So that's ...
In: Edwards, Hislop, Astbury, Webberley
Out: Helbig
-
Glad to see Webberley and Astbury as possibles. Backline looks very short need Astbury in. Would rather Astbury than Hislop
-
Here's the Sydney Swans line-up:
B: Ted Richards, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Alex Johnson

C: Rhyce Shaw, Jude Bolton, Nicholas Smith
HF: Ben McGlynn, Sam Reid, Josh P. Kennedy
F: Jarrad McVeigh, Adam Goodes, Ryan O'Keefe

Grigg is 190cm, so the backline's not actually that short. Having said that, I'd rather have Astbury in than McGuane(which probably comes as no surprise to anyone) and Webberley in for Farmer who should have been dropped after his last 2 weeks. From the possible interchanges I'd definitely leave out Tuck and Miller, and I'm not sure about the third (preferably one or both of the two mentioned who unfortunately are in the starting lineup :P
-
Good call on Hilop and well done to him, he has been called up because of the "Hardwick way" he plays his footy. I would love to see him play a bit of insperational footy against the Swans!!!
-
SYDNEYS back six and defence is very strong
we need to somehow open them up and give jack space and as many one on ones as possible
-
Good to see them giving BrownE another go - they gave Gus what 7 weeks. lead they can offer BrownE the same
Can't see Miller, Batchelor being ommitted.
I reckon Tucky will be lucky to play, ditto Astbury
I suppose we will have a fair idea on Saturday arvo seeing that's when Coburg plays ;D
-

More like 2 years
Gus :outtahere
-
IMO you don't need three tall forwards at the SCG as CHF gets bypassed most of the time. Jack and Vickery is enough and both more mobile and agile than a Miller. I'd rather Astbury ahead of Miller as Dave can play at either end as needed.
I don't see Jacko, Tucky and Hislop in the same side either with their imprecise footskills.
Farmer is very lucky. I know teamsheets these days means nothing but not sure why Mitch is named in a FP either.
Edwards in for Helbig.
-
I would love to see Webberley have a game. :thumbsup
-
I don't think Farmer is safe either
Just because he's been named in the 18 doesn't mean they can't drop him
3 have to go whether they are flicked from the extended bench or the 18 it doesn't really matter ;D
-
im hoping for:
Out: Miller, Tuck, Farmer
In: Astbury, Hislop, Edwards

cmon man hes not a backman and he wont spend much time there. plus why give him a running defenders role when his foot skils are just average at best. hes not accountable and you can add newman houli and deledio into that boat.
i really have to wonder what the hell is going on down there.
look up forward just jack and vickery after that its the land of the midget minus polish.yep 4 smalls and not one who you can call classy. what the stuff is going on.
-
Honestly if Farmer does play and he has another terrible game it will be a shocking disgrace! He had shocking poor form at Coburg before he was named for Richmond, and he's had two absolutely terrible games for Richmond. He is no star that is returning from injury as he's been an ordinary performer at best. This situation has the ability to bring unrest to the whole playing group.
Why do we need another forward line midget? If we play him as a small defender the Swans small forwards will have a field day!
Proven stars aside, nobody should be granted games with a record like his.

Yep, Astbury very capable of not getting the ball at either end of the ground
-
Gourdis has played fairly well for Coburg from most reports and Astbury has been average, but Astbury sneaks onto our extended bench and Gourdis is named on the bench for Coburg. Unreal.Gourdis is gawn
-
Gourdis is gawn
You'd think.
-
Gourdis played well against Collingwood and was named in the best. Why is he on the Coburg bench? Would rather Tuck in than Hislop. Tuck has a proven track record Hislop doesn't Someone needs to curb influence of Bolton
-
Astbury was not convincing against Collingwood whatsoever. Looked completely out of his depth at times. Confidence must be down.
Gourdis was a lot better. His rebounding out of the back line was almost Rance like in taking the game on. The kicks I saw also were pin point over 40-50 metres.
-
Astbury and Gourdis are almost exact opposites:
Astbury positions himself very well, follows structures and thinks how he is going to get the ball, unfortunately at this stage he just doesn't get it, when he does his disposals are usually good but conservative
Gourdis positioning is often wrong and and he thinks less about structures, but wins 90% of 1 on 1 contests and keeps finding the ball
when he does his disposals can be erratic but also exceptional he has hit 7 targets inside his forward 50 this year resulting in 6 goals
One thinks one does, a combination of the 2 would be good

