AFL investigator's salary cap fix deadline looms for St Kilda
by: Scott Gullan
From: Herald Sun
October 10, 2011
ST KILDA needs to pull the trigger in trade week to appease an AFL request to reduce its salary cap.
The Saints loom as a key player when the clubs converge today on Etihad Stadium given they have to shed a significant amount of cash from their salary cap by the end of the month.
Defender Sam Gilbert is the biggest name to have already been thrown out there along with out-of-contract pair Zac Dawson and Farren Ray.
AFL salary cap investigator Ken Wood has been a regular visitor to the Saints' Seaford base in recent weeks. He is understood to have found the Saints to be in breach of their salary cap but has given them room to move before the deadline of October 31.
So the Saints must move on players and they'll do so without a senior coach.

Talk about a club in freefall. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse for them - it does! :lol

Why are they giving them "room to move"
Are they in breach or not?

Loving this ;D

I think it means they are in breach for 2012 FNM.
First set of numbers for 2012 are due 31st Oct before the draft
So that means they do indeed have until 31/10/2012 to get the numbers under the cap, not that there is a cap right at the minute thanks to the players not accepting the currnet CBA offer
Couldn't happen to a better club ;D

ST KILDA has conceded it has some work to do before the end of the month to alleviate its salary cap squeeze after a Trade Week that did little to relieve the pressure.

Translation:
"We thought we would have won a premiership or two by now and in the Geelong mould, justifiably would be in a position to ask the players to take a pay cut to stay together. However, as the a r s e has fallen out of the club over the past 12 months, if existing contracted players don't take responsibility for our fups and take a pay cut, uncontracted players will be asked to nominate for the PSD."
