Title: Dimma's birthday surprise lol
Post by: one-eyed on August 18, 2011, 03:09:55 PM
Dimma turned 39 today and while in the middle of his press conference, the players lead by Jack holding a cake busted in and sang happy birthday lol. Jack said something like "Happy 50th old man!"  :lol

Hardwick - "They're a terrific group. I've got to give them credit. One thing they do is they're always upbeat and that's the great thing about coaching this group. They're a terrific bunch of fellas."

Title: Jack Riewoldt's stunt takes the cake (Herald-Sun)

Jack Riewoldt's stunt takes the cake

    Ben Pollard
    From: Herald Sun
    August 18, 2011 4:11PM

A BIRTHDAY cake may have improved Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt's season in Damien Hardwick's eyes.

During the week, Riewoldt rated his season no better than 65 out of 100. But after delivering his coach a cake on his 39th birthday at Punt Rd this afternoon, "Jumping Jack'' may have elevated his standing.

"It (his season) was probably a 60 before the birthday cake; 70 after,'' Hardwick said.

While Hardwick delivered the verdict in good humour, he was deadly serious about Riewoldt's impact in 2011.

"From a goals point of view, he has been down (56 goals; 78 in 2010) but his score assists have more than doubled since last year, so it depends on how you look at his season,'' he said.

"If we get 50 goals and 30-odd score assists out of Jack, I'd say that's a pretty good season.''

Hardwick said it wasn't all about scoring though, and at times Riewoldt hadn't been up to scratch defensively.

His troubles have been indicative of Richmond's up-and-down form; troubles that Hardwick said the Tigers just had to work through.

"The thing we've focused on is getting our defensive intensity back; it probably fell away over a four to stuff block,'' he said.

"The guys took it up a level last week (in the win over Sydney) and that eventually got us over the line.''

The coach hopes that intensity continues on Sunday against Melbourne, a team Hardwick hasn't beaten in his time in charge.

He said Jake Batchelor would be out for the season with shoulder injury, with VFL players Jeromey Webberley, Matt White and Jamie O'Reilly pushing for promotion.

If it was a previous Tiger coach the cake would've been thrown in his face lol. Clearly the boys are 100% on board Dimma's plan going forward.

A Real coach would have laid down the basis of whats required of his footballers so it would never have come to this.

I think a healthy relationship between players and coach is great for morale.

Yeah and Smorgan said that a grand final is the only thing that will get a pass mark. I thought Eade did ok considering the injuries he has faced. Unless Malthouse go there, i can't see them getting a good coach especially after saying that he thinks a rebuild is not neccasary.

I haven't seen so many horse poo posts in one thread in a long time! While we are at it, why don't we demand that the club song be banned after victories because we just don't deserve it.

I think most people have missed the point in regards to the birthday cake. It was not done to actually celebrate his birthday, it was done as a joke. Hence, " Happy 50th old man" from Jack.
I don't mind it as everyone complained that Wallace was not close enough to his players and had his favorites, Dimma is closer and still makes the tough calls such as subbing Jack when he hit his head ( although now i know a chorus of people will will now say Jackson should be dropped for ill discipline etc!).
I also don't mind if people think it is gay, each to their own, but a win hopefully tomorrow will put all those arguments to rest!

I dont agree with the way things have been done and still dont agree, disgrace that the club sold home games. re invent supporter groups that are failures etc 3121, The social club membership is also a joke.
And dont get me started on footy issues, eg signing of Mcgaune for 3 years, promotion of Hislop, you could go on and on
If its negative bad luck, the truth hurts sometimes,
Its laughable that Dimma comes out and says what a great group of players to coach
etc
REALITY IS THAT THEY ARE A POOR TEAM., great real Dimma

I dont know whether the club has made tuff decisions on not.The proof of the pudding wil be in the years to come. However we could do worse than look at how North and Doggies have been able to play finals football consistantly over the last 20 years whereas we have not.if we werent Richmond with a giant supporter base that has dug into their pockets twice in recent memory ,once to save the club and now to further the club,I fear we would have been dead and buried by now,or sitting on the gold coast somewhere.
I really do think that this current regime running the club (on field and off field) needs to get success,as otherwise i think the future for us might be fraught with upheaval, and all that this entails

Yep Lids thinks he is a bit of a comedian .supporters don't think it's funny that we are a failure as a club .we can't even match the likes of the western bulldogs and North in regards to finals appearance .might add.interesting culture at the dogs.don't make the finals, coach gone.he has only took them to finals 3 previous years.

Yeah, great culture.  57 years since their one and only premiership.  There's a winning culture right there.

if the western bulldogs made hard decisions, brad johnson would have been let go 3 yrs ealier and aker would not have been treted so bad

if the bulldogs made hard decisons, smorgan would have been gone last yr too

ffs bulldogs do not make hard decisons

Agree with that last sentence

Doggies made the easiest decision in the world this week because when faced with the truth Smorgon & Garlick didn't like it

They took the easy way out this week
