Richmond is showing an interest in recently delisted Demons utility Addam Maric, 21, who has been invited to start pre-season training with the Tigers with a view to drafting him.
Maric played nine games this season for a career tally of 21 for Melbourne in four seasons. His best effort this year was a 31-possession performance against Adelaide in round seven.

So where does he usually play, what is his best suited position.

Todd Viney’s season assessment
Addam had an opportunity as a crumbing forward. He’s got beautiful skills, but he still needs to work on his defensive skills, although he did make some progression in that area.

LOL!
Why would we delist Nason only to pick up pokéMaric?

Yep, my mail is that the whole football dept does not want maric, but cameron, as is his way in abusing the power he holds, is over riding them all and will bring maric in.
It is a poor situation when one man can be responsible for such decisions and the club needs to do something about it ASAP

Maric will only be one of a couple of players we are having a look at over the next few weeks from what I'm told.

in all seriousness, Craig Cameron should be coaching the Dudville twos
-
Not another small :help.
Unless they have freakish skills and pace we shouldn't be wasting our time looking at sub-180cm footballers.

a spud AND lazy??!! horrible combination...motivated spuds are another thing altogether :)
they did have some wraps on him at one stage & thought he might have been able to push into midfield rotations...haven't seen or heard anything to warrant taking a chance on him & none of my Melbum mates speak to highly of him (for what those scumbag's opinions are worth....lol)

Bullplop Ox. He'd have you covered by at least 3 inches

Addam Maric was just on SEN:
* He's been training with us since Monday. Disappointing to be delisted from Melbourne but now just looking forward to the future and hoping to continue doing what he loves. He knows this will be his last chance at AFL.
* Been asked and knows he needs to get fitter as he's mainly been a small forward and he needs to get fitter to be able to push into the midfield.
* Working with Shane Edwards at Punt Rd as he use to live at a mate's house.
* Never had a run with North. Just the Tigers have asked him to train with them.
-
Pretty certain we will take him but be interesting to see where.
ND, PSD or Rookie?
-
PSD I reckon, maybe rookie
-
Looks bulkier than most of the smalls
-
If we are going to take him then it should be as a rookie IMHO
-
have heard pretty good wraps on this kid, at a no 70+ pick, I reckon he's be a shrewd investment :shh
-
I want to keep offloading our garbage not picking up other teams refuse

thanks very much for the insult davey, let me roll over and you can kick the other rib...I wasnt very happy over Robert walls coming to our club and I though GR's handling of the out of contract geoff raines, david cloke and bryan wood was reprehensible...need I go on :wallywink
-
Anything in the last 7 years?
-
I believe Gary march ran over a black cat whilst giving Bo a lift to the clubs family day
-
Where does that leave us with Maric & MCcarthy?
MCcarthy PSD and Maric possible rookie?
Thoughts?

Who gives a toss about Maric? :lol

We will pick up McCarthy in the PSD

If i got home in time I would have used him in the phantom draft to Gold Coast.....
Then when Gold Coast lure Andrew Swallow up nth, ( Which I believe they will) they can offer Maric (shorty) as compo..
We all know Nort loves Midgets :lol :lol
-
x 5
-
Outside young macdonald and helbig, are still a short forward / mid forward short. I expect us to go after a couple rookie/psd.
King and white are limited.
Hicks gone
Houli looks more back/wing

rookie spot would be the only way i'd consider him...was a fairly highly rated youngster (still the same height as many youngsters...) didn't display the work ethic or put in enough is the knock on him - maybe being delisted might jolt some sense into him...rookie spot, make him earn it & if he does it's a bonus as he's still only young...could fill a need for us if he can put it together...

Yep, make him earn it if he has some talent then he should come along if he puts the effort in, otherwise he gets to wait at the boat ramp for the Con and Lazarou who will teach him some some of the finer points from classical history
-
The Kid can play but consistency seems to be a major issue. In last years NAB cup he played a couple of blinders, as a small forward he looked unstoppable! It really looked like he was going to have a break out season but it never happened? Melbourne persevered with him for 7 or 8 games but for some reason he just couldn't re capture his NAB cup form.
Give him a chance to earn his spot via the rookie list rather than the senior would be more fitting for this Kid IMO.
-
in fairness to this guy Melbourne is a pretty dud club
-
....and had a coach more interested in losing for draft picks than getting the best out of his team

No, you 'name it'. Name the rep sides and all the b&fs/league medals he won. Morrish Medal? No, not that it means poo anyway. Fort Caruso won a couple. The Shack even won one. B&Fs in under age football means poo all.

Maybe he is just one of a long list of players who were not able to play at a consistent level for AFL standards. This list is also full of prodigy's like our very own Aaron Fiora.

Hate having two players with the same surname in one team. :banghead

Never really been a fan of this bloke but I don't care at all taking him as a rookie. No commitment and no expectations. Kind of like an ex-rental sale at the video shop.

I'm with you on this one WP. Only disappointment for me was this pick, but I guess after missing out on McCarthy they decided to pick him up before North got him. All the best to him though.
-
he might pull his finger out, he gets his second chance with us as a rookie, he knows if he blows it, there is no more after Richmond, no-one will want a bar of him.

Unless he changes his name to Adam Pattison ;)

Francis Jackson says:
"Obviously we think Addam's very talented. He's got some special attributes, in particular his ability to kick the ball well and kick goals, which is something we need. He played nine AFL games this year and had a 30-possession game against Adelaide. We think he's very, very capable, but we need to work on his consistency. We're happy to give him another opportunity."

I didn't know he was such a prodigious kick. Seems to be able to comfortably bang them in from outside 50.
Could be a goodun' after all.

