How can anyone look ""outside the square "' when you are continually going around in circles, there lies the problem ;)

He was pick 19 not pick 10. Very good player though. Hawthorn have a real knack of finding players. This year they have found some real stars in the making.

wants even better for the Hawks is when they bring a first year player up, he looks like and performs like a senior player. Puopolo is a perfect example. Add the pick ups of Hale,Cameron Bruce and Burgoyne shows they know what they are doing.
Injuries dont seem to have hurt the Hawks at all,

Mad Tiger is right though Jack, Bruce is for the tip.
What makes me laugh is we recruit alter boy duds like nason and Re rookie Hislop, they recruit Smith and Puopolo
-
Ha.Bruce will play finals footy this year.any tiger player would give there left testy to play finals
-
yeah, the hawks punted and probably paid off with that, under ordianry circumstances club should be cautious about investing a first R selection on a fella that has been overlooked in 3-4 drafts. By all means use r 2 or more but for mine Id generally go safe and use the early one on an untried colt...dont forget jim silvestor looked likely in first season also :o

Bruce is only playing because of Hawthorn's injuries. No guarantee he'll still be in their side come finals time.
Hawthorn over the past two drafts have topped up with experienced players - Burgoyne, Gibson and Hale - to their remaining 2008 premiership players who are back to their best (ie. Brad Sewell). That's what has made the difference. Guys like Smith and Poupolo are in their bottom 6 and so aren't expected to carry the load with the large number of senior experienced teammates around them. The kids they have drafted over the past two years have hardly played this year.
2009
Shaun Burgoyne gained for pick 9 and Mark Williams
Josh Gibson and pick 69 gained for picks 25 and 41
Let go Kennedy and McGlynn to the Swans in exchange for picks 39, 46 and 70.
N39. Sam Grimley (0 games)
N46. Benjamin Stratton (21 games in 2010, 3 in 2011)

N69. Taylor Duryea (0 games)
R13. Wayde Skipper (gone)

2010

N19. Isaac Smith (11 games)
N38. Mitchell Hallahan (0 games)
N55. Angus Litherland (0 games)
N66. Paul Puopolo (15 games)
PSD5. Cameron Bruce (7 games)
R19. Sam Menagola (0 games)
R36. Thomas Schneider (0 games)
R52. Derick Wanganeen (0 games)
The Hawks under Clarkson have certainly made North look like fools at the trade table when you think they gained first rounders for a washed up Hay and Nathan Thompson 5-6 years ago and in recent times gained Gibson and Hale on the cheap given what they are producing this season.

Pretty sure Suckling was pick 70 odd in 2009. Not sure why you would leave that out!!!! I guess it didn't suit?? Had an excellent year.
Also if you go back to the 2008 draft (so kids in just there 3rd seasons) they picked up a few in the draft that also have been pretty handy this year- Ryan Schoenmakers at pick 16, Liam Shiels at 34, Jordan Lisle at 50, Shane Savage at 75, and even Breust at 47 in the rookie draft. All of which have played a part in Hawthorn being where they are.
The improvement in the Hawks this year has been there kids, hardly there senior players.
