Title: Positives from today's game?
Post by: one-eyed on May 15, 2011, 05:22:33 PM
We at least never gave up. What other positives from today?

 :lol

I think that is is a big positive OE. they came to play and threatened to blow us away a couple of times and we were able curtail it.

Kicked 18 goals. I'm enjoying the ride this year but sick to death of finding positives out of defeats.

Someone needs to apply the blow torch to the coaching department this week and ask why are we starting so poorly.

the lid's back on - that's a positive. some people were getting carried away - I'd rather our players get a reality check now than later.

Also, Helbig showed a lot - he's going to be pretty good I reckon

One game closer to Graham's last game?   :'(

I got told today I am too harsh on gus  ::) I don't think enough people are harsh enough on him

He needs to go because he continues to refuse to do the team thing - his effort in the 2nd to come in from the side to spoil rather than coming formt eh goal line was pathetic and highlights why I get frustrated with

Today's result was exactly what I expected to be honest... bitterly disappointed but not surprised at all

No no no...

Let me tell you, he is considered soft by those within the club.

Don't feel ashamed to pursue the truth

Gus is a VFA/VFL standard ruckman. Thats it unfortunately.  ;)

Unfortunately for us, a good ruckman's mark on a game has become even more important over the past 3-4 years...and we have some seriously mediocre ruckmen.

Throw all of them 2 contracts and let them battle it out on KPI's.

spot on mate.

i think we OER, together with the football club were getting ahead of ourselves. Martin is going down the Lids road of not being able to break a tag.

Lets face facts we beat freo who have lost the past 7 or whatever it is at the G. The rest of our wins were against battling clubs.

Cant bear to watch Graham. His good is average and his bad is very Adam pattisonish. He is fair dinkum hopeless

Not so dissapointed with the loss. Brings us back to earth, and a heavy defeat against the Bummers looms large if we dont sort our poo out with these starts.

LMFAO at 7 days there was talk of finals then we allow once again a bloke like Gilbee smash us.

Agree certainly a reality check but I am peeved with this pathetic starts

As for Gilbee -still one of the best kicks in the comp and he must have thought Xmas came 7 months early with Grimes staying on him  ;D

problem is wp, we have no other options, unlesss browne somehow does something

conca dusty cotch foley lids and nahas were good today

helbig showed something

we never gave up even when the umps once again failed to use the same interpretation for both teams, we always get screwed

we lost because when were caught up and were 12 points down , we took it too easy as we thought it was just gonna happen, we will learn from that

I don't know how BrownE wnet today but in his 3 previous games for Coburg he's been named in the best so I think he deserve some sort of opportunity rather than having to put up with Gus' non competitive efforts on a weekly basis

I can't find my post a few weeks back where I gave Graham an absolute bake.

I don't like getting emotional on this forum, but I absolutely hate Angus lol.

Bring in Browne for heavens sake.

Totally agree TM.

We wont 3 in a row and we lose one, i know it was a disapointing loss but we still have a very young inexperienced team.

We are on the right path.

Miller was another great positive for me from todays game. Showed he could kick goals and along with Vickery make our path to goal far less predictable for the oppositions defenders. While he won't be around in a few years, he is providing great structure and leadership down the forwardline which I hope someone such as Griffiths/Post/Astbury can then readily step into when they are well and truly ready.

As others have already mentioned - Helbig played a good game and was a beautiful kick for goal and in general play. Tough at the ball and not easily tackled or pushed aside either particularly considering he is still only 19 years old.

Conca played through the middle much more today and found the ball a great deal. He was very composed in space but showed his inexperience at times when under pressure especially physical pressure. Was fearful of making mistakes at times such as leaving the ball for a team mate when he was in the better position and looking for the safer target rather than the greater reward path.

Another huge positive is that we are playing very inexperienced kids and are still competitive. When you look at who was playing we had three kids playing from the draft - Conca, Batchelor and Helbig plus Grimes from the PSD. Four first year players is a big percentage of inexperience in any team but when you look at those around them who are barely much older including Martin, Vickery and Rance. Even the players we consider core experienced players such as Cotchin, Grigg, Houli, Edwards etc would be condered babies in almost any other team. People are probably sick of hearing this point but it's worth remembering.

Wallace team would have lost after a first quarter like that by 150 points. To lose by 35 is a positive, the kids just never gave up.

Have to say, yes the game was lost in the first, but the Umpires made some of the worst calls in that 3rd and 4th term. I think we had 2 free kicks after half time, in the 3rd they had 7 frees to our 0.

All the kids we drafted look great, we have a bright future ahead.

Gus is poo, putting in an extra midfielder to work off the opposition rucks hit outs would work better! I am sick of seeing his massive frame watching opposition ruck men at the bounce and not the ball, wailing his arms like a flacid tentacle when he realises he hasn't been hurt in the ruck contest to try and find the ball in the air, and then going to ground after like he has been hit by a sniper.

He walks around the ground when he isn't rucking looking at the grass as if he has lost his keys  :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead How anyone can consider this lump of useless crap to be in the top 10 ruckmen in the league is a joke. Notice when Vickery went into the ruck we started to win some clearances? Put Vickery in the ruck against the bombers and Post into the Forward line. Or just bring in Browne, who cares how he went at Coburg, just get rid of Graham!

Post by: Stripes on May 16, 2011, 11:27:03 AM
I don't think there are few if any people an hear who don't think Gus, in his current form, is any more than a stop gap measure until Vickery can claim the No 1 Ruck position. The problem then would be who will become the Back Up Ruck? People throw names around such as Browne but I've never seen any evidence to suggest he will be the answer around the ground or up forward than Gus isn't. Post perhaps but he can't even fight his way into the team at present and Derickx is an unknown quanity. So we just have to suck it up in the short term.

1, We fought it out.
2, Helbig & Vickery.

Cant bear to watch Graham. His good is average and his bad is very Adam pattisonish.

At least Patto was no pea heart.

Not his fault he was so slow, had no leap, and was poor overhead....  ;D

Having had time to think about yesterday's game

Outside of Helbig I and not being thumped by 10 goals plus I can't find many positives

A bit like others I am getting 'jack of' of coming up with positives after losses

Didn't get thrashed. Martin is a class act. Nahas playing well as is Conca. Spread of goal kickers. Able to kick a high score against a good team.
