RICHMOND may have accidentally revealed its draft hand with a profile of young WA gun Reece Conca appearing briefly today on the Tigers' website.
The Tigers say the appearance of Conca's profile this morning was a fluke and does not guarantee the West Australian under-18 vice-captain will be heading to Punt Rd.
But Conca has been strongly linked to Richmond's No.6 selection, and has been tipped to go there by Herald Sun draft expert Jay Clark in his phantom draft.
A strong-bodied midfielder, Conca has shot up the draft order in recent days.
The website sportal.com.au reports the Tigers website displayed key stats and background information.
Under the heading "What the RFC recruiters say" was the following glowing description:
"The club is extremely excited to have Reece at the club and feel he will add to our ever growing band of quality midfielders as well as having significant impact on the group off the field with his strong leadership qualities."
But Tigers media manager Adrian Ceddia told sportal pages were created for all the top draft candidates and Conca's page wasn't published by the club.

There's always a justification, a don't blame us it wasn't our fault. rubbish Ceddia get your stuffing shoddy act together this is the second time in as many months that the media has published information about our club before the fact. The first was the best and fairest and now potentially this. Phillip Anderson come on down. Get professional Richmond, as you can probably tell i'm really peeed.

Well I'm going to look like a complete tool if they do, but I don't mind that if it proves the leak wasn't a leak to begin with. but i think it is. Or MAYBE AT THE VERY LEAST ITS STRAIGHT OUT INCOMPETENCE.

someone may lose there job today :o

From my experience with contact management systems, it most probably is a simple mistake. One person has hit the wrong button. If you feel that is inexcusable, fine, but it most probably really only comes down to one person, not the entire club.

Al it starts with management, this is the SECOND time it has occured. You never ever get reasonable with incompetence. When it happens once, you get the person corrected or change your op basis so that the situation doesn't happen again, it doesn't have to be heavy and shouldn't be but some correction needs to take place or some internal policy adjustment needs to be made so that external media releases are handled with security.
Yes one person more than likely stuffed up, but management does have a responsibility for the effectiveness and professionalism of the staff under its care otherwise that management is negligent.

from my experience, some people have little idea, leave it at that
-
The club needs to definetly revisit its policy in regards to its process of releasing press releases to the media.
-
Hey get off Kane Johnson's back; he is still learning the caper!
-
Is the club trying to claim that Conca page was hacked? Sure it wasn't officially published but it was still publicly accessible (and the url with his name still is) so to say it wasn't published by the club is laughable. The IT guy has admitted he's done 20 names. If he's using Unix/Linux he obviously hasn't heard of the basic command 'chmod' ::). Not the first time either the public have been able to access info on the RFC site before its release date.

Which means our entire draft is potentially compromised.
-
That RFC stooge over on PRE (and how come we dont have one?) is saying it wasnt the club's fault; it was the HUN's fault. Sounds like we have ourselves another oswald.

Given the eveness of the draft it won't surprise me if most of those names don't end up at Punt Rd.
As for Conca there's word going around that with the top 10 being counted down backwards the AFL wanted to know the order beforehand so they could fly up the top kids to the Gold Coast so they were present when their names are called out and presented on stage.

Is there any chance this was a deliberate act?

No way. We only got one fair dinkum pick and that's 6. all those others will be gone for sure by the time we have pick 37 or whatever it is.

I don't believe so al. More like stupidity by the IT guy posting files as publicly accessible rather than private :P.

Can't be compromised RRJ. The only pick we can know with any degree of certainty is our earliest pick and only then because it is quite high. The rest are in the hands of fate, hence the 20 names. Although I will agree that it screams we are taking Conca with our first pick unless someone does a 'Roughead'.

