Title: Concussion Rule
Post by: TigerLand on April 02, 2011, 12:32:35 AM
I know there we half a dozen unforgivable incorrect decisions by the men in green tonight. But I felt just as robbed by the concussion rule....

I'm assuming Jack couldn't pass the test to go back on. So he was subbed.

I think the rule isn't a bad one as it projects the long term health of players which can't be bad. But again where the AFL fail with everything tehy do is the interpretation of the rule.

What is a bad enough concussion that warrants to be forced out of the game? Mitch Clark had his forehead busted open and was walking around like a Irishman on St Pats day. Yet 5 minutes later jingerly jogged back on? How is that fair on Carlton having Waite forced out and on us for having Riewoldt forced out?

There should be an AFL official doctor that has a universal test and is done immediately any player is suspected to be concussed.

I fear that players will refuse to come off when concussed infear they will be subbed off. Phil Davis was a good example for Adelaide vs Hawthorn. His head collided with Franklins knee and was out for the count. The doctors helped him up and he took the kick and looked very shaky. The siren went and he ran straight down the race for a rest out of the AFL's eyes. Clever by Adelaide. He came back and was good as gold.

When Jack went down it looked like he was trying to stay out there cause he knew that he was in strife if he left the field.

Bad rule for mine and has failed.

It's simply. Not fair.

Facts. -

big screen showed Jack looking. Fine.

In the last
5 mins we pumped ball into 5o
at least half a dozen times.

Jack would
have caught at least of those
and we have won.

I can understand the reasoning for the rule to stop the long term effects repeated concussions create.

Surely there is a better way of implementing it.
If someone is concussed they can take the field but must wear a footy helmet.

Jack wasn't a happy camper on the bench when told he would be subbed. Poor Matt Hornsby was just doing his job but Jack gave him a spray.

The problem with the current rule is clubs will try to avoid admitting a player is concussed so they don't lose that player for the whole game.

At the social club fuction after the game we told about the tests.

There are a series of tests that any player player knocked out goes through to determine if they can go back on. One of these is closing your eyes and standing on leg. I think they said Jack failed this test.

It has nothing to do with the umps but is determined by the medical staff.

And that's why the decision isnt made simply by looking at a players demeanour.  ::)

Not sure I can do that without a concussion
