Essendon aim to raise $15 million from supporters to help fund the AFL club's momentous shift from Windy Hill to near Melbourne Airport.
The Bombers' hierarchy used Wednesday's lunch for the idiot Reynolds Club, an important club coterie group, to start the fundraising drive.
They say the new training and administrative facility will cost $30 million, up from the $25 million they forecast last December when Essendon confirmed the move from their spiritual home would go ahead.

Coach James Hird, club chairman David Evans and Bombers chief executive Ian Robson spoke on Wednesday about how the success of the move was vital to the club.
"Frankly, failure isn't an option," Robson said.

Talk about wishful thinking and quite strange to go to supporters to garner major funds for facilties when seeking government grants is the usual method as we and most clubs did.
-
Perhaps the govt has already told them to go eff themselves.?
Do they own or lease Windy Hill? Mighty valuable real estate there.

Not sure. I know they are leaving because the bowling club told them to get stuffed when the Bombers wanted to expand Windy Hill initially. So you'd think the bowling club must own some of the land or at least hold part of the lease otherwise the footy club could have kicked them out.

co-lease with the Bowls club
Bowls club lease their bit and Footy club lease theirs
Bombers want Bowls to move, Bowls have refused...
I don't think Bombers have asked nicely or were prepared to work with the Bowls club like the RFC did with the cricket club

True WP. We are very fortunate to have Punt Rd in prime location next to the city, MCG and Richmond station and to be able to work things out with the RCC is a credit to the RFC admin. Essendon because of their holy than thou attitude are now forced to head out to whoop whoop where there's no decent public transport compared to Windy Hill which is in their heartland and right by Essendon station.

Bombers couldnt convince 75 bowling clubs members they would be better off else where.
What a shame that the bowling club has 75 old fools as members, LOL
Going to cost the Football Club heaps now .
All they had to do with a buy another local bowling club and relocat there bowling club and compensate by putting in an ''indoor Bowling green ""
Thats all the old fools wanted ::)

It was an interesting battle as the Footy Club were going to buy the Buckley Park Bowling Club but didnt want to pay the 2million required.
Now they have to dish out 15m
-
Yep strange indeed, made a mess of that one the bombres!
-
I think they wanted to move anyway so they had more space and just fumbled the bowling club issue so they had someone to blame for deserting windy hill

They didnt want to move I can assure you
They have there social club and swimming pool there which are staying.
Inetresting times ahead at windy hill
-
not really

If the Bombers want to save some money they can get rid of that dud Riemers. Kicking 7 goals against a mostly U19 Gold Coast defence is nothing if you go missing against any real AFL competition.
-
Cost cutting on the coaching staff is a good place to start saving for $15 million.
