisbane, the wooden spoon now appears wide open.
Where the wooden spoon was once considered an embarrassment, there is no shame any more because it does guarantee the best available live pick in the draft.
In this year's national draft, the difference in quality between picks four and six is "massive" according to a recruiting manager of a Victorian-based club yesterday.
He said the four teenage standouts were West Australians Harley Bennell and David Swallow, who has signed with the Gold Coast, South Australian Sam Day and Victorian Andrew Gaff.
The recruiting manager described Bennell, from WAFL's Peel Thunder and who is set to be snapped up by the Gold Coast, as a "freak show".
"He's (North Melbourne's) Daniel Wells, but better," he said. "Bennell is so good that he could play for Geelong now and play well. He's predominantly a midfielder, but he could play full-forward, ruck and take the kick-ins, and do all positions justice."
At the moment, the bottom club's first two selections are 4 and 27 as the premier's first pick is No 26, followed by the Gold Coast (27) to start the second round.
The wooden spoon is most likely to go to either Richmond, Adelaide or West Coast. The Tigers are on two wins, and the Crows and the Eagles are on three, and trail 13th-placed Melbourne by six points.
First-year Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has no previous track record. We might get a feel for his intentions when he plays Neil Craig's Crows in round 18. West Coast hosts Adelaide in round 15. Craig made his position clear during the is-he-or-isn't-he Tyson Edwards' retirement saga - he's a team player.
The Crows coach revealed his initial decision not to guarantee Edwards a farewell game was based on his principle that selection must be earned at Adelaide.
"I had to make a (later) decision that was best for the club rather than my selection principles that I uphold," he said. "It is a decision on what is best for the Adelaide Football Club."
With John Worsfold's position on a knife's edge at West Coast, any "experimenting" with "list management" - the AFL's description of tanking - might not be in his interest. He said yesterday the Eagles would not run last.
Whatever, sometimes to win in the AFL, you need to lose.

Lazy
Although you did always get your opinions from someone else
-
Alright coksmoker.
Infamy can do gold coast. I'll take port
-
West Coast Pick #4
Jared Polec – West Woodville Torrens / 188cm / 77kg
Exciting player who has plenty of pace and x-factor, Can play inside and out and is very damaging with his disposal. Showed impressive form at SANFL level and is very much underrated on when it comes to the internets. Polec will love the open spaces of subiaco where he can reek havok with his run and carry. A very agile player who has an elite sidestep which he uses to get out of trouble. He needs to develop his right side more (not that it's terrible anyway) but I'm sure those kinks will be ironed out when moving into a full time AFL environment.
-

No need for that
I'm more interested to see who you take for Gold Coast anyway
-
5. Brisbane: select Dyson "Charlie" Heppell. Gippsland Power 187cm and 80kgs.
A Great Kick who spent alot of time on the HBF in the last 12 months but before then was more a midfielder than a flanker. Fantastic leadership and some spectacular games in the TAC Cup. Real good overhead as well. Brisbane are happy to start the rebuild with the selection of Dyson Heppell.
-
i like this draft!
hello Andrew Gaff @ Pick 6 :thumbsup

hello Andrew Gaff @ Pick 6 :thumbsup
You should resign for destroying our recruiting Torch. Aw Sorry Torch just saw its Popelord whose picking our players. Lets wait for him to make the selection before we take cowardly and disgraceful pot shots at his selections. ;D
-
Pick 6 Richmond:
Andrew Gaff.
With Apologise to Sean Atley, Gaff was expected to go @ Pick 4 but has slipped. Richmond need outside mids and Atley is your quintessential outside mid. Not as big as Atley but with Grigg and Houli coming to the club this year size isn't a number 1 priority and Gaff has edged out Atley only just.
Andrew Gaff
Height: 182cm
Weight: 78kg
DOB: 16/06/92
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers (Vic)
Left-footer with a terrific game sense; imposes himself on games and has good pace and endurance combination.
All-Australian team member in the 2010 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, where he averaged 27 disposals at 79 per cent efficiency.
-
pick #7 - Gold Coast - Shaun Atley
for a new team its important to develop the middle. had trouble between caddy & atley. Shaun Atley is a good Wodonga boy. by all account tough, hard and has great leadership... would look great in the yellow and black. solid in both middle / half back.
-
No baseball bat needed this year :lol. I'd be very happy if Gaff slips to our pick although comparisons to a young Judd on BF are a bit premature.
You wouldn't know it was compromised draft if you just based it on the kids available in the top 10.
-
Ge I wanted Atley, the guy could be a superstar but Gaff is the safest bet. Atley has a stronger core but Gaff will cover more ground, the new interchange rule had a big effect.
Atley in burst but Gaff over the journey.
Both will be fantastic players.

