Title: Paul Roo's On The Couch
Post by: tiger101 on August 29, 2011, 11:00:20 PM
Did anyone catch it tonight?

I read on another forum by a support of another club that he was criticising us for not winning games when it matters and we always look forward to another year.

This is true but.....I feel that the last three wins have been allot more important than token late season wins from years gone bye...As a young club we have showed exactly what we can achieve! There is no turning back from here, we will make the eight next season, I feel it in my blood....(P.S I also might be peeed at the time of righting this statement)(PPS writing starts with W) Cheers :cheers

Im glad he said it because its true! Its a predictable cycle - they've bought themselves some goodwill with some spirited albeit meaningless wins after nearly losing it midseason and We look fwd to another year..
iIthink its safe to say next season is the litmus test. However the club has an ace up its sleeve - if we capitulate next season and the supporters go off,Dimma will be made the scapegoat, a new coach will be brought in and once again we'll be looking forward to the next year. Yep Im nostradamus  :lol

There does Daniel, but to expect it to be this year was a bit unrealistic.

Did you really expect the club to suddenly materialise as a genuine finals contender and sweep all before it this year.

so true TM.

you can see 2012 unfolding already before a ball is bounced.

finishing 9th would put more pressure on Dimma to get us into the 8. If we bottom out again and with a possible Malthouse lurking after a year off he will be in trouble.

For me top 8 finish is required in 2012, nothing more nothing less pushing for a top 4 in 2013, or Dimma and the club will have failed.

This year was to be a developing year and no one really thought we would finish 9th or close enough but we did so the stakes are higher now going into 2012.

Honestly look at clubs 6-17. On a good day who cant we beat out of that lot aside from Swans at the SCG and Freo over there.

Its all in their head and we lost those stupid games because players like Jack and co thought they were better than what they actually are. They thought be beating Essendon meant they are flying and no one could stop them

We might do the other thing Tony. Win 13 games make the finals give Dimma a 3 yr extension and not make the finals again until 2020. In the meantime Malthouse and every other coach get snapped up by poo clubs who will continue to flog us year in and year out.

wp, u must admit , for or five weeks ago we really didnt show improvement on last yr , we seemed to be slipping, but since then we resorted back to the long kicking game plan and look at the results. now we have improved , but if he had of finished the season in the form of 5 weeks ago, one would have questioned if we improved .

and u know im right ! lol

I've got to wonder if sometime in the distant past, maybe in Roosies' Fitzroy days, someone from the Tigers snotted him or otherwise rained on his parade big-time.  He's got something against us, in addition to our past poor culture, management and team ethos, and it comes out everytime he talks about us.

i think you pick certain parts of what he says and run with it.

You forget how much praise he had of Tuck and Cotch.

what part of what he said was rubbish. All true if you ask me

If Dimma and the team produces the goods next year that is good. If not maybe Roos could end up coaching us. Then we would see some fireworks!!

I believe that deep down you know the truth when you hear it and Paul Roos is 100% correct.

We all remember how well we finished in season 2008 and all that momentum dissipated by round 1 the following year.

As much as I have enjoyed the last 3 weeks, I will remain forever sceptical until we can perform against genuine quality.

Sad thing is it is TRUE - Massive year next year for this club. Must be 12 wins absolute minimum.

it had to be said, Im sure most of us will still be burning on how the season got away from us mid year...just what went wrong...

many sides, and in particular young sides, will have a form slump at some during the season, Bo.

When your base is as low as ours...well we saw the results of a form slump.

If anyone can definitively put their finger on why this happens they will be able to write their own salary package in the sporting world

I actually think Roos is spot on.
I think the most pertinent thing about us as a club was that he hoped for our sake that we aren't looking forward to the season next year as we have been for the last 30 years b/c of failure.

He also had alot of praise for Cotch and Vickery and some of our other kids.

Sustained success on field will change perception of those who have dished out punishment to us over the years.

spot on Tucker. Anyone who thinks Roos has some sort of hatred against us need to get off the shawitzi.

He acknowledges  good performances as you said and gives his opinion like he did last night.

I think Roos was spot on. The media and us supporters have had enough of promises of finals etc etc Time for action and thats a final 8 spot for me in 2012.

We can match it with most sides out of the 8. GWS, GC, Port, Buldogs, Dees, Adelaide, Freo, Ess, Sydney(Melb),

A finish outside the 8 is a failure IMO

Agree Tucker didn't think he comments were sinister in any way

Sadly for us they were pretty much spot on
