I'll post this first one given a fair few members didn't receive it due to a glitch with the Club's emailing list and as an example of the many exclusive benefits you get as a Richmond footy club member for anyone reading this who is considering joining or rejoining up :thumbsup.

Dear OE,
I have had mixed feelings in the wash-up of last Thursday night's season-opener against Carlton at the MCG . . .
There's been no hiding my disappointment that we lost a game I felt we'd put ourselves in a position to win.
Sure, the Blues had plenty of chances to put us away early, with the number of inside-50 entries and scoring shots they had. But the fact is they didn't, and we were still hanging in there at half-time.
Then, in the third quarter, we produced some really good football, to well and truly seize the initiative from Carlton.
When Jack Riewoldt kicked that goal right on three-quarter time, to increase our lead to 14 points, I felt we had the necessary momentum to go on and win the match. In the last quarter, however, we ran out of legs, and the more experienced Carlton side rallied to get over the line.
I was especially disappointed that we fought our backsides off to hit the front, only to fade in the final term, and I understand how frustrated you must have been watching the match finish the way it did.
But I certainly couldn't question the competitive spirit of the players on the night, and I'm sure that's something that would have pleased our members.
Look, there were some promising signs that we took out of the game, but we've still got a fair way to go. I rate Carlton as a top-six to top-four side, so at least we showed we're capable of matching it with the big boys of the competition, when we get our game up and running.
I thought the young blokes who made their AFL debuts with us Reece Conca, Jake Batchelor and Brad Helbig all showed something. And, our recruits from league clubs Shaun Grigg and Bachar Houli were also quite impressive in their first games for the Tigers.
Shaun was relatively consistent throughout the night, while Bachar got a lot better after quarter-time. They both showed that they're going to be real assets for us. They're only going to get better as they play more with their new teammates, and they're going to help ease the load through our midfield.
I really liked the game of Robbie Nahas. He showed his capabilities as a player with that performance, and has now set himself a standard that he needs to live up to.
Robbie was very disappointed with his 2010 season and worked extremely hard over the pre-season to make amends in 2011. It's early days yet, of course, but he looked really lively in the midfield. Yes, he made some mistakes, but that's because he was prepared to take the game on, which is something we encourage him to do.
Another big plus for us, from an individual perspective, was the fine first-up display of Jack Riewoldt . . .
Jack looks in good shape. He took a couple of really strong marks, kicked six goals, and could even have finished with another couple.
Unfortunately, we didn't get the ball enough inside-50, but when it got down there, Jack certainly looked dangerous.
Mind you, we still have the same problem of needing to find more avenues to goal . . . Mitch Morton was okay at stages up forward, as was Ty Vickery. We've also got some players coming back from injury, who we feel can fill the role for us in attack, but we've just got to remain patient for the time being . . .
Clearly, St Kilda at the MCG this Friday night represents another huge test for us, but one I can guarantee you that we're all looking forward to.
Nathan Foley has recovered from his bout of gastro, so that will provide our midfield with a decent boost and, a few of our players, who were a bit underdone, will benefit from the opening round hit-out.
Even though it's a St Kilda home fixture, Richmond members will gain access with their membership tickets, as this is one of the two replacement home games for the season (due to the Club playing home games in Darwin and Cairns in 2011).
That being the case, we would love to see any St Kilda home-ground advantage negated by a strong Yellow and Black turn-out.
Yours sincerely,
Damien Hardwick

Dear OE,
Our inconsistency as a young team has never been more evident, than in last Friday night's clash with Collingwood at the MCG. In quarters one and four, the Magpies outscored us by a combined total of 85 points (17.11 to 4.4). Yet, in the second and third terms, we managed to outscore them by a total of 14 points (9.8 to 7.6)

DIRECT FROM DIMMA
-----------------
Dear OE,
In the lead-up to last Sunday's clash with North Melbourne, it was interesting to hear a lot of people saying it was a season-defining game for both sides. As far as we're concerned, every game is a season-defining one, so this was no different.
It was a really tight game and the Kangaroos, with their contested ball work, were tough nuts to crack. But I thought our spread from the stoppages was very good, and that enabled us to kick those seven goals in the last quarter to get over the line.

