The Richmond WA Supporters’ Group is holding a special pre-game function in Perth, before next Sunday’s Round 20 clash with the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco.
Tiger icon, Dale Weightman, will host the luncheon function at Black Toms, which is situated at 27 Ord Street, West Perth. ‘Flea’ will be joined by a panel of guests, including his former teammates, fellow 1980 premiership star, Rob Wiley, Peter Wilson and Michael Mitchell, along with the Club’s current General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.
Cost of the function, which will run from 11.30am-2pm, is $95 per head, including a top two-course meal, beer, wine and soft drinks.
There will be an auction held throughout the function, with a signed Richmond football, signed guernsey and an outdoor setting (donated by “Furniture Options”) up for grabs.
To purchase tickets, please contact wa@rfcsupportergroup.com.

Tigers can rise like Eagles, says Richmond midfielder Daniel Jackson
AAP
From: Herald Sun
August 02, 2011 12:57PM
RICHMOND tagger Daniel Jackson takes inspiration from West Coast as he predicts the Tigers' own rise from strugglers to contenders is imminent.
The 25-year-old will play his 100th AFL game against the fifth-placed Eagles in Perth on Sunday, having been part of just 29 wins, and no finals, in his previous 99.
With the in-form Eagles having won seven of their past eight games and the 13th-placed Tigers having lost seven of their past eight, Richmond will start a rank outsider.
But, given they comfortably won the teams' most recent meeting, when Jack Riewoldt booted 10 goals against the wooden spoon-bound Eagles at the MCG last year, Jackson takes hope from West Coast's rapid climb since.
"West Coast are going to hopefully play top four, hopefully for them, because they're playing good footy," Jackson said today.
"They're a club that's shown what you can do in 12 months.
"They struggled a bit last year and they've completely turned it around this season.
"So that's one of those clubs we can look at and actually take something from."
Jackson had no doubt the Tigers could make similar strides.
"I'm more confident now than for the whole time I've been at the club," he said.
"We've got the right people and there's something I've picked up over the years - if you get the right people with the right character, they're going to find a way to get the job done.
"That's what we've got at the moment, they are young and they're a bit inexperienced, but we're all striving in the same direction and it's just a matter of time."
Jackson said Richmond had plenty to play for still this season, despite their ladder position and recent form, with their focus having always been skewed towards the longer term.
He downplayed his personal milestone, although he said he had always doubted he would reach 100 games, as he viewed himself as a player who had to "grind" through his career, rather than star.
"That's what I pride myself on doing. If I play another 50 games like that, I'll be very happy with my career."

AFL site predicting the Eagles by 45 points..
SUMMARY
With seven wins from its last eight matches and a near full-strength squad to choose from, West Coast's 25th year celebrations this week could hardly have come at a better time.
The club will launch its Hall of Fame at a function on Friday night before facing Richmond, the club it beat by 14 points in its first AFL match in 1987, at Patersons Stadium on Sunday.
It is expected to be a one-sided encounter, as much because of West Coast's recent form as the Tigers' current woes, with Damien Hardwick's team losing seven of its last eight matches.
A bye and the drama surrounding Melbourne this week has taken the microscope off the Tigers, but since their last win, against the Brisbane Lions in round 13, they have been as bad as any team.
That five-game period has seen them lose to Melbourne (27 points), Carlton (103), Essendon (39), Gold Coast (15) and Geelong (62), slipping to 13th place on the ladder.
West Coast is in fifth place, and a soft draw has them well placed to end the season in the top four, earning a valuable double chance in September.
John Worsfold's team let the Western Bulldogs back into the game last week after holding a 50-point lead in the second quarter, but ruckman Dean Cox came to the rescue, taking two clutch marks and kicking the game-sealing goal.
QUESTION MARKS
How does West Coast now manage its players who have shown signs of fatigue at different stages of the last month? The team is still winning, so does the match committee tamper with the mix and give players a rest, or charge head on into September with its best 22 regardless every week?
On selection, how do the Tigers attack their last five games with finals well and truly out of the equation? Captain Chris Newman will miss the next month with a knee injury, but nobody is demanding his place in the team.
Can West Coast avoid a mid-game slump? Third quarters have been an issue for the best part of six weeks, again losing the premiership quarter against the Bulldogs by three goals.
PREDICTION
West Coast by 45 points

