RICHMOND players will wear guernseys featuring indigenous motifs in the Dreamtime Saturday night clash against Essendon at the MCG.

The artwork depicts footballs on either side of a river on the traditional yellow sash. Indigenous Round features a "warrior" theme.

"The footballs on either side of the river mimic the shape of shields used by Aboriginal warriors," designer Jirra Lulla Harvey said.

"Aboriginal football players are not only great athletes, but ... local heroes and community ambassadors.

"For our young people, AFL stars are seen as contemporary warriors."

Tiffany Cherry's Flash Footy documentary on indigenous footballers will screen on Fox Sports One at 7pm tonight.

I'm happy it's just a one-off but the guernsey looked pretty good out there watching the game live at the ground last night. Of course winning over a hated archrival can make anything look good lol.
