Richmond exchange 2010 End rd1 Comp pick (N Bock) to Suns for 2010 Rd2 Comp pick (N Krakouer),On-Traded rd1 pick (26) - via AFL
-
couple of questions
is the Krakouer pick end of rnd 2? and is that pick 26 in this years draft?
-
Pick 26 in this years draft and a compo pick for future drafts. :clapping
Well done, great move by Cameron!
-
FANTASTIC MOVE!!
Didn't want to post it without confirming, but this 2nd round pick becomes active straight after our second round pick, and not at the end of the round! :thumbsup :bow :cheers :gotigers

Do we have to use the compo pick this year or can we bank it?

Thanks JVT, thats good solid trading if thats correct
-
Not for this year's draft, it is banked and can be used up until 2015.
-
nicely done
-
Appears to be a good deal.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the compensation pick we now have will occur somewhere from 2012 to 2015 and be immediately after Port Adelaide's second round selection in the draft. Here's hoping that Port continue to suck long and hard!
Early expectation is it will be mid-40's next year because of how many compensation picks will be used.

Wow, if thats the case, and it stays to fall in place directly after Port, than we are even bigger winners! :clapping :pray

I believe now that it is in our hands, the 2nd round floating compo pick is based on where we finish.

I find that strange - its our pick now and has nothing to do with Port so you would assume it will come after our second rounder not Ports? Not that Id complain as port will clearly finish lower than us next year ;D
-
We must have some kid in mind at pick 26?
-

Nah comes after Port's otherwise Geelong could trade their Ablett one which if they win next year is about pick 19 to GWS who could use it as a pick 2 if they win wooden spoon. That would be a massive rorting of the system.
This is a huge win.
MacDonald, pick 26 and the Krakouer compo for Tambling. :lol

I think this calls for an Adelaide appreciation thread :rollin

The pick is linked to the club that it was initially generated for, so if it was generated by Port, it is dependant on where they finish not the club where it ends up. I listened to a pretty decent explanation on the radio by some trade gurus. Not sure what to make of this one, they must have something in mind.

Would imagine they expect us near the top and Port near the bottom hence we dont lose much. But gain a first rounder.

In theory, if Port finish bottom, and both we and GC activate the 2 said compo picks, the draft would look like this at the end of the first round:
25: Gold Coast (End of 1st Round Compo - Bock)
---------- 2nd Round -----------
26: Port Adelaide
27: Richmond (2nd Round Compo - Krakouer)
In theory of course.
-
Doesnt it mean the Bock compo is reliant on where Adelaide finish?
-
nope, thats an end of round pick.
-
Doesnt it mean the Bock compo is reliant on where Adelaide finish?
No, because there are 5 different types of compo picks, a 1st/2nd/3rd Round which comes into play after that clubs pick in the said round, and an End of 1st/2nd Round which is effective at the end of the round.
Bock Compo was an end of first round pick. Krakouer is a standard 2nd round pick, not an end of 2nd round.

Stop it, my head hurts.
-
On that basis it's a great result. Even with all the other compo picks that will come before this one, it'll still give us a good showing with 3 picks in the first 2 rounds which gives us some great trade leverage for next year when the meat market really opens up.
-
sheesh, thats clever , i dunno how we keep getting away with this kinda stuff, the rest of the comp will cotton on to us sooner or later :shh
-
...great trade work by BH and team on this...gets us up the order again in this draft with our 26 being a better pick than previously had...throw Maric in the mix and we keep a compo to activate when Port suck (which is effectively any time over the next couple of seasons :) )
Shrewd i'd call it...very shrewd...especially as a last minute deal...
-
shrewd as in recognising a good deal when you see one.
It was the GC team that approached us.

well...very "shrewd" in taking an obvious deal that was handed to us ;)
very, very sneaky...

Personally when i heard we were meeting with them i though 15 for 24 and 26. Was iffy about that. This is far better than my idea. Aren't u all glad im not in charge? :lol

Not shrewd, I believe that our compensation pick went to FJ having walked out on the club and requested a trade to GC.
The clubs hand was forced when the pick declared he would STAND OUT OF FOOTBALL altogether if he wasn't traded.
The club was disappointed to let the pick go but worked out a deal "for the best interests of the pick, his future and our club who picked up his 2nd cousin, 2nd round compensation Pick"
-
The Club has got a week to decide if we are going to use our 2nd round compo pick in this year's November draft.
Juicy draft tempting clubs

THE 2012 NAB AFL Draft is still more than seven months away, but the strength of this year's talent pool could see several clubs arm themselves with additional draft picks before the season begins.
Nearly half the clubs in the competition have the ability to activate compensation picks for use at November's national draft, but they must inform the AFL of their intentions by Tuesday, March 20.

So what do we have, or is that dependent on if the other sides use theirs too?
-
We have a compo 2nd round pick WAT. So effectively it will give us two 2nd rounders (the normal 2nd rounder plus the compo 2nd rounder). Whereabouts in the 2nd round the compo pick will be will depend on where Port Adelaide finish on the ladder.
If everything the Club hopes goes to plan in the coming years then this year will probably be the lowest we finish on the ladder for a few years (touchwood). Port will be a middle-bottom side as well. So it probably makes sense to use our compo pick this year (giving us two early-to-mid 2nd round picks) to add to our current young crop. The only reason we would wait is if we want to keep a spare 2nd round pick up our sleeve to keep bringing quality young players from inside the top 36 of the draft into the Club when we are near/at the top to stay up the top.

It's based on where Port finishes, not us

Oops I forgot about that Danog. I'll edit my post above.
“The second round compensation selection we acquired from Gold Coast today is aligned to where Port Adelaide finish on the ladder and still gives us an opportunity to pick three players in the first two rounds of the 2012 National Draft . . .

We are using our compo pick, but it wasnt mentioned in the story because ours is a 2nd round pick. Not as newsworthy.

Good news all the same

I think you'll have to settle for them finishing 17th at worst ;D
18th beckons for the Giants

does this mean we still have 1 compo pick remaining..that being the BOCK one :huh
-

We only ever had one compo pick (Tambling) and we traded it with Gold Coast for the one we will be using this season

We gave the Bock compensation to GC. We got a fourth-band pick compensation from Gold Coast which was firstly Port Adelaides for Krakouer.
Trade History
2011 Trade
Richmond - Compensation draft pick (end of first round) = Gold Coast Draft pick No. 26 Compensation draft pick(fourth-band)
2010 Trade
Gold Coast Simon Philips and Draft pick #35 = Port Adelaide Compensation pick(fourth-band)