Sportal is expecting us to be flogged by the Eagles as payback for last year :-\.
WE THINK:
Back in 1987, West Coast produced their first win in the then VFL, defeating Richmond by 14 points. It's no surprise then that the Eagles are using this week's clash with the Tigers to mark the club's 25th anniversary as they launch their Hall of Fame on Friday night. Apparently there's even going to be a Birthday Cake bake-off that Glen Jakovich will judge, although I suspect Scotty Cummings may have been a better candidate for the role.
However, the last time these two sides played, it was one of the darkest moments in West Coast's proud history. Just a week after giving Geelong a fright at home, the Eagles were humiliated by the Tigers at the MCG as Richmond recorded just their second win of the season at the time. West Coast kicked a few late ones to make the score look vaguely respectable but they still allowed Jack Riewoldt to boot 10, while midway through the second quarter, Dean Cox could clearly be heard on an effects microphone imploring his team-mates to put in by saying, 'we're embarrassing ourselves here'.
How the worm turns in just over 12 months. Now it's the Tigers looking to West Coast as inspiration for them to turn their fortunes around. But do you think Coxy and his mates have forgotten what happened to them that Sunday at the 'G? I don't think so and even if the Eagles are without some frontliners like Kennedy, Naitanui, Waters and Butler, they still have some serious quality on the field, playing a disciplined brand of strategic footy that has put them on the verge of finishing in the top four just a year after claiming the wooden spoon.
I can't see Riewoldt, down on form over the last few months, repeating the 10-goal dose with Darren Glass and Eric Mackenzie minding him, while Cotchin, Deledio and Dustin Martin will need all their wits about them to defy the Eagles' relentless pressure. And, while Kennedy is a big loss, the undermanned Richmond defence, one that will be badly missing their skipper's organisational skill, has to somehow contain Quentin Lynch, Jack Darling, Mark Nicoski and Mark LeCras. Although West Coast's second halves have been a bit dodgy the last few weeks, it all seems way too big a task for the out-of-form Tigers even if they've had a week off to catch their breath.
Eagles by 40 points.

Wonder where Jackson thinks we'll get the 5-6 senior premiership players to help the turnaround :wallywink
At least half will come through the coming draft and some more the next year. Our 1st pick will probably be ready to play and we definately should get a ruckman in a trade and hopefully another is the psd. The other picks we get probably won't be ready made to play all season but they'll get games here and there next year. The final 1/3 of our list we need to remove will be gone after next season 8)

* It's going to be very difficult for us but the bye came at a good time and we're pretty confident coming into the game.
* We haven't played to the level we are capable of. If we can win 2-3 of our last 5 it'll give us a heap of confidence going into the preseason.
* Run and spread has been down. Impacts both offensively and defensively. A lot of hours on the track working on this.
* Doesn't know too much about Jake King's situation but he handles these off-field things very well.
* Dea is a terrific size for a half-back. Core of his defensive game is very good. Will play on Nicoski. Still has things to learn but he's got to start somewhere.

It's our lack of midfield depth. We are too easy to shut down because our 2nd/3rd tiers are rubbish passengers with their constant turnovers.

I'm not usually an umpire bagger, it's not just the free kicks in front of goal. The Miller one where some guy took out his legs, the Tuck holding the ball where an Eagles player had the ball in his hands and stuffed it back into Tuck and Nahas on the boundary getting tripped.

They certainly need to take a look at the kamikaze tactic of diving head first into players shins and being rewarded with a free. If you dive at the legs of the oncoming player then a knock to the head is a risk you are willingly accepting. In Millers case how the hell could the free be avoided, he pretty much had to vapourise on the spot :banghead

The other issue that is plainly obvious today is we have no core senior group, most other teams have an experienced group of talented players who nurture the younger players along the way. We don't have this, basically our senior group are players who would most likely struggle to get on the interchange bench for any other club. Makes it very difficult when the pressure is applied as is the case today to actually fight through it, younger players will tend to just fade into the background, problem is that leaves no one in the foreground. :'(
-
The umpiring hasn't helped. Been some soft goals for WC and we are not getting our due. Nic Nat is a friggen star. Dea can play. Miller is representing today too. I think the score isn't doing us justice. I hope we don't go scared rabbit defensive and come home with some hard pressure on them. Anyone see the slow mo replay and one of our players was being held just off the ball in a choke hold LOL stuffing umpires ignored it.