DIRECT FROM DIMMA
-----------------
Dear OE,
A couple of our main problem areas this season combined to contribute to our Round 8 loss against the Western Bulldogs.
Once more, we allowed the opposition to get the jump on us, with the Bulldogs setting up their win by scoring seven goals to our one in the first quarter.
We've lost seven of eight opening terms this season and drawn one, which clearly is a concern, and it's something we'll again be addressing during the course of the week.

Every win our team can get is important in terms of building belief within such a young, inexperienced playing group. Dear OE,
We were bitterly disappointed with our effort against Port Adelaide in Darwin last Saturday night.
I just didn't think we were anywhere near hard enough in our endeavours to hunt the football throughout the game. We fumbled all night, over-handled the ball, and didn't use it
well at all. It was uncharacteristic of our guys and a real letdown after the way we had been playing . . .

Dear OE,
Last Sunday's match against the Sydney Swans at the SCG was another opportunity we let slip.
We certainly had our chances to win, but, come the crunch, the Swans' cream rose to the top, with their key players in Adam Goodes and Ryan O'Keefe responding, and they were able to rally against the flow to secure the victory.
Look, we played well in patches, but there were other stages of the game where the Swans dominated in certain areas and threatened to run away with it.

It's a no-win situtation. If Dimma is critical about aspects of the game then the media will jump all over it and it'll be in the papers the next day; if he says things we already knew about the game or is positive then it's classed as spin. The same goes for those live-chats on the RFC site.

To be honest i dont know why he bothers.
darwin is a prime example. The email was just pure spin about the fact we didnt come to play etc etc but behind closed doors Dimma would've been seething at a lost opportunity at our pathetic preparation to train during the day.
He will never fully tell us the members what he really thinks so why bother spinning it up i say.

The fact that he writes "Look," in his emails tells me that either:
a: He is taking the warm yellow
or
b: Someone else is writng them and trying to sound like him
-
..or someone is taking taking dictation, as he uses that expression a lot when he speaks.

Dimma's latest email about the win over the Lions...
DIRECT FROM DIMMA
----------------------------
Dear OE,
We always knew we'd be in for a tough game against Brisbane at the Gabba last Saturday night.
After a couple of disappointing weeks, the Lions set themselves for this match and it was reflected in the way they started. They smashed us early in contested ball and inside-50 entries, which at one stage were 10-3 in their favor. There were a number of very heavy physical clashes and players were coming on and off the field at a pretty rapid rate.
Our players, once again, showed good character to work back into the contest after yet another bad start, but we couldn't quite get the desired result on the scoreboard from the number of shots we had. Accurate conversion has been a real strength of ours this season, but it deserted us a fair bit on Saturday night.

Dear OE,
It was another missed opportunity for us against Essendon on Saturday night.
We went into the game looking for a vastly improved effort from the disappointment of the Carlton game, and I thought for two and a half quarters we had the game on our terms.
The coaches were really happy with the team's ball movement, and our midfielders were getting forward and kicking goals. Once again, we showed what we can do against quality opposition when we stick to the game plan.

Dear OE,
Obviously, it was a very disappointing performance against Gold Coast at Cairns last Saturday and we were all feeling pretty flat straight after the match. Going back over vision from the game just emphasised the amount of times that we didn't play according to our structure, and went away from what we set out to do.
After scoring 6.8 with the wind in the first quarter, we went in with a clear plan for kicking into it in the second term. But with the first two phases of play in our defensive-50 area, we did exactly the opposite of what we were planning, and that resulted in Gold Coast's opening two goals
of the quarter.
That was a particularly disappointing aspect of the game for us, but from a coaching perspective, it's a key area we can focus on to improve....

