Big Griff in = great to see
Also good move brining him back via VFL reserves; just to get some "easier" match time into him
-
Go big Ben :thumbsup
Not great if Gourdis plays reserves again, or if Morton and Astbury play full forward and forward pocket
Or if Hislop plays anywhere! :lol Prove me wrong Tom!
-
Great news about Big Ben :thumbsup.
Gourdis will play seniors as he is named on the bench. Astbury named up forward but you'd expect him to play in defence and Morton will surely play midfield/forward otherwise playing FF would mean the coaches have given up on Morton's wish to play midfield.
-
Excellent to see Griffs name in there, good luck mate, well done to Westhoff as well. Also good to see Hislop in, I really hopes he makes it, he is the hard at it player Hardwick could turn around IMO.

Hislop was named in the coburg ressie's last week from memory. Anyone know how he went? must of shown abit to go up to seniors one would think.

Gourdis never actually played reserves despite being named there

Is McDonald injured?

Is McDonald injured?
Yep.

Yep.
what injury?
If so it's a shame. 3 goals last week and coburg could use a forward.

Nup there's no radio/internet coverage today.

Anyone there?
-
BF said Griffiths played a half in the ressies and on the wing to get run in his legs.
RT73 on BF says Coburg seniors are up by 13 early on. Morton kicked the first. Post, Gourdis and Derickx all up forward.
-
Just check my mobile. FF said Griffiths played a half at CHB in the ressies. Coburg ressies lead for 2.5 qtrs but from late in the 3rd qtr Willy ressies kicked 10 goals to 3.
-
Add to that FF said Griffiths got through fine and "spent the 2nd half showered and yawning".

Benny G. Love this kid great news.

1/4 time
Coburg 3.3-21
Willy 4.6-30
-
Hardwick watching the game with Lade, Leppa, Newy, Lids, Jack, Jake, Conca, Nason and Dusty.
-
From FF:
"Gourdis and Derickx key forwards. Not that it's getting there much. Post started forward now at full back. Basically getting smashed."
Scoreless quarter from Coburg :P
Half-time
Coburg 3.3 3.3-21
Willy 4.6 7.10-52
-
Bests to half-time: Not many obviously after a scoreless quarter but FF says Webberley the go-to man is doing well.
-
Gee, it's hard for some of the RFC listed players to be selected when the team is going so bad. I suppose though that if they want to be selected then they would stand out a bit more.
-
Coburg flogged again :(

Hislop named in the best, well done, gee Morton, stand up you bloody whimp!!! You should be in the firsts kicking goals like the Milnes, Betts and Didak's of the competition. Instead you can't even be named as one of the better players for a very average seconds side, shame on you.
I had and minimally have now a lot of time for Morton, really thought he could be our X factor, not really sure where he can go from here, just hope he improves. VERY peeved with him!

Gee, Webberley and Browne must be really knocking on the door now unless there is no love on the Match Committee for them.

Yeah, what's that, 3-4 weeks now Browne has been named in the best with at least 1 BOG... Goat pictures perhaps.. :lol.

Maybe Gus is the one with the pictures :rollin

Does anyone know what position morton is playing at coburg?
-
He was playing down back, I presume to teach him defensive pressure which is what Hardwick keeps on about.

Coburg turned it on in the first half of the last quarter. At the 15 min mark they were only 22 points down and on a roll. An upset was brewing.
Then Williamstown banged on the last 6 goals.
-
Coburg use to be full of handy smalls and a decent VFL standard midfield under coach Andy Collins but lacked size and talls. Now they appear to have a few tall targets up forward but the midfield appears too ordinary to win enough of the ball and provide decent delivery to them. Would that be a fair summary of where Coburg are at?
-
... ruckman Ayce Cordy was beaten by Richmond's Andrew Browne.
The big man was again Coburg's best, racking up 28 hitouts and 20 disposals, while Jeromey Webberley collected 31 touches and 10 marks across half-back.
"We played some good footy, but 40 minutes of footy isn't going to get you a result," Coburg coach Adam Potter lamented.