I just don't like Polec for some reason.

Isnt Gaff just another HBF :lol
Nup gun mid with a big engine. He'll get the ball out, dish out and then run on to receive back and then use his burst to explode away.
It would've been a great draft to tank for picks 4 and 6 ;) :whistle :outtahere
-
Pick 8 : Essendon:
Dyson Heppell - 187cm 79Kg:
Take 2:
Josh Caddy (Northern Knights, Vic)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB:28/09/92
Powerful player who wins clearances and contested marks and a dangerous forward who attacks the ball aggressively. Won the "clean hands test" at the Draft camp with Heppel with a score of 28/30. Also finished in the top 10 in the 3km time trial. Made the All-Australian U18 All Australian team in 2010
***Draft camp results and other stats from Inside Football Vol40 No36 Issue 1320
-
Pick 8 : Essendon:
Dyson Heppell - 187cm 79Kg:
With so many areas with holes the Bumblings are trying to address one of their biggest weaknesses = mid field by selecting Heppell. Positive results at the Draft camp in the following categories "Clean Hand Test" - scored 28/30 tying with Josh Caddy in first as well as coming third in the "running vertical jump" with a recored jump of 86cm. Won the 2010 Morrish Medal. Is considered to have good leadership qualities. Can also play of the HB Flank

We're not called the Bumbling Bombers for nothing :rollin

I will Make selections and try give a write up tonight when I jar more time
-
I'm looking forward to seeing hiw early Gorriage, Lynch and Darling go. I'm surprized no one has picked up any of these three yet. I'm assuming that every club values the quality of the midfielders well ahead of the KPP's in thsi year talent pool. I think the actually clubs will follow a very similar line at the actual draft this year also.
-
Pic 17 seems a long, long way away. So I won't set my sights too high and aim for any player who's compared on BF to a young Jordan McMahon. ;D

It's more a midfielders draft and apart from GC I think the bottom clubs need mids anyway whereas those clubs with picks in the teens are looking for KPPs (Melb, Carl & Haw) to fill holes in their "structures".
-
I am going with
Pitt
darling
smith
3 mids
will give write up later. Sry for delay
-
Darling is hardly a mid.
-
From what I understand two time all Australia u18 team. You expect he can play a bit. Be in wing or forward
-
12. Melbourne - Lucas Cook (North Ballarat Rebels, 03/03/1992, 196cm, 81kg)
Tempting to go best available tall and grab mobile ruckman Daniel Gorringe at this pick but the Dees already have four ruckmen - Gawn, Spencer, Fitzgerald and Jamar - on their list yet only have Watts as a mid-190s forward hence their reliance on 30-year old Brad Green as their leading goalkicker. So I went for Lucas Cook to partner Watts up forward once he develops for the next decade.
Cook kicked 9 goals in the U18 champs including 4 against Vic Metro at the MCG. He also averaged 14 possies a game so he can get his hands on the footy. He also kicked 26 goals from 11 games in the TAC Cup with a bag of 6 against Bendigo and 3 goals in his one-off VFL game for the North Ballarat Roosters back in May this year. Cook is a good mark and is quick for his size. He also finished top 10 at the draft camp for both the 3km time trial (endurance) and in the kicking assessment. He'll need a couple of years to bulk up but other than that he has all the qualities needed to be a quality key forward in the AFL.
ps. He'll be replacing Brad Miller on the Dees' list with no insurance required :whistle

Update: so far we have.....
Round 1
1. Gold Coast - David Swallow
2. Gold Coast - Sam Day
3. Gold Coast - Harley Bennell
4. West Coast - Jared Polec
5. Brisbane - Dyson Heppell
6. Richmond - Andrew Gaff

9. Gold Coast - Jayden Pitt
10. Gold Coast - Jack Darling
11. Gold Coast - Brodie Smith
12. Melbourne - Lucas Cook
Next up:
13. Gold Coast (BENTLEIGH)
-
Darling is hardly a mid.
That's the question mark on him at 190cm. Is Darling potentially the next Pavlich (who over his career could/can play key forward as well as spend time in the midfield) or is Darling that in-betweener height who can do neither well enough at AFL level?
Interested to hear Bents' view.

