Title: GWS chasing Nathan Foley [rumour]
Post by: one-eyed on September 29, 2011, 02:09:13 PM
Greater Western Sydney have put an offer on the table for Nathan Foley. He's still yet to re sign with the Tigers.

Nathan Foley is actually contracted until the end of 2012. Anyone know if GWS can still nab him?

The guy has corrected himself about Foley being contracted...

"@mightytiges All I know is that there is an offer there to be considered. Hoping his contract status means they can't touch him now."

For there to be an offer for an contracted player it needs to put to the club first.

So any offer would have to be an offer of trade?

Pick in the mini super dooper underage draft?  :whistle

Hey guys, long time reader.

Obviously I didn't know Axel was contracted, but it makes our situation a little better.

GWS will have to trade for him of course.

What I do know, as I tweeted to mightytiges, is that there has been an offer of some sorts.

RFC are aware of this but want Axel to stay, and he is definitely not on the trade table.

GWS obviously have next year to get him as well, when he comes out of contract.

Regardless, I think he'll stay, he's a good clubman.

Go Tiges.

Yeah they can still get uncontracted players at the end of 2012.

Welcome mate.

In all honesty, if it got us a pick in the 17yo mini draft, I would trade him in a heartbeat. That is in effect getting next years Pick #1-5 for Axel.

Its a clear decision for mine. Play hard to get the best price. That means a pick in the U17s draft and I would also ask for a Luke Brown via a pre listed trade.

It's well documented that GWS want senior players for their mini draft picks, and not draft picks.

Foley + Bock compo pick is probably around the mark to get one of those draft picks.

However, I don't think it's enough to snap up O'Meara. Crouch, perhaps.

Weird situation this one.

No way should they give up the compo pick and foley for a pick of a 17 year old.

Flagman is on the money here.

GC will offer pick 4 for O'Meara while Port are chasing GWS' pick 3 in a swap for their pick 6 + some fringe Power players. The top sides will probably offer GWS some fringe or bottom 6 player plus even their first pick in mid-20s for O'Meara. Foley + the compo pick which is a top 20 pick next year would top any of those you'd think given as you say Cotch GWS want experience players who can walk into their best 22 next year. Foley alone may gain us something tempting.

The Foley rumour is supposively for pick 5 not mini-draft. GWS will take pick 4 for mini-draft then trade pick 5 to us.

Richmond should only do it for a top pick in the mini draft not for this national draft.
Title: Re: GWS chasing Nathan Foley [rumour]
Post by: JVT on October 04, 2011, 12:17:50 PM
Well Pick 5, 14 and Compo Pick would give us some real trade power if we didn't want to look at the draft. We could on trade Pick 5, or keep it and trade out Pick 14.

All just rumors though anyway, doubt GWS would give Pick 5 for Foley.

Pick 5 in this Draft would be very handy, would be much the muchness to pick 4 in the mini draft but at least we will be able to start developing the player straight away.......

A top 5 pick is a top 5 pick, the talent at the pointy end of this draft is just as good as the talent in that mini-draft

thats actually something i have been wondering about.

If we, or any other club for that matter, get a pick in this kiddie raffle, surely we would have them playing with out affiliate club so we can start influencing their development straight away?

Apparently stronger pointy end than last year.

Also interesting to note another forum has the original rumour from today which apparently came from SEN and it said it was for pick 4. (doesn't state ND or mini-draft) Mini-draft makes more sense seems GWS lose nothing.

so you'd knock back drafting one of this year's top 5 kids so you can reach for a kid that may or may not be in next year's top 5 AND can't play seniors for 12 months?

If it was between Pick 1 in the U/17 draft and Pick 5 in this years draft than yes.

Common sense to be shown, GWS wont give up Pick 1-4.

Pretty sure the whole topic of conversation revolved around us getting pick 4 in the mini draft for Foley then on trading it to GWS for pick 5 in the ND ;)
I doubt we have any chance in hell of getting pick 1 in the mini draft ;D

Agree Flags, we've cried out for years now that we dont get decent picks when we trade that's because we never offer anything decent in return

Seriously, if we have a serious chance of getting a top 10 pick somehow in this year's draft and Foley is a player that could get that over the line then the club would foolish not to look into it IMHO. Reality is Foley is not one of our "untouchables" TBBH

Spot on, if Foley is going to give us one of picks 5/7/9 or a shot at one of the 17yo's in the mini draft then the trade must be done. Moving a C/B grade player for the potential of an A.

Thats right Wee Will Powell.

WTF do te club think they are,wanting good picks and shopping the   s ch i t t e r s ?

Our midfield needs to stand up without relying on the apple turnover king and create the new core, one that doesn't have a weak link.Only then will we go forward.

With Foley we can ask for plenty without really losing much.

Well said, and there are lessons to be learnt from that, hello Jake King.

We also have a habit lately of perservering with players who showed something but were then cut down by injury, a la Coughlan, Nate Brown and Foley.

Time to start recognizing that you have to be a gun to return from long injuries and still be worthwhile, not just an average/slightly above average player.

Another lesson to be learnt there, hello Kel Moore.
