Title: Tigers Likely to Keep Round 1 -v- Blues = Caro
Post by: WilliamPowell on September 21, 2011, 09:43:24 AM
A lot of babbling on about the Saints -v- Freo in round one but half way through the article I found this:
=========================

McLachlan also indicated the Carlton-Richmond Thursday night season-opener was likely to remain in 2012, despite pushes from other clubs and elsewhere within the AFL to promote a more competitive match-up to start the new season.

''It's a good franchise and I don't see any reason to get rid of it just for the sake of it. It hasn't been the greatest contest in the past but that will come with time,'' he said.

I hope we can knock them off this time! Doubtful though, they did beat us by 103 points.

The AFL are waiting for us to come good- when that happens the fixture gets locked in long term. So its up to us now. Theyve given us every opportunity and its time for RFC to start firing up and start playing good winning footy.

This game has been a membership killer for a long time.

Imagine if the first 5 games we played St.kilda, Melbourne, Essendon, North and then Carlton?

Build the momentum!

If it's a R1 home game against Gold Coast it will be played up North........

It wont be either, GWS want to play Sydney in Round 1 and as Sabretooth said, we play GC up north.

If the AFL would stop them bastards cheating the salary cap, and stop them tanking and stealing our priority picks then perhaps the match would not be so lopsided..

Could have sworn we led them well into the last quarter and only went down by 20 points in Round 1 this year.  Nothing wrong with that contest from a league perspective, especially when the 2 sides are old enemies and both young and on the improve.

Yep we were still in front with 6 minutes to go yet people will conveniently remember our flogging later in the year to conveniently present their argument in presenting their lesser case.
Next year lamentably we will probably go down to the Cheats but 2013 will be our first realistic chance to knock them off in the season opener provided the fixture remains beyond next year.

Agree with Tucker, everyone will remember the FTF round loss rather than our competitive effort in Rd 1
