Cotchin and Rance quinella for mine and wouldnt be surprised to see Rance win it because he's been quite good most weeks.
-
hey RFCO, i was wondering why Shane Edwards won most improved last year. Sure he did improve, but the most startling improvement at the Tigs, and maybe in the entire competition, was clearly Jacky R. Went from nuthin to the Coleman Medallist.
-
Now I know it's not your fault Mr RFC_O
But seriously a Tuesday night? :banghead :banghead
Why the Club persists with putting these functions on in the middle of the week is staggering.. for memory this is probably the 6th year in a row it's been on mid-week
Also, is there any way we can guarantee that the paying customer will actually be the first ones to know the winner.
Rather than what happened last year with it being on the internet (HUN website for memory) before we had sat down for our main meal and me receiving a TXT meassage asking if the HUN's website was right? :banghead Sort of ruined the evening to be honest
-
Function cheaper to be held on a week night .Monday to Thursday you will find.yes the media knew about the winner during the afternoon

That was a Herald Sun journo jumping the gun, nothing we could do about that.
-
Nothing that can be done about a journo jumping the gun?
How about keeping the result quiet till its actually won?????????
As in, dont tell anyone.
Pretty sure that would be one way of preventing a journo "jumping the gun".
Personally i think the club jumped the gun in telling outsiders.

To someone who doesnt work with-in a football club I understand your thinking, but every football club or news outlet or company that has a breaking story all have embargoed news articles, it's standard practice.
We'd set an embargo time, as in "don't post until 10pm" and we sent it to multiple outlets, but the HS published it at like 7.30 by accident. You do embargoed stories so the story can break as the news happens, to get ahead of the game.
-

Have to disagree - the Club gave the journo the info who granted stuffed up but they still gave it out
But if the HUN can't follow pretty simple instructions then don't give out the info. As I said it wasn't fair on those who paid to be there...
It's just like the year before the winners were up on the RFC web-site while the votes from the final rounds were still being read out at the function..... :banghead :banghead
Sorry but having paid $180+ to be there I don't think it is too much to expect the people in attendance on the night to be the first oces to know who the winner is
Function cheaper to be held on a week night .Monday to Thursday you will find.
Well aware of the pricing structure at Crown Jack. I know exactly how it works ;) ;D
But IMHO that is still not a good enough reason for having it on a Tueday night and then charging folks $195 to attend. When other Clubs who do have theirs on a Friday or Saturday night don't even charge $195 a head
I appreciate you can't please everyone also understand they are trying to make a $$$ but a struth you can't have it both ways. $195 for a Tuesday night is a bit step IMHO

I'm not sure how we could have changed that, it's normal practice, every club does it, it just happened to be that they stuffed ours up. If we don't give them an embargoed article, it won't make the news/websites till maybe midnight if not later, people miss out on finding the result and it may not even make the papers the next day then our media department looks like they missed the boat. We just got unlucky.
We get really limited availability with dates. We didnt know if we were going to play finals or not so we couldn't book tentative dates until early July, its also the finals are being played on Friday night and we host events during those games too so our event calendar is pretty fully, Crown's is jam packed, we just get very few dates to choose from.
How they decide on the $195 I don't know, but I'm assuming it's to make sure we cover costs, they're not cheap obviously.
-
I would be great if on a Thursday night, then we only need a day to recover before the weekend.
If the Hun apologized and recognized it was an eff up then fair enough. If not, I'd say eff 'em......

Can I also say that it doesn't need to be at Crown - there are other venues. We never pack the place out partly because of the price we charged so why does it need to be at Crown :-\

Isnt there a large function room at Punt Rd within the new facility?
-
Isnt there a large function room at Punt Rd within the new facility?
No
-
Docklands would be an option
-
Isnt there a large function room at Punt Rd within the new facility?
No
Can I ask why one wasnt put in. When you build a multi million dollard facility surely you include a function room for say 500-600 people.
-
Isnt there a large function room at Punt Rd within the new facility?
Jack is wrong
Yes there is a function room at Punt road it's called the Social Club.
Remember it hosted the FTF dinner and comfortably seated 300 people and still had room for more. Personally I reckon it could cater for 350-400 without having people sitting on top of one another
But for a B&F it isn't big enough when you are aiming for 500-800 people or hopefully one day 1000 like the Pies get at Crown
The other thing too is the Social Club's Liquor License may not allow that many
-

Absolutely wrong Jack - see above ;D

can houli win most improved if he wasnt around last year?

spot on willy, and if jack had delivered on his promise to bring a table of people to the FTF night like he promised too he would have seen it with his own eyes. :shh
The function room holds about 500 people, its just not big enough to accomodate the demand for the best and fairest night.