I think we'll miss Batchelor poise and desposal off the half back. I'm not sure if Astbury can offer this to the same degree. I'm happy with the inclusion of Edwards and Hislop deserves a go. Just hope Sloppy can lift our contested possession count.
-
stuff me, give Webberley a game. Farmer and Miller were both pathetic against Port
-
Is it just us, or are they too close to the action to see that Miller and Farmer are whack?
-
im hoping for:
Out: Miller, Tuck, Farmer
In: Astbury, Hislop, Edwards
Got your wish with the ins Willy B :thumbsup
Clearly Dimma loves Farmer and as JT said , Astbury getting a gig ahead of Gourdis is writing on the wall. Gourdis has been clearly better at VFL level recently
-
Only surprise for me with the outs is Batchelor
Tuck & Helbig are both non surprises but Batchelor certainly was - would've flicked Farmer first
-
would've flicked Farmer first
Yeh maybe ? jury is out for me. The MC see things we don't with him I reckon. When he's fit he gets picked.
-
Farmer can kick the footy, problem is he handballs too much. He's goto back himself in and bang it in long to the goalsquare.
-
why is Batchelor out?
-
why is Batchelor out?
I thought maybe a rest, but after the bye?
-
match ups
-
Will be interesting to see if Jakc gets up for the Swans, he'd take Cotchin I reckon
-
Hardwick has lost it.
Farmer, Edwards, Hislop, King, Nahas, Foley, White all smalls.
Foley, Nahas, King and White should be the only smalls in our team.
The rest are weak, have no skill and are dumb.
None of them are going to win us a final!
-
Hislop aint a small dude
-
Hislop aint a small dude
can tell you, was standing beside him recently, he aint tall

He's no giant but he's got a big body on him.

Not sure of your conversions there Smokey.
182cm is under 6 foot.

Sorry '65, my bad. :-[ 183 is 6 foot, 185 is almost 6'1". I still think my question is valid though, 6 foot is not small in any AFL team.
-
Farmer has been terrriblllle - may cost us the match this move - stay tuned.
-
Yes it is. When you are drafting a mid you want him to he 6"2. Deledio. Ryan griffin are good size. Times have changed I think conca was the same size as jack dyer??

in a perfect world you'd rather 2-3 extra mid siZE types.
White and farmer too many smalls long term with the rest of them.

why is white too small? he hardly ever looses a one on one contest for the ball.

Ok, I'll bite. Why stop at 6'2"? I would prefer all my mids to be 6'6" minimum - no stopping those goliaths hey? And going back to the original point, Conca and Cotchin should have been included in the "too many smalls" argument then? And I guess Dane Swan, Dale Thomas, Sharrod Wellingham and Heath Shaw are too many "smalls" for Collingwood? And Geelong must be lucky to get away with carrying so many smalls - Josh Hunt, James Kelly, Joel Selwood? Mathew Boyd, Daniel Giansiracusa, Shaun Higgins, Mark Le Cras, Mathew Priddis, Paul Bevan, Jude Bolton, Daniel Hannebery, Jarrad McVeigh and the list goes on. Wonder how on earth any of these clubs manage to win games with such a bevy of "smalls" rotating through the midfield? Pity the poor player under 6 foot, obviously no place for them in today's midfield.
Crock of crap. A good player is what you want to draft, regardless of height.
-
Hislop aint a small dude

yeah but you're a massive pr... ;) ;D
-
Farmer has been terrriblllle - may cost us the match this move - stay tuned.
I really dont get this Farmer thing. He's been a plodder at best for coburg then got elevated ahead of players like webberley who have been in the bests regularly, has been WOEFUL at senior level and they still keep him in - at least drop him and bring him back when hes bloody fit. Absolute joke he's in the squad
-
why is white too small? he hardly ever looses a one on one contest for the ball.
the Irishman made him look like a women in that 1v1 contest on hbf.
-
If I was talking a crock of crap a fortunato caruso. Duel tac BF winner would have got drafted first round, or got drafted in general. Being the best football but by and large too small.
Conca and cotchin are classed as mid siZe not tall mids but not short like your white. Nahas. Hicks. Etc types. It's easier to get drafted at 185cm ish than less 180

Played well on Sunday. One of our best. Missed a heap of training and now he's getting fit. Kicks the cover off it and the MC seem to like him.

And if Fort Caruso had been a younger mid in today's draft then I've got no doubt he would have been picked and most likely succeeded. All clubs have learnt some valuable lessons in looking at those in the 2nd tier comps that didn't quite fit the mould come draft time. Took the blinkers off is what they have done, something that others might need to do.

So one incident against a player who also hardly loses a one on one contest makes my statement wrong?

what has changed from today to the time fort was overlooked in the draft/s?

He lost more than one 1-on-1 on Sunday ;D

didnt loose too many as he didnt get involved in many at all ;D

The clubs weren't looking too deeply at the 2nd tier players until the last couple of years. A hell of a lot of good players never got the chance because of that short-sightedness. Just like disregarding mids because they are too short.