He pays frees for going near any WC player ... our blokes get tripped, put in full nelsons, eff me dead...
-
A dumb free and 50m penalty and we hand back momentum to the Eagles and two goals.
Rushed point to us
Rich 59
WC 103
Must be 7 goals to nil in red-time too.
-
Nice goal by lids
-
Lids!!!! Goal
-
Martin good play to Lids on the run for a great goal. All class! :gotigers
Rich 65
WC 103
-
Graham - it just looks so bad when he takes his eyes off the ball.
Nahas - too small
King - getting where the ball isn't
Grigg - needs to learn what effort means
Jack - no core strength and can't jump, gotta be injured
McGuane - we have to have someone who can take his place next week, surely
-
Rance giving Dea as spray .don't waste your time Alex
-
We've actually matched them in scoring shots this qtr.
Cotch finds Jack on the lead. Goal from 5om :gotigers
Rich 71
WC 110
-
Cotchin, making the extra effort to get into the game. Trying to show some leadership
-
Another terrible, terrible umpiring decision.
-
LOOK AT THAT stuffing poo. WHAT A JOKE
-
Nahas executes the perfect run down tackle pulls him down so he is still upright and somehow gets pinged for in the back. Tell me something doesn't stink.
-
Houli free for high plus 50m. Set shot goal :gotigers
Rich 77
WC 110
-
They can complain all they like but it is about time we caught a break with the umpiring!
-
Houli is stuffing awesome!!!! He set that goal up for Jack with pure courage.
-
Good hard work by TV. Edwards to Jack and marks on the siren. Goal :gotigers
3/4 time
Richmond 4.1 6.2 13.5-83
West Coast 5.2 11.6 17.8-110
Goals: Riewoldt 3, Vickery 2, Miller 2, Deledio, Morton, Tuck, King, Nahas, Houli

-
Well fought Tiges :thumbsup
Lets run home hard in the last. Jack fighting back and Graham jumping in the ruck today :lol
-
Because I havent seen much of the game over the last 45 minutes how has our defence gone. In particular the likes of Rance and Dea.
-
That last bit was really the sort of stuff that can lift a side. Very exciting. Games not dead.

Possies:
Lids 23
Tuck 23
Martin 21
Foley 19
Morton 16
Cotch 15
Grigg 15
Rance 15
Edwards 14
Houli 13
Jacko 13..... subbed off 3rd qtr inj.
Jack 12
Dea 11
Vickery 11
Miller 11
Nahas 9
Thursty 9
McGuane 8
King 7
Farmer 6
Graham 5
Conca 2 ..... subbed on 3rd qtr.
Possies: 12 down.
Inside 50s: 28 - 43
Tackles: 42 - 58
-
I like what I have seen of both Dea and Rance. Rance got a bit frustrated with the umpiring but they have been rock solid. I reckon most of the Weagles scoring has been from free sodas, Nicosky being a stuff on the run and long range shots from sux cox.
-
Carn Cotchy pull the troops together and fire them up for a big last quarter ! :gotigers :gotigers
-
Because I havent seen much of the game over the last 45 minutes how has our defence gone. In particular the likes of Rance and Dea.
Rance very good; Dea apparently is on Nicoski who has kicked 4.
-
Disgraceful umpiring. He changed his mind to holding the ball free to us to a push to the Eagles. Lids saw it and gave the ump a spray which cost 50m.
Point to Eagles.

