Ch 10 sports reporter said life is pretty good for Newy at the minute - captain of one of the biggest clubs leading a young and upcoming list plus he's getting married.

* Newy said it doesn't surprise him that he's played the most games in the AFL without any of them being finals as we haven't had much success. He was here in 2001 but it was his first year so he didn't play any finals games.

* You're always watching the finals. Envious of players out there. He's aspiring to be out there on GF day with the MCG full of Tiger supporters.

* Club is in the best shape ever in his time. Has total belief in those running the club and the direction we are heading. We shouldn't have to wait much longer (for success).

You can sense Newie's passion for the club and the job.
After a tough first year he's really settled in well. :thumbsup

Newy, Tucky and Lids are the top 3 in terms of most games without finals. In fact 11 of the top 18 are either current or ex-Tigers still playing at other clubs  :P.

Most Games - No Finals

Newy      175
Tuck       130
Deledio    128
Tambling  108
Fisher       99
Ryder       94
Foley        88
Schulz      87
Bradley     85
Moore       84
Jackson     83
Bartram     80
T.Selwood  75
O'hAilpin     72
White        70
McGuane    70
Dunn         70
Edwards     69

Trevor Barker holds the all-time record with 230 games and no finals. Jeff Hogg played 184 but 24 of those were with Fitzroy so Newy is the highest Tiger  :(.

Another alarming statistic is that Newy has only been involved in 56 victories.Thats a winning ratio of only 32%.

It could be worse....Poor old Trevor Barkers winning record was only 26 %.

It only takes one final to fix those numbers although I think we'll be waiting another couple of years before it happens.

Heading into 1995 we had a few Tiges in the same boat as now playing a large number games before playing a final:
Knighter  129
Freezer   127
M.Gale    122
Brodders 115
Naish       84
Turner     77
Campbell  73
Maxfield   67

Richo, Daffy, Rogers, Duncan Kellaway had played 20s/30s games.

Statistics like that really paint a sad picture of how inept we have been over the course of three decades.
Whether its recruiting players who aren't up to scratch, poor coaches or coaches with guns to their heads from
overbearing and demanding boardrooms and off field supporter groups.

That's a real nucleus of players assembled there in 1995 that was lost to footy's black hole of underformance
on and off the field.

I think at least now the off field seems to be more stable than it was in that era considering we have a similar group of players who have played their fare share of footy for virtually no success.
