RICHMOND forward Jake King has failed to beat a charge of making unnecessary contact with a trainer during Sunday's game at Etihad Stadium.

However the AFL Tribunal ruled the recommended $1600 fine should be reduced to $800.

King claimed the incident happened in a split second and when he first reacted to push the trainer, he wasn't looking at him and thought he was a Western Bulldogs player.