Dimma's email about the Geelong loss...
DIRECT FROM DIMMA
----------------------------
Dear OE,
It's hard enough giving any side in the competition a fair start and hoping to haul them in, let alone such an experienced, powerful combination as Geelong. Unfortunately, we produced a really disappointing first half against the Cats at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, managing just one goal to their 11.
They put us to the sword in the second term, scoring seven goals to our nil, but even at quarter-time, although we trailed by only 18 points, I think we'd had 13 or 14 less inside-50 entries to that stage. So, 10 goals down at half-time, that's basically game over, but our players, to their credit, showed admirable resolve in the second half to match it with their highly-rated opponents.
...

Let's hope they are not pinning hope on the 2nd half as a genuine positive. Geelong took the feet off the pedal in the second half, particularly the last qtr, due to their training load and loss of interest. Don't gloss over the first half Dimma, as that is the true difference between the sides.
-
Seemed very robotic this email.
The others atleast had some type of individuality. I could predict exactly what I was reading.
- Bad start,
- game over at half time,
-great resolve and competitive spirit to no let it be a blow out (Which I think is a cop out. Geelong took there foot off the gas and let us play on level terms.. Do this when the opposition is hunting us.. not focusing on next week)
I like Dimma but these emails after thumpings are getting a bit monotonous

Latest DIRECT FROM DIMMA email about the Eagles loss
Dear OE,
Despite the final margin in Sunday's match against West Coast, I thought our team, overall, did show some improvement on recent form. We were very competitive in the first quarter, dropped away in the second term, but showed admirable fighting qualities to kick seven goals in the third quarter and outscore our highly-rated opponents on their home turf, to give ourselves a chance at the last change. Unfortunately, the Eagles finished the match much more strongly than us, which again underlined the importance of us sustaining our intensity of effort. We worked hard to get ourselves back in the contest, but just couldn't quite sustain it.

Dear OE,
I thought our playing group showed impressive resilience and maturity to win the match against Melbourne at the 'G yesterday. To clearly hold sway throughout the first half, then have the Demons cut us up in the third quarter, before regaining the ascendancy in the final term, and coming away with the four points, was a very good sign with regards to our development.

The latest DIRECT FROM DIMMA email about win over Adelaide should be in your inbox...
Dear OE,
To beat the Adelaide Crows in Adelaide, when they have their tails up, is never easy, so that's what made our win against them at AAMI Stadium yesterday all the more meritorious. Forget the fact that the Crows, statistically, are having one of their worst seasons since joining the competition. In their previous four games under caretaker coach, Mark Bickley, they had won three and been narrowly beaten by Geelong. Their form-line going into the game was very good, and when they skipped away to a four-goal lead during the third quarter, with the local fans in full cry, it was going to take something pretty special from our boys to haul them in. Again, it was our young leadership group, who responded superbly to the challenge confronting the team . . .

Just veggie hot dogs but it was bad timing!! Wasn't expecting him on at all and was halfway through frying crap (and copped a decent whack in the eyes from vengeful onions... anyone got any tips for that!!?). But it was a good interview. He was asked about our players bombing the ball, but he said that's a confidence thing. He said it takes time for players to be confident enough to cut a ball inside and they can't always pick someone out down the line. So they pick the most conservative option which is the spray. He also said defenders take longer than anyone else to develop and went through how inexperienced our line is (not as in excuses though! Insider conveniently had a chart ready with our defender's games played). He's expecting Grimes to have a break out year similar to Rance's 2011, and that we'll rotate two talls through Cloke and Dawes depending on whoever is firing at the time since we won't be able to roll with a third tall. Some plays were broken down and I resigned to the fact that I was never going to remember it all. Went for like 10mins!
Was asked on the draw. He didn't want to give away too much, but said 2 and 3 would of been excellent. The players might have choked a bit after being so pumped up by the hype and the crowd. At Geelong and up at Manuka there were only small crowds. He also said facing an undermanned Geelong and GWS may not of been the best preparation in comparison to Carlton's pre-season where they worked hard.
