Next up is Vickery. Ty is entering his third year of AFL with 23 games under his belt. Hardwick plans to use him mainly up forward this year alongside Jack Riewoldt.
What are your expectations for Vickery in 2011 and what would be a good season for him?

to be a good foil for jack. vickery should aim for 1 goal a game average as a minimum = 22 goals for the season. hopefully he can be of assistance in the ruck from time to time. hopefully we can see him be a bit more aggressive and start to throw some of his weight around.

All 22 games and 30 big ones.

seems the bar ius set very low for kpfs nowdays. i wonder why that is. bloody hell play miller then id expect a goal a game out of him and he would at least provide a big body.
geez most bagged jack in yr 3 and he kicked i think 35 goals yep the bar has been lowered. i suppose we have to accomodate our non performers some how.

I don't think so.

Vickery, if he continues to have 2.6 kicks a game, he will finish the year off at Coburg.
8 disposals a game, no wonder we battle to win games :banghead
Some people are very easily pleased.
-
and some are hard to please.
:cheers

True Jacko, but by the same token, some people are never pleased.

i want to see us be successful and make finals each year.
Hard decisions need to be made at years end.
We held on to Patto in hope, If Vickery doesnt improve greatly, gone at end of year
2 kicks a game doesnt cut it with me, sorry

Harsh but true, the kicks are one thing attacking the contest through hard leading, 2nd and 3rd efforts etc are another. He can just get away with a low possie count but needs to do more of the team things.

Absolute rubbish
You don't cut a Top 10 ruckman selection after 3 years in the system
Even Patto got 5 years at Richmond and 1 at StKilda
-
I believe you can only really start to compare young players when they at a sufficent size to compete in the position they will play. In my opinion, this is why KPP need more time because their skills, speed and ability is nullified by opponents with experience and, especially, greater strength and size. Young rucks are at an even greater disadvantage as their role at stoppages is predominately about wrestling and positioning which relies heavily on size and strength. If a young ruckmans role is more ruck rover such as what Kruezer has had the luxury to play, then size becomes less into the equation.
I think it is a good strategy for Vickery to move into the forwardline. Here he can use his height, skills, speeds and ability much more. While he will still be found out against bigger opponents in wrestling duels or even at ground level in congestion, this will assist in his development and also help the team with a bigger target while players such as Griffiths and Post are injuries/learning themselves.
So this is why we give taller players more latitude and time to development than others - its like the GWS boys playing AFL players: it doesn't matter how much skill/talent/ability you have, if you can't physically get your hands on the ball you can't compete.

Told you all after 1 year he wasnt any good.( patto )
Tell you all something, footy aint basketball, if you cant win a ball in dispute,go and play marbles.
Signs arent good for Vickery

all these excuses bascially somes up where we are
-
Not much
-
I have great expectations for Vickery this year. Full forward and second ruck. He's fast agile and young. I think this year will be a break out year for him.
-

Yes you're probably correct here Jack but the reality remains that you can only judge like for like and until Vickery has the body and experience to compete with other teams rucks we won't know where he sits in the scheme of things. You must admit that what he has shown up forward in the last few NAB Challenge games have been promising....can't you :pray
-
Credit where its due.- 5 goals fair effort
Although seen some poor efforts behind play the other week where he didnt want to get involved that made me think nothing has changed
Gus likewise
We shall see after the first 5 rounds we they all sit
-
Mine is more hope than expectation. I hope the Vickery goes past Graham because I have no faith in Gus making it and until one of our ruckmen stand up and give our mids a fighting chance then we are going to see a lot of wasted opportunity and hidings.

6 kicks 4 handballs last night, break out game
2 of those kicks were free kicks ::)
-
my expectation is that he won't be here this time next year.

your kidding yourself arent you. I think your dizzy my friend get off the disco biscuits
He didn't get much of it but he is moving a lot better than previous years. He is on the rise.
-
will need a little blue tablet to be on a rise.
Had as much impact as a mush mellow last night
he wont be there next year if he produces consistent efforts like last night, thats consistently being ordinary

If a player kicks 6 goals in a game but 2 came from free kicks would you be upset?
You can't blame him for getting 2 frees from the umps. To me in that instance it shows where he needed to be.

i'm not kidding. far too many basic mistakes (eg. dropping marks) for my liking. we're better off giving Derickx a try.

Correct.
drops too many marks , too many mistakes
Only impact he has had is in a practise game
Dizza, I am glad you watch the games
-
will also say he didnt have much to beat last night, and he still got beaten.
Ideal opportunity to show something last night, but like most his previous games, gave little,
-
When Griffiths is right to go, Vickery back at Coburg
-
When Griffiths is right to go, Vickery back at Coburg
you need a 2nd ruckman, also
Griffiths won't be risked.

Post has been earmarked for that role ;)

I liked his game last night, it wasnt great but it wasnt bad.
Put his body on the line often and shepperded Jacko so he could take a mark and goal.
-
Vickery is coming along ahead of expectations.
Will make it
-
He will be fine, lets find another whipping boy that has been in the systen for a while and actually deserves it....one does spring to mind.. :lol :rollin
-
Vickery will be our main ruckman in 5 years time.
Ruck: Vickery
HF: Taylor Griffiths Morton
FF: Post Riewoldt Small Forward
With Post and Vickery swapping ala Leigh Brown and Jolly.
There are still doubts and holes but it's improving lot better.
