King, Nahas commit to Richmond
by Adrian Ceddia
2:59 PM Fri 09 Sep, 2011
Richmond has secured two of its most improved players at Punt Road for the next two seasons.
Jake King and Robin Nahas have both signed new contracts, keeping them at the Tigers until the end of the 2013 season.
King’s fifth season at Richmond produced 25 goals from 19 appearances, and an average of 11 possessions per match.
The 25-year-old has now played 75 games for the Tigers, and has reinvented himself as a forward, after spending the early part of his career in defence.
“Jake has become a very important player for us, particularly with his forward pressure and his ability to impact the scoreboard,” said Richmond General Manager of Football Craig Cameron.
“He has also developed his leadership skills enormously, and has been a strong influence on our developing playing list.”
Nahas enjoyed a breakout year in 2011, increasing his workload and becoming a vital member of the Richmond midfield, as well as a dangerous forward.
After two seasons as a small forward, the 23-year-old played every game this season, averaging 19 disposals, booting 29 goals (fourth at Richmond) and laying 94 tackles (third at Richmond).
“By his own admission, Robbie realised he needed to work on his fitness base during the pre season, to give his game an extra dimension,” Cameron said.
“It’s a credit to him that he has built his endurance to a point where he can impact matches further up the ground, as well as maintaining his effectiveness around goals.”
Richmond youngsters Alex Rance, Dylan Grimes, Reece Conca and Brad Helbig have also signed on with the Club in the last few months.

Good news I reckon, particularly Nahas.
-
Nahas deserved 2, King only 1 ... King didnt touch the footy in the last 3 months. Terrible decision re: King. Just crap list management IMHO.
-
Sort of "snuffs" out the rumour on the Lions stuff page about us offering Nahas & a pick for Mitch Clarke ;D
-
I'm ok with Kingy getting a couple of years. 20+ goals is a good return. Hopefully he can do that again in 2012 and 2013.
-
Agree with Ramps here.
King deserved only 1 with maybe a claus syaaing if he played 16 games next year he'd get an extention. 2 years for King is very generous.
Nahas well deserved 2 years.
-
Happy with both resignings.
You can't kill off all our older players, and kingy deserves 2 years. He's a leader and his best is as good as Nahas.

You cant be serious that you think that King is a leader. Now youre just taking the pee dooks :lol

Ok Rampy so he's not a leader ::) :lol
But I am happy he's with us for the next 2 years.

I'd be happier if he was with Western Sydney for a draft concession ;D
-
King may not be a true leader but he has set an example on how hard work can pay off. You only have to get one or two of the kids to take a leaf out of his book and it would be worth every cent of his new contract ;)
-
There may well be clauses which will void the second year if they dont play a certain number of games next year.
Similar to what they did with Tuck.
-
King deserved his two year contract from my point of view. Happy with Nahas also, he has come a long way this year which surprised. Hard work does pay off.

Totally agree.
Two years for King is silly stuff !
We just reward guys for 2 months of good footy.

I disagree, King has worked his butt of to go from a compleat spud to a half decent footballer. He plays a roll in the team and he plays it well enough to warrant another two years. Put it this way, good luck to the gut who is pressuring him for his spot, Kingy will sure make him earn it ;D

And it shouldn't be underestimated, going forward, how important that is.

Look at him go! ;D :bow

Just hitting my straps :-* :-* ;D

I would've thought the Club would've used the opportunity to sell high and offload at least one of them to gain a type of player we need. Both have decifiencies and aren't A-graders so they aren't irreplaceable. Kingy especially is very lucky to get 2 years as he did nothing post-round 10. If he continues that into 2012 then he becomes a list clogger.
-
Have to agree MT. Jake's mid season slump was a major concern. I can't really see how 2 years was warranted.
Nahas on the other hand has been brilliant this season. Well deserved extension.
-
I would assume that the 2nd year is conditional for both players. If not, here we go again.
-
bad move giving King 2 years

Dont assume anything at Punt Rd.
Would say that both there contracts wouldnt have that condition.
-
If Kings got 2 years unconditional then RFC is nothing more than a charity organisation parading as an AFL club. Just terrible decision making by RFC and then they want us to give them more of our hard earned so they can pay off the debt. How about saving some money first. No more money from me for the fund and if Jackson and afew others dont get the arse then I wont be putting in my hard earned for a membership either. RFC is treating us like idiots.
-
bit of an overreaction 10flag...Kingy tailed off a bit but by gee his first half season was AA material...with criminal convictions pending Im sure he had his mind elsewhere like we saw with krakeour...Look how he's gone since...sometimes it's better to pull head from fishbowl to make a well rounded assesment :lol There would be plenty of conditions surrounding his tenure...as we saw with tucks contract

Another Gerk classic ;D
-
2 year deals are better than 3 year deals, and If we hadn't or aren't learning then those 2 deals would have been 3 year, so from that perspective we are getting better with this stuff.

Classic, drove a few ""donkeys "" at the ""Valley"" in my younger days.

:lol
why doesn't it surprise me you were involved with the thieves on wheels?

Exactly. It's called depth and we ain't gunna win a flag without it.
-
Good decision to resign both. Both have a good work ethic and a positive influence
-
The re-signing these two would nearly be the writing on the wall for Nason now wouldnt it?

Id say so, with the likes of he and jackson not re-signed, I think thats telling