Why not just double the cost. Make more profit from the higher entry price and lower your costs to boot.

its not only about profit, its about giving enough fans the chance to be there.

The battle to be best man
Matt Windley
From: Herald Sun
September 01, 2011
MATT WINDLEY nominates your club's B&F winner and the main dangers...
RICHMOND
Jack Dyer Medal
WHEN: Sept 13
2010: Jack Riewoldt
THE CONTENDERS
TRENT COTCHIN: Damien Hardwick has stressed that improvement is the key at Richmond. He must be impressed by the development of a future captain.
BRETT DELEDIO: Another outstanding season. Again leads the club for disposals and ranking points and is every chance to win his third best-and-fairest in four seasons.
DUSTIN MARTIN: On fire early with four 25+ possession games and 10 goals up to Round 6. Has 31 goals and an average of 22 possessions.
OUR TIP - COTCHIN

yeah that's what I am expecting the reult will be
However, as I said earlier in this thread, the paying patrons should be the first to know not people reading the HUN web-site
And BTW last year I couldn't turn the phone off because we had a family member quite ill at the time - we were sort of on call

I can see where you are coming from, and rightly so, the paying patrons should be the first to know, and then the HUN should push the 'Publish' button.
In any case enjoy the night, and if you can, turn off your phone just in case ;)

We'll see dude. Houli still has a pea heart. I probably should've put Vickery in there somewhere. Maybe in pea heart's spot ?
-
I thought so too but he's been harder since early in the season. I wanted him shot for a contest he shirked against....Essendon I think ;D but since then he's been unreal. Vickery for Kingsleys spot
-
1. Cotchin
2. Deledio
3. Nahas
4. Rance
5. Houli
Best first year player Bachelor
Most improved Rance.
-
Where there any penalties handed out to the Herald Sun for going early with the info?
Working at a retail store we recieved goods weeks in advance before release date and had embargo stickers of $5k fines for the individual who sold any embargoed merchandise.
Surely some penalty was handed out otherwise its pointless having these restrictions in place.

2. Deledio
3. Nahas
4. Rance
5. Houli
6. Martin
7. Vickery

Kingy will be close to the top up to round 10 before falling away.

Best RFC player at Coburg: Tuck
Best clubman: Newman
-
Can't make the Jack Dyer? No biggie, we got you covered!
Live webcast AND chat tomorrow night:
http://tige.rs/jackdyerlive for full details
-
As long as you don't announce the winners on the interent net until after they've been announced at the event ....
I've paid to be there I expect (rightly) to know the winner before it's broadcast it on the club's web-site
BTW I am not talking about the HUN leaking it either ... 2009 the results were ont he RFC web-site as the votes from the final round were being read on the night....
And yes I am like a dog with a bone over this .. bloody expensive bone at $195 a head
-
Can you also webcast the delistings 1 minute after the medal is announced?
-
The Club will have to let the media know before the official announcement so it gets into the following morning papers. The issue is whether the idiots at the Herald-Sun will put the article up the net and where the public can access it.
Can you also webcast the delistings 1 minute after the medal is announced?
:lol
-

Well is it really that important whether it makes the Weds or Thurs papers?
Fact is with finals on it will barely rate a mention anyway. Avid Tiger fans who want to know the result know where to find it.
In the olden days they used to count the votes in the club secretaries office and send the winner a telegram, :lol

Hopefully we do :thumbsup.
-
Gary is currently talking about the passing of David Mandie. If you don't know of David, he was our #1 ticket holder and kept the club going in some dark times, he was a life long fan and helped the football club for over 50 years.
He will have his name placed on the new facility at Punt Road Oval. We will also award the "David Mandie Outstanding Community Achievement Award". A great honour for a great man
A great story being told now, where David Mandie, at the age of 90, bought a 100 year RFC membership. A great man!
-
Legend!!

Video is back but still buffering a lot :P.