Eeep Cotch was limping...

don't worry we will get a heap of cheap frees in the last 10 minutes to even up the tally a bit. effing umps
-
pay the stuffing mark you umpire maggot prick
-
Im listening on SEN and they can't believe the umpiring... Im just stuffing yelling my head off right now
-
Can we actually kick it out of defence to the blokes wearing yellow and black :banghead. You need to run Richmond as you did in the 3rd qtr.
Clear mark to Tuck not paid ::).
3rd pt to the Eagles. We need to break out of here or they'll eventually get a goal. Nup we can;t and they do :scream.
83 - 119
-
Farmer - gee he looks slow
-
whats the ridiculous free kick count at now?
-
Another technical free to the Eagles for a push after the kick. 8th free in front of goal. LeCras misses though.
Rich 83
WC 121

Showing a bit of ticker at least.

Oh well just not supposed to be...I still think players like Cotch, Riewoldt, Deledio etc should be rested up, if we have injuries now we will be stuffed next year.
-
whats the ridiculous free kick count at now?

Rance tries to take them on and gets pinged for a throw. 9th free set shot at goal.

we pushing poo up hill with that sun right in our faces too.

One-way traffic this qtr. Our classier players haven't touched the footy.
Showing a bit of ticker at least.
Yep can;t knock the effort tonight. Just outclassed and outsized.

Foley long. Great mark Jack :clapping.
But misses everything :P

Would of been a good game sans the suckery with the umps.

Hurts when you miss at one end and the opposition run it up for a goal.

Dusty and Cotch haven't touched the ball this qtr. Once our 2nd tier passengers in the midfield stop it's simple for us to be totally shut down :scream.

We are just crap...no goals this qtr...what a load of crap, really having a dig just doesn't cut it I am afraid. We have been flogged week after week after week and it really poos me.
We are so far away from the rest it's not funny..

Take mcguane, farmer, foley and sgove things into their arses.....then sack them.
WHY TUCK HASNT BEEN PLAYED IS BECAUSE HARDWICK IS AS DUMB AS FRAWLEY!
-
oh here come the soft square up frees to make the books look kosher... Noone is fooled you maggot
-
Lucky they are missing with their goalkicking (4.7) otherwise they could have really blown out beyond 10 goals. Definitely Junk time.

what did Uncle Davey tell you? The maggots do it every bloody week the effing bastards.

hardwick has lost the players already........ :thumbsup
-
I actually thought Miller went good today!
Lids was good and TV went ok!
Gus took the mark of his career!
-
The margin was pretty much as expected if we are honest. The media will probably try to lob us in with the one-sided games but we tried for 3 quarters at least and just didn't have anything left in the tank in the last. Bag losses against crap sides like Port but tonight just showed the expected difference b/w the two sides. We know our many deficiencies and our players who aren't up to it and that wasn't going to be fixed over a bye break.
-
That is our 161st loss since 2000 ;)

Our injuries this year have slaughtered us too. We must have the most amount of games lost due to injury?

Have you seen the Dons injury list?
-

We would be better off admitting that we have about 12 blokes play today who'd struggle at VFL level rather than blaming injuries or even umpires IMHO
-
The trouble is we don't have any big-bodied runners to bring in. The small guys just get pushed off the ball or out of the way too easily. It doesn't matter how hard those small guys try.

Spot on Muscles. In any athletic collision sport you don't need to be a rocket science to understand bigger, stronger & faster is better.
There's also the problem of a lack of a mature core and leadership. The Eagles even when they tanked last year had many of their premiership core still on their list to rebuild around. This year Cox, Kerr, Glass and co. come back fully fit plus another year of experence in their younger players and up and away they've gone.
-
Cotchin choked as captain today.
Tuck for Captain.

Couldn't agree more MT, and unfortunately this is what is going to hurt us for a while to come :(
-
I reckon it is a good thing that we are down leading into the time of year when players get cut, rather than having a good run into the end of the season which gives them another year.
-
Nahas executes the perfect run down tackle pulls him down so he is still upright and somehow gets pinged for in the back. Tell me something doesn't stink.
I dead set cracked it big time over that one Owl. The umpiring was slowly frustrating me all evening, but that was the one that broke the camel's back. I punched the door and split the webbing on my knuckle.

Thats right, we have 12 players of vfl level standard playing because we have injuries! It is not the blokes who are injured that hurts us, it is their replacements!

the inferrence was that Tuck is a better the Cotchin. I dont think ANY AFL coach would EVER put Tuck ahead of Cotchin in any shape or form. If you think the same as no-name then maybe you should stick to the stupid WWE instead of footy.
WWE=Worlds Worst Entertainment

What his saying is Tuck is a better leader, some players are leaders & average footballers which Tuck is above average
Some players can be excelllent footballers but cant lead.

