Just a question but before just shooting it down, just take a second to consider what it replaces and then see if its an improvement or not.
Will Minson is playing for the Western Bulldogs this weekend, but with Hudson and Roughhead seemingly in front of him, would or should we consider a bloke of his size and experience at years end? He is 26 years old but most on here would agree we may need to look outside of the club and find a ruckmen that can compete now. He may not be in our long term plans but...... And if not him, which other second string ruckmen from another club would we consider to help our young and exciting midfield get their hands and the ball first?
-
no not for me.
if we must id go for Hamish Mcintosh, although North wont let him go.
-
Not sure if 3rd string ruckman who are already of an age where they have matured is the type of ruckman we need at this stage. Would it be much of an upgrade, surely it would only be short term.
I don't know why people think a ruckman is what we need right now, it is the last piece of the puzzle unless we have one that develops as a junior at the club.
-
Pass on Minson. 2nd stringer who isn't a first ruck not a reliable tall forward target.
-
i'd grab him.
-
Spoke with Bev Stevens about this over a cup of mud and she reckons he is twice the player Graham is. She reckons Graham is a softie with no ability and no football nous. Gotta love big Bev. she hits hard!
Dunno what Pam thinks but the TugBoat probably loves Goose. Personally I miss Stafford
-

yeah...but where?

i wouldnt say that they've tried before the asking price was R1 selection
-
I call him Will "Mincer"! Does that answer the ?
-
Pass. Too much Trent knobel about him.

Maybe Bev can help you with your insomnia/dementia?

How many have we developed in the last 30 years? Our record in developing ruckmen is terrible! The only decent ruckmen we have had in that period is ones we have traded for.
I'm not saying i want WM but he is only 26, and would give us a short term upgrade and give our boys, Vickory, Gus and Browne more time to develop.
And lets face it, he would come pretty cheap now.
-
Will Minson would only be taking the spot of someone who would need games for their own player development. No thanks to Will Minson.

Lets be honest, he would be a first ruck at our club at the moment.... Forget about getting a forward as well, we need somebody that can compete in the centre square and around the ground with throw ins and ball ups. Thinking we are going to get a decent ruckman and somebody that can go forward and kick us goals that isn't getting a game at another club is just not going to happen.
Actually, how many first rucks can go forward can kick goals regularly??? Maybe 3 or 4 at best....
-

Doubtful

Maybe not WM but we cannot have it both ways. Most on here think Gus should be sent back to Coburg, and Vickory and Browne just are not ready to be first ruck. So who would be missing out?
And the worst case is Gus starts playing well at Coburg, and there is competition for the spot. Win win :pray

I'm not a Gus hater, as you can see from some of my other posts, i just think he needs more developement. I still think he could turn out ok but at the moment he is a second stinger.
And i can tell you WM would get a game before Gus if he were on our list.
-
Hamish Macintosh would be high on my priority list, still has a good 4-5 years left in him, and will be available via Free Agency.
-
:lol
Minson is 26 played 100 games. He should be just into his prime as a ruckman, yet his stats hardly even stacked up against Gus last year;
Games Kicks Handballs Disposals Marks Goals Behinds Tackles Hitouts Frees For Frees Ag.
15 4.2 6.5 10.7 3.1 0.4 0.3 3.4 19.2 0.8 1.3
15 5.9 5.0 10.9 3.2 0.5 0.5 2.1 13.1 1.3 1.7
If gus, into his 4th year is a dud, then minson in his eight year is a dud of duds!

correct. Wont cost us nothing on the trade table.
Only if he has a clean bill of health and is over his injuries.
people forget how good he was a few years back.

Minson plays second fiddle at WB while Gus is our number 1. If Minson rucked a whole games for us like Graham did then his output would be better, IMO. Having said that, i dont have much interest in Minson
-
even allowing for that, for a bloke that should be in his prime there is not much to get excited about in those stats.
he's hardly improved his output after his second year.
-
Just to play devil's advocate and throw in a curve ball - Mark Jamar played his 100th game last night at 27 years of age. Was All Australian last year I believe? Not that I think Graham will ever make it because he is a marshmallow and you can't teach courage and heart, but time spent waiting for big blokes to come good is more likely to produce a good outcome than with smaller players. The Minson proposal does have some merit in my opinion, but my trade off for doing it would be to flick Graham and let Vickery, Browne and Derrickx develop while Minson takes the knocks. He would certainly give our midfield better and more first use of the ball.
-
I doubt your output would increase that much it would warrant bringing in a player who isnt going to get much better for a player who at least has age on his side in terms of development to come?
-

Minson would still be a short cut, he's not a long term solution

Disagree, WM may not be the answer, but having him (or somebody like him) now for the short term can give our other developing ruckmen time to actually develop in body and in technique.
Brad Miller ring a bell? Pretty sure Dimma knows Miller is not a long term solution. But he can help with the development of our young forwards.
We need to stop thinking about getting the next Dean Cox and just be happy to have someone that can compete and as i have said, give our on-baller first use.
The other thing to think about to is our midfielders are developing too and for them to continue to improve, they need to learn from a half decent tap ruckmen.
-
Miller was only a rookie pick, Minson will take a lot more than that to get to the club
Miller will also be out of the side as soon as Griffiths is fit, I don't see that happening with Minson, he will be playing ahead of the kids we want to develop and give experience
We either trade for a ruckman who will be our #1 ruck in our next premiership side, or we persist with kids, however I think that trade can wait until the last minute. Just look at how Collingwood & Sydney did it with Jolly, Geelong did it with Ottens. Unless you are West Coast and have a Cox that has come through the rookie draft, you just don't need that gun ruckman just yet.
-
Minson is a stuffing dud end of story
-
No Jolly really makes a difference to Collingwood and exposes their lack of ruck depth. Minson just had 17 hitouts in a quarter against Cameron Wood.
-
Minson 56 hit outs tonight.
If it was against Jolly/Leroy it would be impressive but against Wood, it doesnt count for much.
-
did Graham get more than 40 against wood? if not, delist asap. wood is a stuffing disgrace
-

36 Davey to be exact.
Believe me Graham is a far better ruck prospect than Wood and thats saying something,so IMO Minson's 56 today doesnt hold much weight.
-
Gr8 timing 'Mincer'
-
Dud :cheers
-
Looking on the AFL site surprised to see Angus 3rd in the league for hit outs!
http://www.afl.com.au/stats/tabid/73/default.aspx
Probably has a lot to do with game time as he doesn't get long out of the ruck and thankfully no mention of where they go
-
Three seasons on, had a great couple of years and now All Australian, and we could have got him for next to nothing. Has any bodies thought changed on big Will?
Would have been a pretty good foil for Ivan.