Yeh and we'd all like to break into the 8
-
Dimma is now taking to the stage for his speech.
Dimma watched the finals on the weekend...and wants to get this footy club back to where we belong!
Dimma is currently talking about the new partnership with Athletes Performance. The elite training facility group in the US - we're going overseas.
Dimma has just said "Blair and Craig, the pressure is on, we must get better and get better quickly." - we need to add more raw talent to our existing talent.
Dimma is excited for the upcoming development of Conca, Batchelor and Derrickx. "Our footy club has become a place of elite character. We will not tarnish the Richmond Football Club name"
I think Dimma said don't underestimate how important Chris Newman is to this footy club.
Foley's workrate is a great example to our young players especially those overcoming injuries. It's amazing what you can learn from a competitor and it's great to have him back.
"I want to thank the Tiger Army for the on going support of this footy club. This club has a support base that is the envy of so many other clubs. And guarantee, you got us victories when we didnt deserve it at times."
Dimma - "Competition promotes greatness and that is what we will have next year"
-
Got video and audio now, you have to update silverlight on your flash viewer.
If using google chrome: refresh page, wait for silverlight to appear on flash screen, click update and refresh- wallah!!
-
Milestone players are now being presented to the players. Milestone represents first game players and milestone players.
All the debutantes including Grigg/Houli. And the milestone players for 50 100 and 150 games this year.
Video now being shown of the first 9 rounds of the 2011 season
-

Very good effort by the newbies - Conca, Batch and Grimes (60 votes in just 1/3 of a season)
Breakout years for TV, Rance and Houli.
You can see why we are chasing a ruckman though.
-
Gourdis and O"Reilly the only ones that played that never got votes.
Even Hislop chipped in for a few, LOL
Your man got 25 :lol
-
Surprised Newman was so low.
Jackson what a terrible year.
Newy missed roughly the last 1/4 of the season. He would've easily finished top 10 if he played all 22 games.
Jacko - just more evidence he should be traded.
-
Gourdis and O"Reilly the only ones that played that never got votes.
Even Hislop chipped in for a few, LOL
Your man got 25 :lol
Yep, Hislop got 8, ::)
-
What about the delistings? I thought Craig Willis was going to read them out at 10 31pm :lol
-
what's the medal for 3rd place called?
-
Foley finishing 8th after basically two years injured is a great effort also btw. He should be better next year with another full preseason under his belt.
Apart from the cubs there'll be some nervous players outside of the top 20 who won't be at Tigerland come the end of October.
-
what's the medal for 3rd place called?
Maurie Fleming Medal

