I've never heard anyone in all these years dispute Rioli winning the Norm Smith in the 1982 GF despite being in the losing side. However this topic came up on SEN just before when they were talking about bad footy moments you never got over. I won't say which former coach agreed and said Wayne Johnston should have won the medal instead as the topic will become more about him than the topic.

As much as it is fun to bag Tony Shaw for his commentary it wasn't him as he's on 3aw. It was an ex-Tiger coach on SEN :wallywink

Maurice was brilliant on GF day. Got us back into the game after Carlton jumped us early. Sadly Tempany going down unbalanced our defence on the back of Malthouse missing the game injured along with one bad quarter where we kicked 6 behinds meant we lost :(.

Maurice Rioli was a class above all others on the field. More than deserved his Norm Smith. Don't forget Brian Taylor was sitting in the stands (healthy). I still think about that loss. I hate Carlton and HELEN D'AMICO.

Recently I watched the 1982 grand final for the fist time since that day and Carlton already had the ascendency before she made her streak.

Maurice makes Liam Jurrah look pedestrian.
One of the best most entertaining players of his generation.
Unlike TW who does not belong in the AFL industry in any capacity (unless there is a poo kickers job vacant in AFL house)

Wallace wasn't playing ans was probably on the end of season trip to Bairnsdale at the time and would have watched it live then or since !!!!