Yes. The other thing I noticed yesterday was that Willy were really adept at building the brick wall across our half forward line too. So that on the rare occasions when we actually had the ball in the middle we just swung it from stuff to stuff looking for an opening, and going nowhere in the process. Then inevitably we'd cough it up, and they'd catch our defence one out time and time again. This unfortunately is the modern game with the press which everybody except us seems to be copying successfully at all levels.
-
One thing I noticed yesterday which is a critiscism of the Coburg coaches is the amount of Rotations.
OUT OF CONTROL ROTATIONS!
They are rotating players for the sake of rotating players. Not even the AFL Pies rotate that much surely. If you want to win a game for god sake leave them in their positions for at least 10 minutes at a time. Being uninformed I'm not sure if this is a RFC directive or a Coburg directive but it was flipping ridiculous to watch the crowds of Coburg players coming on and off the ground. The players would have been more tired from running to and from the bench then being tired from general play. If they weren't coming to the bench they were being moved to different positions around the ground. How can players develop when they can't stay on the ground or stay in one position on the ground?
Half the time I don't think the players knew where they were playing.
-
Cut our ties with Coburg, they are holding us back. Richmond must go it along or will fail in the future

Sun 01 May, 2011
Andrew Browne and Jeromey Webberley continued their excellent VFL form in Coburg’s loss to Williamstown in the VFL yesterday (Sunday May 2).
Browne collected 20 touches and had 28 hitouts, while Webberley sustained his purple patch for the Tigers with 31 possessions.
Webberley also found the scoreboard with a goal, along with Mitch Morton and first-year ruckman Tom Derickx.
Richmond tall forward Ben Griffiths made his return to the field for Coburg reserves, after shoulder surgery in the off season.
Coburg has the bye this weekend, before travelling to Eureka Stadium to take on North Ballarat on Sunday May 15.

Hislop knocking at the door. ;D
-
Development coach, David Newett, provides a summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at AFL level with Coburg in last Sunday’s clash with Williamstown . . .
Morton 26 possies
Hislop 25 possies
Browne 20 possies, 28 hitouts
Astbury 19 possies, 10 marks
Jeromey Webberley
Was the most damaging Coburg player on the day, rebounding from across half-back and using the ball efficiently. Didn’t play the previous week due to the fact he was emergency for the Richmond team, and did his chance of promotion no harm with his display last Sunday.
Ben Griffiths (Coburg reserves)
Got through the allotted game time in his long-waited return to the playing field following his shoulder reconstruction last year. His tackling pressure was good and he had a few scoring involvements.

Round 5 Match Reports Vs. Williamstown
Coburg website
SENIORS
We met Williamstown at Mantello Holden Oval on Sunday on what turned out to be a great day weather wise.
We had a lot of use of the ball early and Mitch Morton kicked the first goal and Justin Kahlefeldt the 2nd,but we didn’t score enough from our early forward entries which would have put some early scoreboard pressure on Williamstown.
We had good contributions by Webberely,Morton,Kahlefeldt and Hislop but still went into the first break 9 points down.
The 2nd quarter was disappointing as we failed to score, however we managed to restrict Williamstown to only 3 goals and headed into the main break 5 goals down.
Had we kicked straight in the 3rd quarter then the deficit could have been different as we kicked 1.6 to 4.4,and the margin went out to 47 points at the last change.
One encouraging thing is that we did not give up and kicked 5 goals in the final quarter, but Williamstown managed to kick 6 goals and we lost by 52 points.
The stats will show we had similar possession totals but our ball use must improve if we are to match a team like Williamstown, but it will come and we are on track to have a win in the coming weeks.
On the positive side, Justin Kahlefeldt played one of his best games for the club ,and first gamer Rowan Hore kicked 2 goals.David Fahey in only his 2nd senior game was far from disgraced playing down back and the ever reliable Andrew Browne continued his good form as did Michael Tanner.
COBURG: 3.3 3.3 4.9 9.12-66
WILLIAMSTOWN: 4.6 7.10 11.14 17.16-118
Goalkickers:Hore 2,Kahlefedlt 2,Wbberley,Morton,Duhau,Derrickx,Ambrose
DEVELOPMENT
The group put up a great effort against a strong Williamstown outfit.
We managed to restrict them to just 1 goal up until halftime, but Williamstown came out in the 2nd half and kicked 11 goals to 5 and showed why they are a regular finals team.
Jamason Daniels and Damien Rayson took their demotion on the chin and put in some very solid efforts and young forward James Lawton kicked 5 goals.
Glenn Grgic gave us some good drive from the centre and around the ground and maybe considered for a senior game soon as the 23rd player.
Ben Griffiths played his first game for the season after having shoulder surgery and got through unscathed which was fantastic.
James Saville playing across half back is now playing some consistent footy and has hopefully now gotten over all his injuries and is due for a change of luck.
COBURG: 1.1 4.5 6.9 9.11-65
WILLIAMSTOWN: 0.3 1.5 5.10 12.14-86
Goalkickers:Lawton 5,Daniels,Westhoff,Griffiths,Pound
We have the bye this weekend and then we head down to Eureka Stadium in Ballarat on May 15th at 11am and 2pm.