Tom lynch

We may need to bring in like last year a 24-hour limit.

Next up is torch..
14. Adelaide (TORCH)
15. Geelong (TIGERMAD20011)
16. Port Adelaide (INFAMY)
-
Not a massive rush to get through the 1st round as it will be best if we know which teams are using their compensation picks before we continue.
-
Player Number: 1905 687 (made up :P)
Cameron Guthrie (19/08/92, 186cm, 79kg) (Calder Cannons)
We have gone with Guthrie. Daniel Gorringe and Kieran Harper were strongly considered. Selected Guthrie who is a strong-minded midfielder who would push into our midfield nicely. Time to blood more kids into our midfield.
"Cameron won our best and fairest and he's the type of kid who will play any position the coach asks him to - that's his talent. At AFL level I see him being playing somewhere between half back and half forward because he's certainly got the discipline and smarts to play a lock down role on players and then he can go forward and kick four goals a quarter which he showed in one of the finals. Just a terrific player and has skills I'd rate in the top 20 in the competition." Calder Cannons Coach Martin Allison
:)
-
Daniel Gorringe
Gorringe was a standout at both the NAB AFL Combine and the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships. At the Combine he showed a remarkable ability to run, kick, mark and handpass. During the championships he managed an unbelievable 105 hitouts, as well as 10 disposals a game and four goals
If this guy get to this pick something has gone wrong.
-
Dammit, with everyone focussing on midfielders and forwards I was hoping Gorringe would slip just one more pick, Port Adelaide would drop their pants and run around the draft room if he slipped through to 16. If we're being honest there is no way he will get passed Gold Coast, Top 10 most likely.
Now this isn't who I'd take next, but is probably the best option for Port Adelaide. I'd even written an entire bio on another player but when looking at their list changed my mind at the last minute as they already have so many players in the 191-199cm range.
Pick 16. Scott Lycett (202cm/97kg)
Other than Gorringe, Lycett is the other ruckman who looks to go early in the 2010 draft. He's the tallest of the top ruckmen in the draft and has a bigger frame than Gorringe too. He's very agile for his size with a good kick & mark plus a quality work ethic. Other than Brogan, Port only have 2 other players on their list at 200cm or above. They took Redden back in 2008 but he hasn't debuted in the AFL yet, so another ruckman looks like what they'd need. They'd like that he's a local SA boy too.
-
Update:
1. Gold Coast - David Swallow
2. Gold Coast - Sam Day
3. Gold Coast - Harley Bennell
4. West Coast - Jared Polec

Next up is tiga
17. North Melbourne (TIGA)
18. Carlton (WAYNE)
19. Hawthorn (MR MAGIC)
-
With Pick 17, North Melbourne would like to select Billie Smedts.
(http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/6563/smedts.jpg) (http://img513.imageshack.us/i/smedts.jpg/)
Height: 189cm
Weight: 76kg
DOB: 08/06/92
Club: Geelong Falcons (Vic)
We are looking for someone with mobility and composure who can run off the back flanks and provide good delivery inside 50.
We believe he will also be versatile enough to move forward as an attacking option when required.
I can't believe this kid made it to 17 but We'll take him with open arms. :thumbsup
-
Pick #18
Carlton - Pat McCarthy
(http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/McCarthyx.jpg)
Glenelg / 194cm / 84kg
I'm going to finally steer Carlton and Wayne Hughes away from taking midfielders and snap up this very promising defender. Good height and should fill out nicely.
Pat is an athletic tall defender who can also go forward. He is a neat disposer of the ball and provides good rebound from defence. He won All-Australian under-18 honours this year, and averaged 17 disposals at 70 per cent efficiency.
Strengths as a footballer - Skills by foot and hand, and decision-making with the ball and reading the play without the ball.
Favourite music - Limp Bizkit, Demis Roussos and Susan Boyle
-
Pick 19 - Ben Jacobs
(http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/Jacobsx.jpg)
Height: 186cm
Weight: 82kg
DOB: 09/01/92
Club: Sandringham Dragons (Vic)
Took the Hawks a millisecond to call out his name.
A penetrating kick and strong mark, this left footed AA utility averaged 29 disposals at 69 per cent efficiency at the recent National Champs, including a 47 possession game for Vic Metro vs SA.
-
Pick #18
Carlton - Pat McCarthy

