From Pen & Paper Sports twitter
"Richmond are watching the situation of Brent Renouf who has fallen down the pecking order of Hawthorn's ruck stocks this year"
-
That's a misnomer, Hawthorn don't have ruck stocks. :rollin
-
Renour of Maric.
*shrugs shoulders*
Just seems like we are sifting through poo of other clubs to put a band aid on our list.
Our biggest hope is that Browne comes on... :-X :-\ :-X :-\
-
of course we are sifting through the poo of other clubs.
who would you be chasing?

I've said since day 1 Ben McEvoy.
Something stinks down at St.Kilda. They'd take our Pick 14, Foley and Graham/Browne for him.
Would look at either Max Gawn or Stefan Martin from Melbourne aswell.
-
your saying mcEvoy is worth pick 14 and two players?
How good is this kid?
The others, at this stage are pretty much others' dregs as well.

McEvoy was pick 4 or 6 in Cotchins draft. McEvoy can seriously play will be a better player than Naitinui and Smith over the next decade IMO. Was 2 bounces of the ball away from being a dual premiership ruckman at 22 years of age.
-
He'd wanna be royce hart good to eff up ourt list like that.
FWIW, Blake is a premiership ruckman, that doesn't make him a good one though
-
I like McEvoy as well Pope and agree, we should be hitting up something decent, don't know about Gawn but Martin would be a good get too.
Al, I'd rather we kept Graham than getting Blake.

No hope to be a premiership player Pope.
Wasn't selected in 2009 nor the first GF last year and only got a gig in the replay b/c Gardiner got injured.
Stefan Martin has resigned with the Dees and I believe so has Gawn.
Its bargain basement for us. Renouf may not be as bad. Premiership ruckman and the Hawks have been pinning their hopes on Bailey coming good from injury. Problem is he will be massively overpriced and I don't want to see those mongrels benefit from us.
-
I like McEvoy but he'll cost a lot, no way the saints would let him go
I would also unequivocably prefer Renouf to Maric. Even though renouf isnt much, I have seen him impact games and he'd be a massive upgrade on what we have.
-
Stefan Martin has already signed with Melb. Pretty certain Gawn has too.
I'd give up pick 14 and foley for McEvoy :thumbsup

x 2.
And talking of Gawn, I remember reading an article about him earlier this year where he said he has no intention or inclination to leave Melbourne, was very happy there.

Id rather keep Derricks, Browne and recruit a ruckman in the draft and another ruckman in the rookie draft. We have to take our medicine. We have taken short cuts too many times in the past. Its time to do this properly.
-
The problem is that drafting young ruckmen is a long term commitment.
Unless you get an exceptional talent you really cant expect anything out of them from 4-6 years. You cant put all your eggs in that basket as it's a lot of investment if they don't work out.
Having an affiliate team rather than our own seconds make it even harder to develop our own ruck stocks as Coburg will no doubt have their own ruckmen and will not be willing to give a young ruck a run over them if they feel it hurts their chances of winning.
Geelong and collonwoood both have their own reserves yet their no 1 rucks are both imports, not developed themselves.
If we pick up a cheapie to hold us over until we can trade in something decent or until we develop a young un then i cant see a problem
Free agency will help in luring a decent ruck from another club in future years.
You never know, they might get it right and find a serviceable player for the right price.

...neither Renouf or Maric had particularly good 2011's after both were "solid" in 2010 & had fairly similar stats...my op is who has the bigger upside (without sounding like a wanky journo lol) going forward (Renouf is a couple of years younger from memory) however both are really just stop gaps as we hope one of the younger guys develops...for the record, heard that Maric was "done deal" to us & that he was visiting our facilities about a week ago (not sure if that's old news here)
...hoping Derrickx can develop as he showed in what little play he had this year that he seems to love a contest, doesn't fear body-on-body work & is willing to bust his guts...not sure what he's like as kick for goal if we rest him forward & throw TV in the ruck for patches of the game?? anyone have any knowledge on that?

Sometimes you gotta go all in and some other times you gotta know when to not get involved at all ;D

You're on drugs
bloody hooligan

Greg Denham in today's Australian has Port Adelaide now focusing on Hawthorn ruckman Brent Renouf. No mention of Richmond.
