Following on from the round 1 thread. If Richmond we to have a intranet club match using the oldest 22 players on the list vs the rest who wound win?
-
Thats a tough one but I would have to think the youth might get up.
What am I talking about, I have no idea how this would go. You would think the youth might be a bit quick and talented in the midfield for them but the mature would push them around a bit. Much prefer the youths foward line but the mature backline much stronger.
Would love to see, this and might be a good idea for a practice match. Put it to them Bentleigh

Reckon we're in trouble then. A fair percentage of the mature team are the core of our best 22 for quite a few years to come. Given their extra experience then I would hope the thrash our youth team. Pump some more games into the youth team and the story may be different, but by the time that happens quite a number of them will have graduated to the mature team.

The older team would beat the younger team at the moment. The damage would be done at all areas of the ground. Jack would be the only matchup that would trouble the mature team.
In terms of potential I think the younger team has it all over the older players but around the contest players the older team has just too many players who can win the ball such as Tuck, Foley, Deledio, Jackson, Houli, Grigg and even Newman. Martin, Cotchin and maybe Contin at a stretch could certainly compete with them for a time but genuine contested ball winners fall away quickly after these three.
Down back the younger team is too slight and would struggle against Derickx and Miller even though I would classify them as good forwards. Similarly the experience and sheer size of the older backmen would likely give all our young forwards trouble besides Jack. Lids, Connors and Newman would provide far too much flow out of the backline too for the young fellows.
In the ruck too Gus and Derickx would violate Browne and Vickery.
It's a good argument to have really, just shows why we are still a bottom 8 team. Size and experience are typically more important in the length of a season than raw talent and enthusiasm.

I agree with Oiafi but what's funny is that our 'mature' side would be the 'young' side at many other clubs! :o

Yep they would, under Wallace we used to be a bottom team bully. We could handle the weaker teams easily because we had an edge in size and experience. When we came up against teams that also had that experience but had a lot more talent, we were smashed.
So i'm not saying that the mature team have more talent, but a McGuane would easily cope with a 5 game Griffiths, Newman would destroy MacDonald and Jackson wouldn't let Conca get a touch.

Tigers to win. :rollin

for where we are at you would hope about 14 of the youth are regulars anyway.
as has been stated adnauseum. the kids are not the problem at richmond. no the so called mature players remain the problem.
i like to think we have delisted terrible players and in the main have to many ordinary players who happen to be the older types.
the next stage is getting rid of the many ordinary types and replacing them with bona fide solid citizens.