19. Hawthorn - Ben Jacobs
Next up is sabartooth
20. Fremantle (SABARTOOTH)
21. Sydney (SMOKEY)
22. Western Bulldogs (DANOG)
-
Fremantle choose Seb Tape SA
Backman who is talented with the footy and has the ability to beat his opponent consistently. Tape is 191cm which is just tall enough for a key defender at AFL level however he will give away some height against some talls which could hurt him. However Tape plays composed and looks like a player who will fit into the Dockers system pretty well. Replace Tarrant and may turn out as good as Jamie Tape.
-
With pick #21 the Swans will take Keiran Harper. A classy goal kicking left footer who has pace and a lot of potential. He is tall enough to be dangerous overhead and will complement Jetta very nicely - will make the Swans forward line very hard to match up in the coming years. Under the Swans culture of hard work and team first he can develop into a match winner so they are very happy to get him with this pick.

24. St Kilda (WAYNE)

Pick #22
Western Bulldogs - Mitch Wallis
(http://mm.afl.com.au/portals/0/wallis.jpg)
Calder Cannons / 185cm / 79kg
With our first father-son pick, Western Bulldogs take Mitch Wallis, son of Steve Wallis.
Mitch posesses amazing pace and agility as well as excellent hand-passing skills and a decent kick.
He captained Vic Metro in the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships, where he averaged 28 disposals at 83 per cent efficiency in three matches. He will be an integral part of the new breed of Bulldogs that are coming in.
-
Reece Conca(18, midfielder, Perth WA)
Impressively skilled player from WA, with a strong body and a great ability to win the contested ball. His ability to run and carry and his football smarts were prominent in representing WA at the Under-18 Championships this year. Averaged 18 disposals at 79 per cent efficiency
-
Pick #24
St. Kilda - Jed Lamb
(http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/Lambx.jpg)
Height: 181cm
Weight: 79kg
DOB: 19/10/92
Club: Gippsland Power (Vic)
Clever forward with clean hands overhead and at ground level, and has very good awareness. Super-smart goalkicker in all situations
Strengths as a footballer - Good skills and a good leader on and off the field.
Favourite music - Air Supply, 10cc and Tom Cochrane
-
Selection 25- Brisbane select LUKE PARKER from Dandenong Stingrays 182cm and 83kgs
Strong bodied, good endurance, can play in midfield but also up forward a terrific kick and smart decision maker, tough and hard at the contest, after taking Heppell we are happy to take a 2nd midfield player and set up the Lions midfield for the next few years.
-

Priority Pick
26. West Coast (ELLIOT)
ps. We'll find out today which clubs are using their compensation picks. So far only North have said they are.
-
So are we doing compensation picks or..... and does WCE priority pick come before or after the comp picks?
I think North are the only team at present who has indicated that they will use their compensation pick.
-
Priority Pick
26. West Coast
Luke Mitchell - Calder Cannons / 197cm / 87kg
(http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/images/AFL/AFL%20P-T/mitchu16GF246a.jpg)
Strong contested marking Full Forward/CHF who missed quite a lot of footy this year through a shoulder injury but was very impressive throughout the TAC finals and in the grand final more specifically. Mitchell is not afraid to throw his weight around and is very confident in his movement around the ground with exceptional foot skills and ability below his knees. I think Mitchell plays his best footy closer to goal which would suit the Eagles set up currently with Kennedy playing high in the forward line.
Could go higher this this come draft day but I think this is a good spot for him and I'm happy to grab him here.

Good player, I would have taken him the pick before but has had a shoulder reconstruction and thats why I took parker instead. Nevertheless a good pick.
Will we be doing the compo picks or moving on to the next round where I have the next pick I believe?

Will we be doing the compo picks or moving on to the next round where I have the next pick I believe?
We are wating on confirmation of which clubs will be using their compo picks Ramps
This is due today. We are following the same order as the "real draft" so we need to know the status of the compo picks
At this stage only North are using theirs but that may change

Isaac Smith, North Ballarat 79kg 190cm
(http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/6558/smithisaac.jpg) (http://img2.imageshack.us/i/smithisaac.jpg/)
After only six VFL games, Isaac Played in a VFL Premiership and had an exceptional finals series. at 21 he has the mature body and plenty of pace to make an immediate impact for us and is versatile enough to play forward or back.