I think Cotchin is and will be a great leade. He should be the next captain of RFC.
Facts are the team is crap and he has NO help or ANY protection at all.
He is still young but he gets the main tag. We have soft players that wouldnt know the first thing about protecting mates.

what do you think of that B-boy?

Is David Cash a WWE wrestler????
-
Well if Hardwick was any coach ;D he would have had Tuck playing senior football when available to help teach & protect the players & lead the way.
Cant have players like Tuck who wins his own ball playing for Coburg. He is always one of 2 players who put the body on the line and got little credit for it. Kane Johnson was the other. Others are too clumsy & give away too easy frees, those are the ones l would chop the heads off.
-

Nonetheless i think its a personal reflection of the sad person that you are.
Maybe give your man Nase a call so you can spoon and discuss which club is going to take him off our hands, to propel them to premiership glory

Good to see Tuck rack them up again today. kicked a nice goal too. I hate umpires

Snip! We've had enough potty talk for one day.

Would like to see Tuck play forward in patches, as we all seen today, he is an awesome kick at goal
He can also take contested marks

Mark Robinson 10 things I don't like
"8. Umpiring (I)
Take your pick. Incorrect disposal, chase-down tackles either being called play on or in the back when players collapse their knees, the advantage rule, kicking in danger, deliberate out of bounds, tripping, straying too close to opposition when they have marked the ball, umpires umpires indicating free kicks the wrong way.
9. Umpiring (II)
West Coast 30, Richmond 14. Say no more."
-
Robbo mentioned the free kick count again on SEN just before - "Umpires had a poor weekend. It's only natural that they do get influenced by the crowd. 30-14 ..... Hmmmmm!"
-
How good was Tucks booming goal? I was stoked for the big ropey bastard, his kicking has definately improved. Whenever he is around contested ball, 9 times out of ten he is gonna rip it out and win it. Great to see him playing again and even better to see his disposals have become much more potent. He will be a headache for the opposition if he can keep this form.
-

Yeah great and we will probably try and trade him at the end of the year, I can see him at Collingwood with Krakour next year playing in a GF.... >:(
-
Watching this game ,the result doesnt surprise me at all.at this stage we are a class below the weagles.
sadly though i am again starting to believe that our problems go far deeper than just football.I think it doesnt matter who you bring into this organisation,be it judd, ablett, bartel, franklin,we will soon render them mediocre(lol).
I know this word has been done to death but i think it all comes back to culture of the organisation. And as hard as benny gayle has tried to change this i dont think he can do it on his own.Mediocrity is so embedded in this club that it will take one mighty effort to drag us out of this....At this stage we have a long way to go i fear.
-
it was never going to be a quick process either.

From the RFC site...
Darren Gaspar, who these days lives in his home state Western Australia, and is a part-time special comments man for radio station SEN, was a keen observer at Richmond’s Round 20 clash with the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco.
Notwithstanding the final margin, he is confident the Tigers are on the right track . . .
“The big difference between the West Coast Eagles and Richmond is that West Coast had a whole bunch of senior players, who were either injured or out of form last year, but are up and firing this season. Richmond just doesn’t have that depth of experience at the moment,” he said.
“It’s going to take time, but I think they have the right structures in place now to really build on, which is pleasing.
“The one area I noticed on the weekend where they fell down was the missed tackles, which basically comes down to the size of the bodies.
“Last year, a lot of West Coast’s senior players were out, and missed tackles were happening left, right and centre. But with another pre-season under their belts, the young Eagle players are just a bit stronger, a bit more aggressive with their tackles.
“Richmond is a year behind that. Next year the tackles will start sticking and they’ll become more competitive, especially around this time of year when everyone gets tired.
“Through the middle of the ground, if you’re missing those tackles at this time of the year, it just opens up a path through the forward line and you can’t do much about it. The defenders can’t read the ball, they don’t know where it’s coming from. Whereas, if those tackles stick, it makes the world of difference. “
