Title: John Butcher vs Dustin Martin
Post by: TigerLand on April 06, 2011, 01:15:26 PM
Where is the savior John Butcher?

Couldn't get a kick in the NAB cup. No Schultz, Port are a rabble? Where is this kid?

We've been proven right with Dusty.

Even if Butcher comes out in 2-3 years and become a elite player (unlikely) we picked the right player for wher we were at.

Dustin Martin over John Butcher any day.

Dustin Martin has been the perfect fit for Richmond.

The club was screaming out for a "physical beast" and we got it with Martin.

Will be a modern day Jack Dyer.

No way would I swap Dusty but a bit harsh on Butcher as we know KPPs take longer. Butcher kicked 3 goals in a quarter for Port Magpies on the weekend so he may get a game for the Power soon. He was injured for most of last year with stress fractures in his back so that's why he hasn't played a game. Remember Jack in his second year wasn't in our best 22 until round 4 so you can't judge Butcher yet. We'll see how good/bad Butcher is by his 4th-5th year in the AFL.

This is obviously a wind up for Tigermonk  ;D :yep who was pumping up Butcher's tyres prior to the 2009 draft.

beat me to it MT.

Butcher has had major back issues. It will take 2-3 years to recover properly and to happen so early in his career may cause him to never make the grade.

By the time Butcher starts to prove he is a player of worth Martin should be picking up his first Brownlow.. :lol

We did make the right decision though, the majority of us all wanted Martin, but the ones that wanted Butcher over Martin..well... :o :-[

Yeah I don't pretend to know the future like some, which is why recruiting is such a hard job.

Dusty was just the perfect mould for Richmond, needed some hardness in the midfield and someone who can kick goals and have decent skills.

I'm sure John will go onto to play 100+ AFL games but regardless however good they are if we had Butcher on our list and not Dusty it would be a vastly different RFC then it is now.

i think you will find he loved the club just as we all do. He had a few quid on the Pies on 2010, big deal!! So did i and i will this year also

Im serious i thought he was right on the money with some of the things he used to comment on.

I must read a different forum, I can't remember a thread he made sense.

His vocal protests against drafting Dustin Martin over John Butcher.
His vocal protests against drafting Ben Griffths who he apparently predicts to be injury prone. Yet contradicting the fact that John Butcher was injured with stress fractures and it was OK to draft him.

The list goes on daniel, I think you'll find he was wrong more than he was right.

Regardless, the initial thread was to highlight the fact we got a draft pick 100% spot on. We cop an ear full about Franklin vs Tambling and Fiora vs Pavlich. Just imagine adding to that with Martin vs Butcher and having Butcher limp around at Coburg injured whilst Dusty arguably wins NAB rising star (if it wasn't for horrible suspension).

Just imagine the garbage we'd be copping.

Would love a big center half forward at the moment to act as a linkman coming out of defence and to take some of the pressure off Jack. Just hope Griffiths becomes that man. I would never swap Dusty... but we do need some help forward and if Butcherever comes good he could prove to be that exact type of player.

I think Vickery gets forgotten about alot. As a 2nd ruckman and KP Forward he could be very dangerous in years to come. Great kick for a big man.