Next up is Ramps....
28. Brisbane (RAMPS)
29. West Coast (ELLIOT)
30. Richmond (POPELORD)
31. Essendon (WILLIAM POWELL)
-
Pick 28: Brisbane selects JAMIE CRIPPS from East Fremantle 182cm and 78kgs. Read to play in 2011. Will add to Brisbanes pace off half back. Good pace with Good skills rebounding of half back is how I see him playing in future!
-
Pick 29. West Coast
George Horlin-Smith – Sturt / 186cm / 70kg
(http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2010/07/15/1225892/133199-sturt-v-central.jpg)
After selecting Polec and a very good KPF in Mithcell I think I can go out on a limb and pick this smokey who I've never seen play live before but have only read opinions and seen the highlights footage and I like what I see, Also for some reason WCE managed to trade themselves of of the 3rd round? I'm not sure how they managed that.
GHS is most likely to be one of the youngest people to be drafted in 2010 being extremely bottom age and younger than about 90% of the other kids eligible. George is a very talent cricketer and as such has never taken part in an AFL preseason so their is plenty of upside here to be had.
GHS is a dual sided medium midfielder who makes very good decisions and creates by hand and foot with great vision to spot up the write option. He is not strong athletically which has been mentioned after viewing his combine results but he always seems to be one step ahead of the play. He's quite strong over head for a mid and a goal kicker too. I expect the Lions to pick up GHS before Richmonds 2nd pick because I think this type of player has Francis jackson written all over him. One to watch come draft day for sure.
-
Richmond
Players considered:
Was going to pick Dion Prestia, or Mitchell Hallahan. I'm also keen on Patrick Karnezis, I'm hoping he slips adding depth to our mid sized forwards after Troy Taylor's absence and possible retirement.
In the end we went with our direction of stocking up on midfielders that can play outside.
Pick 30: Josh Green (TAS)
http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/green_josh.jpg
Green is a midfielder who can play inside or outside with great pace, stoppage work and goal sense with the makings of a quality midfielder.
Listed at 181cm and 78kgs is a little bit short for my liking but has slipped at 30.
Had a good start to the Under 18 Championships against Queensland with 35 touches and two goals, including one great set-shot along the boundary when the pressure was on.
-
Essendon: Pick 31:
Matthew Watson - Calder Cannons
DOB 16/7/92
Ht: 195cm
Wt: 98Kg
A tall defender who can also play forward (kicked 5 goals in a final from the HFF). Can kick the ball 60 metres with alot of accuracy. Reads the play well and knows how and when to zone off. With his size many believe he is ready to play senior AFL in 2011
-
Pick 32 Brisbane: Max Otten Oakleigh Charges- 193cm and 86kgs. Good left shoe with good awareness. Has a good size and at 193cm and 86kgs is ready to play AFL footy for Brisbane. Brisbane also needed to take someone taller here after taking mids earlier.
-
33. Melbourne - Viv Michie (Vic Metro/Oakleigh Chargers, 23/02/1992, 186cm, 78kg)
After picking up a tall with their first pick, the Dees have going with a midsize (186cm) midfielder/forward given the loss of (185cm+) McDonald and Bruce. Michie is an excellent kick and quick as well as a good overhead mark for his size. He can play midfield and push forward to kick goals as demonstrated averaging 16 possies and 2 goals per game in the U18 champs. He also averaged 17 possies and roughly a goal in the TAC Cup this year. I would call him a natural footballer in that he more often than not does the right things showing a natural understanding of the game. The main knock on Michie which he admits himself is he needs to work on the defensive side of his game and boosting his endurance to become a full-time midfielder but given the many pluses to his game in winning and executing well with the footy he is a worth a pick in the 30s. He'd be a good addition to the strong young group of mids Melbourne are putting together.

How we going here Tigermad?
-
Josh Walker
Tall forward with incredible endurance and a fantastic kicking style. He was truly excellent for Vic Metro in the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships, where he averaged 12 disposals and five marks a game. He also kicked three goals and gave away another three score assists.