Explain to me how the stuff both news papers knew who we were going to draft at #6 this morning?
-
Explain to me how the eff both news papers knew who we were going to draft at #6 this morning?
Because they saw a page on our website that shouldn't have been published and they most likely heard that the AFL had to get Conca to the GC after they hadn't bothered to invite him. Doesn't mean our whole draft was compromised, just that they had proof of what most of the football world knew and in all fairness they knew that about the top 6 picks anyway, not just ours. Big deal. I'm more interested in how good our draft picks are going to be, not who knew before who.

thats true the part about how good our picks turn out to be but smokey this is a thread about why our club leaks like that.
Seriously its pretty pathetic and the club can sugar coact it as much as they want but everyone knew about it this morning.
-
the guy should be sacked imho.
-
:banghead
-
What makes it even worse is that even now after the draft has finished there are still only 3 profiles up on the Richmond website
What is the point of uploading them in advance if you aren't going to make them go live as soon as they are selected?
Should be hung drawn and quartered out on Punt Road Oval
-
It's disappointing and reflects poorly on the club. Having said that, it's no big deal but just seems like just a basic and avoidable cock up
-
Disappointing and has been hapenning for years at our footy club. :help
-
This is ridiculous could cost us very, very dearly one day. Must stop. Somebody has to be accountable for these types of mistakes. It makes me so mad :banghead.
-
Dont get me started about the RFC the Titantic ::)

Why are Richmond "supporters" on a footy forum having a go at the club for leaking like a sieve when everytime something happens around the club or players, SOMEONE FROM A FOOTY FORUM SPILLS THE BEANS?
Take some responsibility yourselves and stop blaming the club for your own issues.
Have a close look and see if that really is you in the mirror.

the conca to richmond rumour was not leaked by the tigers but by the afls shifter sheehan, conca had to be at the gold coast to be handed his jumper in the 10-1 countdown, liuckily for us it was too late for the other clubs to change their priorities

So Blaisee are you saying that this could have been a deliberate move by the club to keep him under wraps or to at least keep those after us guessing as to who we were really going to pick? If so, a masterstroke indeed. Anything that Effs the bombers up in my book is a good thing! :thumbsup

FJ decided early in the year conca was going to be our no1 pick.
6 months later, a couple of the days before the draft his name is associated with Richmond, around the time it leaked that Brisbane were going to take polec, who most believed that we were going to take ( This probably got people digging a bit deeper into who we were after)
On the day of the draft an IT stuffup allowed an article about him to be posted on the RFC website, which was one of many pages pre prepared for quick publishing,This was after the rumour ( subsequently proven to be true) got around that conca had to be flown to the gold coast for the draft thus indicating he was to be top 10 )
That's a long time to wait for your peas to strain.

Jackson has put a lot of faith in this kid and possibly his reputation also. With more fancied types going to clubs after us, FJ has a lot to lose on this one. In saying that, after viewing all of Reece's footage so far, I think he is on a good thing, especially if Heppell does become crippled by his rumored weak groin.

I agree I think he has well and truly put his reputation on the table. Considering some of our more fancied and publicised stuff ups in the past you would be sorely tempted in his position to go with the safe and maybe popular option.
However on the other hand full marks to FJ for obviously selecting talent that he believes will be the best and not bowing to public perception of who should be taken.

Similar to collingwood rating Thomas a lot higher than most/all other clubs when they drafted him at 2 or 3(cant remember), in hindsight they are vindicated in their selection as he's matured into a quality big game player who will only get better
-
if this pick buggers up, then his ass may be out to dry, but that's the nature of the game.
As some people have said, I admire him for sticking to his guns and not bowing to popular sentiment.
I reckon it will work out for us.
-
I've a strong suspicion that other draftees will turn out to be better footballers. The question is though which ones?
I'm sure someone described Conca as very good in all aspects, but excelling in none.
In some sense, he may very well be the safe pick as his likleyhood of actually making the grade is probably better than many, even if he is likely to be a good honest footballer rather than an out and out superstar

I can hear what you are saying. But is this just a reflection of the modern world we live in. Where it is harder to hide all sides of the story. Question - Is spilling the beans a bad thing? Maybe Hollywood was right some people just cant handle the truth.