Cotchin captures Jack

Young gun midfielder Trent Cotchin has won the 2011 Jack Dyer Medal.
Cotchin became a first-time Jack Dyer Medallist with a decisive victory in tonight’s Richmond Best and Fairest count, held in the Palladium Ballroom at Crown.
He polled 236 votes to defeat two-time winner, Brett Deledio, who finished on 203 votes, with Dustin Martin third on 198 votes. Bachar Houli, 181 votes, and Ty Vickery, 161 votes, rounded out the top five place-getters.
At just 21, Cotchin is the same age as Deledio was when he won his first Jack Dyer Medal in 2008, making him one of the youngest Best and Fairest winners in Tigerland’s history.
Cotchin took the lead in the count after Round 4, briefly lost it to Martin soon after, but then held sway for the remainder of the voting.
The Jack Dyer Medal triumph capped off an excellent season from Cotchin, who played all 22 home-and-away games for the first time in his four-year AFL career, and was inspirational throughout with his hard work and creativity in the Tigers’ midfield.
Cotchin was ranked No. 2 at the Club for total disposals, with 530, at an average of just over 24 per game. On 17 occasions, he had 20 disposals or more, with a career-high 38 v Geelong at Etihad Stadium in Round 18.
He was ranked No. 1 at the Club for clearances (135), No. 1 for inside-50 entries, and also hit the scoreboard, finishing with 18 goals for the season.
Deledio maintained his fine Jack Dyer Medal showing of recent years, with his second placing this year, following his third placing in 2010, and his back-to-back success in 2008-09.
The 24-year-old again managed to play all 22 games, reaching the 150-game milestone in the final round of the season. Remarkably, he has missed just four games out of a possible 154 in his seven-year league career at Richmond.
Deledio was ranked No. 1 at the Club in the total disposals category, for the third year in-a-row, with a career-high 563, at an average of 25.5 per game. He had 20 disposals or more 18 times during the season and was ranked No. 1 at the Club for rebound-50s (82) and No. 4 for inside-50s (85).
Martin had a major impact in just his second season at the game’s highest level, combining powerful midfield work with potency in attack for the Tigers.
The 20-year-old was rewarded for his efforts by finishing one place higher in the Jack Dyer Medal count this year than his fourth placing on debut in 2010.
He was ranked No. 3 at the Club for total disposals, with 486, at an average of 22.09 per game, collecting 20 disposals or more 15 times.
Martin was ranked No. 2 at the Club for inside-50s (93), No. 2 for goal assists (20), No. 3 for goals (33) and No. 4 for clearances (82).
Houli had a significant impact in his first season at Richmond after joining the Club from Essendon at the end of last year.
The 23-year-old helped set up many scoring opportunities for the Tiger team during the season with his long, clearing dashes out of defence and spearing left-foot kicks.
He played all 22 games and was ranked No. 4 at the Club for total disposals, with 478, at an average of 21.73 per game. On 13 occasions, he had 20 disposals or more in a match.
Houli was ranked No. 1 at the Club for total marks (127) and No. 4 for rebound-50s (68).
Vickery had a breakout season of AFL football in 2011.
The 200cm 21-year-old spent most of the season on the Tigers’ forward line, where he proved a huge handful for opposing defences with his height, marking prowess and all-round footy ‘smarts’.
He was ranked No. 5 at the Club for total marks (95), No. 2 for contested marks (29), No. 2 for goals (36) and No. 2 for hit-outs (156).
The voting system for the Jack Dyer Medal is, as follows . . .
After each game, the five members of the Club’s match committee cast votes for each of the team’s 22 players.
Each player receives zero to five votes from each coach, so the most an individual player can poll in a match is 25 votes.
Five votes are awarded for an outstanding performance, four for an excellent game, all the way down to zero if the player is well beaten on the day.
Following is a list of the top 10 vote-getters in the 2011 Jack Dyer Medal:
2011 Jack Dyer Medal
1st Trent Cotchin 236 votes (Jack Dyer Medal winner)
2nd Brett Deledio 203 (Jack Titus Medal winner)
3rd Dustin Martin 198 (Maurie Fleming Medal winner)

Who finished 7th? Isn't it Foley? If Rance and Nahas tied in 6th place, doesn't everybody else default up a spot? That way, Newman finishes in the top 10.

great night as usual
Different to ther years IMHO.
Hardwick has raised the bar in no uncertain terms on the whole club from administrators coaches and players, they all need to improve as finals won't just happen we have to earn it.
Was very impressed.
Vickery really could become richmonds most important player, and thats saying something.
-
A few things from the night:
Highlights:
* have to say the speech of David Mandie's gandson Matthew was sensational, a quality young man :thumbsup
* Cotch winning obviously :clapping
* Bachar Houli's acceptance speech - class act
* Alex Rance winning the Frances Bourke Award - so totally deserved :clapping :clapping
* The main course was great :clapping :rollin :rollin
The did he say what I think he said moment:
* Appreciate it is hard to exclude someone when you are talking about a group but when praising the entire leadership group & talking about "Strong leadership" Dimma having to include Dan Jackson after his numerous brainfades and ill discipline acts was ... well for me at least cringe worthy....sorry
-
did l give you the result early enough WP ;D

Dylan Grimes, 60 B&F points in 7 AFL games. :clapping :clapping Now that is an amazing performance! If he didn't get injured and kept up that form for the rest of the season, at an average 0f 8.7 points per game, he would have ended up in 4th spot with 188 points.

Using this as a guide our best 22:
Batchelor. Grimes. Post.
Conca. Rance. Dea.
Nahas. Cotchin. Houli.
Newman. Griffiths. Grigg.
Vickery. Reiwoldt. King.
Derickx. Deledio. Martin.
Foley. Tuck. Asbury. Edwards.
* Derickx. Griffiths. Astbury. Post. Not in the best side going by vote count but given a spot due to clubs needs, potential and injury career thus far.
I would include emg of browne. Helbig. Orielly due to age. Macdonald yet to debut.
This leaves us with the inbetweeners:
(shorts) - Jackson. Farmer. White. Morton. Connors. Webberly. Nason.
(talls) - mcgaune. Miller. Thursfield. Graham. Gourdis (delisted?)
That is the group of dozen or so that RFC need to trade. Delist. Or improve if we are going to be good 2012 / 2013