Hawthorn pick 38 - Mitch Hallahan (Dandenong Stingrays)
Height: 184cm
Weight: 81kg
DOB: 23/08/92
Tough inside mid with decent skills.
-
39. Myles sewell
-
40 - Anton Hamp
Sydney are looking to the future by taking a tall forward who can play back as well. Daniel Bradshaw has only a couple of years left in him and at 191cm and 80km, Anton will be given time to develop into a 2nd forward option with Jesse White. He is also someone who can help out Heath Grundy and Ted Richards in defence as well. He is quick with good hands and is a good kick for goal.
-
41 - Tom Liberatore
(http://mm.afl.com.au/portals/0/liberatore.jpg)
With their 2nd round pick, Western Bulldogs select the son of Tony Liberatore. Tom has similar agility and a gritty strength that makes him hard to tackle. He averaged 24 disposals with the Calder Cannons, with five clearances and four tackles. He was All-Australian in 2010.

#42 Carlton
Ben Newton
South Fremantle / 182cm / 78kg
Not afraid to run and carry and his left foot is a weapon. Gets great penetration with it so becomes one of those 70m players which are incredibly important in breaking down zones in the modern game.
#43 St Kilda
Daniel Farmer
Sandringham / 187cm / 80kg
He is an exceptional user of the footy, has a very penetrating boot, is a good contested mark and seems to have very good core strength meaning he should win more one on ones than he loses and has pace.
-
Selection # 44 (FREMANTLE)
Ben Brown – Devonport / 197cm / 84kg
Profile : Not in a dissimilar position to Chris Dawes 3-4 years ago. Had an injury that meant his first AFL year was going to be very limited in output but a club took the view he was a good long term prospect. Brown his knee vs NT at Champs but was already a hot prospect having kicked 5 goals vs QLD a week or so earlier. Nephew of Jimmy Manson and like uncle moves between KPF / Ruck. Has strong hands, good agility (outstanding basketballer) and a clean pair of hands below his knees so offers a heap to prospective clubs as a KPF and Ruck. Problem is he is very skinny and that is what makes me thinks he is later than sooner in the pecking order.
Similar to: Kurt Tippett insomuch as a tall ruck / fwd type.
Draft Range: 50 - Rookie
Why Fremantle: Think they would prefer a local kid but Brown is the best tall left and has huge upside. Dawes recovered and look what he has done. 8)

Pick 45: C'Wood
Andrew McInnes - Dandenong Stringrays
DOB: 20/3/92
Ht: 189cm
Wt: 83Kgs
Vic Country Rep 2010 - played CHB in the TAC cup this year and is considered an unobtrusive defender who gets the job done. Great preparer, hard worker and competitor
Pick 46: C'Wood
Alex Johnson - Oakleigh Charges
DOB: 2/3/92
Ht: 195cm
Wt: 82Kgs
Captain of the Charges in 2010 & Vic Metro representative. Consdiered a forward played played as a backman a the natianl championships. His TAC cup coach rates him as one of the best defensive forward agoing around. Clearly needs to bulk up but has a great aerobic capicity

-
Richmond Pick 47:
Jamie Solly
Undersized Key Forward/Ideally a 3rd Forward or Flanker
Height: 190cm
Weight: 90kgs
Perfect replacement for Troy Taylor if so. Fabulous set of hands and is one of the few elite kicks for goal in the Championships with a return of 11.1, including a 6 goal haul against Northern Territory.
His worth is in his aerial work and shot for goal but also his work rate up the field and ability to hit targets easily inside 50.
In 2009 - a bottom age he scored 22 goals in 11 games for Port in the U/18s.
This year 2010, he only played 2 games for Port but managed 8 goals in those 2 games. Reasons unknown? Maybe injured? School?
Likened type to Nathan Fyfe. Will not last to 47 in Thursdays Draft. Can play.
-
Pick 48 - Essendon:
Jake Batchelor- Dandenong Stringrays
DOB: 13/2/92
Ht: 187cm
Wt: 82Kgs
B&F winner at the Stringrays in 2010. Played mainly as a rebounding defender. Good hands, reads the play extremely well and is considered a terrific player one on one.

Lets do some analysis on how our draft compared to the real one.
Conca went at 23 to the Cats
Atley made top 10 as Conca wasn't picked in our top 10
I snapped up Isaac Smith in round 2 (27) whereas he went to the Hawks in Round 1 (19)
Jack Darling Making top 10 in ours but ending up going as a round 2 Priority pic at 26 to the Eagles.
The biggest mover was Dion Prestia going at 34 in ours and ending up top 10 (9) in the real draft. A top value pickup for Wayne there.
Any other surprises?
