As much as last nights game was a complete disgrace we need to remember that those sort of games are going to happen in our search for success. We are young, inexperienced and still very light as a collective. We have shown in the last couple of weeks that we are heading in the right direction but to think that games like last night are behind us is a little premature.
Last night we were out played, out mussled, out coached and umpired out of the game. The Hawks were on from the outset and played the conditions very well just as we played the conditions terribly. We seemed not to want to get in and get our hands dirty. We played dry weather footy and played like we had got ahead of ourselves a little.
For me dropping lots of players after a lose is just not practical at the stage we are at. If there is somebody bashing the door down in the twos then fine but lets not just make changes from the side that has played pretty well in the first two weeks of the year for the sake of making changes just because we lost.
Conca has shown me he is worth persisting with as with Batchlor and Helbig.
Richmond had a bad game last night we all know that but lets take a step backwards and just let these kids play for a while together and I'm pretty sure they will do us all proud. What choice do we have??? :help
It ain't going to happen over night though!!!

Excellent post BT - absolutely spot on comments. Especially the point about getting ahead of ourselves - something I think the supporters might be just as guilty of as the players.

top post Big Tone. :thumbsup
agree wholeheartedly.

and next week will be another one

Next week would be the week to stay home for everyone. All you be doing is watching misery & funding another club at the turnstiles.
REPHRASE, everyone turn up ;D buisness as normal lol
-
its our home game and I go everyweek, rain hail or shine, lets hope its doesnt rain again though, the Mrs just through the $2.00 poncho in the bin, LOL

my draw must be a misprint cause it say Collingwood vs Richmond. l be there in the MCC waving ;D

RFC home game
-
Yes we got smashed last night.Completely out muscled and out classed. However the positives for me were...
(1) Nathan Foley 24 touches.
(2) Second half score was 33-43.
(3) More inside 50s. :o
(4) Played 20 players with less than 100 games experience.

Would be one of many mistakes printed in a Collingwood membership package.

Positives the performances of Cotchin, King, Nahas, Jackson and Foley. Believe Helbig has a future

my sentiments exactly Bo, was having dinner in stkilda with the fairer half and decided at the last minute not to go. Being 5 goals down in 15 mins in those conditions justified my decision
-
Um....no...unless there were individual performances and unfortunately individuals don't make a team.
-
We're still only averaging 51 games experience per player in our side which is only 5 games more than Gold Coast in Round 3 and 2.5 less than Gold Coast in Round 2 when they were pumped by over 100 points. After 2 games against some pretty good sides they have a percentage of 35%, ours is 73%.
We always knew the first four rounds were going to be tough, I'm surprised we even managed to get a draw out of one of them.

Yep
Grimes was a positive thinking long term

Actually agree with you but it doesn't do anything for the disappointment from the Saturday night. For me it wasn't the result it was the effort, or lack of in the 1st half
-
im hoping we turn up for the big dance against the hated enemy. Maybe we were saving ourselves for it. Foley looked awesome, I liked Connors too, despite the errors some raised, these were due to the pressure / and lack of support from the majority of our team which seemed to be half hearted. Most of our better players didn't turn up. Some of the newer guys had their jobs cut out for em and for us to pee and moan when grimes had to contain buddy and astbury had to contain roughhead would be pretty cruel, these blokes joined us last year. The blokes they are on have a premiership to their name and are in their prime so im not gonna go scream and fling poo around like a chimp about it.
-
Kingy, Nahas & what WP said on Grimes. Despite being toweled up by Franklin, I can see some real potential there. He will learn from the experience for sure. In actual fact I'd keep playing him if we are serious about development.
-
No injuries. Nights like Saturday when it wet and we're copping a belting usually end in an ugly injury for one of our players.
We got the ball inside 50 a lot, that's always good.
Cotch was awesome, throwing himself into every contest head first.
-
We didn't come to play like the Hawks did. Reminded me of the North game late last year where we turned up expecting to do well and treated it like a dry weather game. In other words we were a bit lazy 8)

Agree with that - the midfield still did a job even when we were getting fairly whacked.

Agree with that too. Someone posted a couple of days ago about getting ahead of ourselves!
-
I like the fact Bradley helbig is well up for fighting if he is started.

I guess this can give us hope of being competitive against Collingwood knowing that the players will be disappointed with their lack of desperation against the hawks

Post of the day.
-
we had lots of positives but some are just to blind to see them
sure we butchered the ball, and got smashed on the score board but there was still alot to like from such a young team
vickery is progressing nicely
houli showed signs he will be good for us
grigg also
the young boys did well
foley is getting better
cotch is well cotch
grimes never got towelled by buddy, he held his own in nearly every one on one contest, many of his goals were not grimes' fault
we went inside 50 over 50 times, just didnt go inside properly
kingy
maybe that loss will be the turning point for us
-
houli showed signs he will be good for us
have to agree about Houli x, I thought he was very good - best game thus far

I was upset with the manner of the loss but after the event I have to agree with you. Yep a 10 goal loss is a 10 goal loss but under closer scrutiny I thought our kids did okay too and thought Hawthorn are a possible top 4 side and Grand Finalist and we as things stand are a bottom four side but we all knew that. So why the panic vitriol and anger? Lets compose ourselves and if in 12-18 months we are still getting flogged like this then we ask questions. It was only a month ago we lost to Adelaide in the NAB challenge and we heard the same thing about the same players as we are hearing now yet alot have conveniently forgotten our boys did okay in the first two rounds. We are talking about a team who is barely older and more experienced than Gold Coast. Take a deep breath boys. :help

Don't underestimate how poor Richmond was against Adelaide in the preseason game.

We were poorer on Saturday night than we were that day. Club lost more too being the first home game of the season also. Just a bad night all round from coaching staff down to the players. Write off and lets move on to the next game. :thumbsup

yes l agree pre-season means very little

Exactly Tucker
2 days after the event I am calmer and can see some positives
But it was how we lost that got under my skin more than anything. I can deal with losses as long as we are competitive. But on Saturday night for the first half at least we got the bad Tigers - non competitive and it appeared lacking decent ticker

I think thats what gets under most our skins WP, being non competitive is not an option with this club now. Really the players have to show we have moved on from those days and unfortunately those days reared their ugly head again against the Hawks..
-
We not as bad as people think. We are lacking a couple of players who would add alot to the structure of the side. A player who can roam around chf and play high between 40 and 60 and a big key defender would help us alot IMHO.
-
what about that griffo bloke at chf, popelord said he the man ;D