His name is Ivan.

Very happy. The boy has skillz

highly regarded and highly skilled and he knew it. Don't know if it went to his head or if he always thought his poo smelt like roses, but his work ethic has been his big weakness. If his attitude changes and he works his arse off, he'll play afl again, if not, not
-
a person can change their attitude, but not their skill level.
-
Played school footy with Cotch and barracks for the Tigers. Should be some extra motivation at the last chance saloon. Also a prodigy. Whoa Maric

good to have a forward pocket option outside of king and white.
-
Happy we took him here. He was the other player we were debating about taking at pick 55 in the National Draft ;)
-
dont be suprised if this kid tuns into the bargain basement of the draft, he's packed on the muscle has all the tricks in the book, just needs to get some attitude. He just needs to go out and kick his 2-3 ea week and jobs done, selection justified :shh
-
Agreed. A miracle no one else went near him. Whoa
-
apparently maric kicked 100 goals in a year as junior playing as a midfielder.
That is a pretty fair effort.
-
Prediction! A Maric will play all 22 games barring injury plus finals (Yeh) and become our number one small forward.
The prodigy will also allow Lids to be released to the midfield.........

Davros you have something stuck in your teeth.....

looks like some sort of hair
-
So where does he usually play, what is his best suited position.
I think we do. Nahas is more middle/wing/half forward.
You need at least one cruming fwd type. King goes hard but is not great overrated.
I reckon the two smalls in the once highly rated delisted player and the could be anything young aborinal kid balance the list well.

Thats why he's a prodigy , he can achieve unattainable and that includes the world seeing Deledio in the midfield ;D

It was 120+ goals playing in thr midfield for Greenvale playing under 16's aged 15. I think he did the same in under 14's too ...

The only problem I see is, have we gone from Farmer to a smaller Farmer.....really think think this choice by the club will be interesting...
-
Kicked yen goals on a tac cup game for Calder. Was AA also.
Got 6 goals 35 touches in a game of school footy, on the wet. Bog ahead of cotchin

Difference is one is a rookie the other was a list clogger! Don't have an issue with rookieing Maric, if he can earn himself a spot in the side then good luck to him.

true chances are he will fail. But it's good we are not trading 2nd round draft picks any
more for these types.
Plus it'd be hard being a forward pocket in a team trying to lose. Who's best player wants to go to north to sheedy.

Too slow for AFL IMo but certainly worth a crack as a rookie pick.

Too slow for AFL IMo but certainly worth a crack as a rookie pick.
def worth a crack as a rookie - perfect for a rookie pick imo...has obvious skills (had a couple of solid games at afl level already), still only young and fills a void for us...hopefully the "head check" of getting delisted and then only being a rookie will make him fight (read - train hard, keep his head down and attitude right) and get the most out of him...could be a good pick up if it works out that way - if not, you haven't lost much as a rookie choice...
-
he'll be playing R1, bookmark it :shh
-
the phenomenon will kick 6 :lol
-
Will he play forward or return to the form of his Greenvale under 14 days playing a midfielder? BJ, tell us where Dimma is going to play him. Also tell us the other 21 players who are lining up in round one since the decision has already been made.
Kind regards,
Big Sexy

-
LOL ahh gold ill pay that
-
I still think A.Maric is too small and doesn't have enough elite 'tricks' to compensate at AFL level.
-
its not a magic show or an insurance claim. He is a rookie, they can torture him in the gym, fill him full of whey, and if he decides to pull his digit out he might crack it. He has more natural talent than a lot of blokes who do make it so he just has to address his weaknesses which could be down to maturity and application while he was at Melbourne.
-
Too slow for AFL IMo but certainly worth a crack as a rookie pick.
Went to school with him played footy with him at Essendon Grammar, not saying 100m is be all and end all in footy or anything near it but he is certainly not slow, in fact he is very quick. I can remember him running very low 11s in 100m and pushing breaking 11secs that was in year11/12. Did kick over 100 goals in under 16s as a bottom age also and missed 4 games in the 15 game season. Also played on Marc Murphy (as a yr 12 student at Whitefriars I think the school was) and he was in yr 10, Murphy had a lot of it but he had 30plus and kicked 3 himself. Best junior player i have played with and against including Trent Cotchin which I had on par as a under 18. Obviously needs to prove it at senior level. Hope he does.
-
Maybe be another talent who just doesn't work hard enough and misses the boat. If you're right about his pace and ability I hope he pulls his finger out and becomes team orientated. Would be amazing to have him join the midfield brigade and help Trent next year.
On past experience though, my hopes aren't high
-

^ firstly bravo re magic show/insurance claim - well played sir :)
and agree - he's a rookie, we haven't guaranteed him anything so now it's up to him to prove how bad he wants it...if he does have all the skills people have mentioned (although dominating juniors is one thing - you can get by on natural ability alone as a kid), pulls his finger out, gets fit & most importantly gets the right attitude/hunger after being delisted then he could fit into the team nicely...good news for him is he's the right age & there's a spot/need available if he's willing to earn it...

for the first time in his career he'll share a forward line with a coleman medalist :shh...as JR8 gets sucked up the ground creating a vaccum with vickers one out in the sq, Maric will come steaming through like the Lilydale special, express box Hill to ringwood and swoop on any loose pill. KB was a past master at this, if maric can pick up where he left off his decorated hunior days then whoa, we might just have a player :clapping
-
I wasn't a fan of picking him up but credit where it's due. He played very well last night running hard and showing some footy smarts under pressure.
-
was in everything against the hawks. :thumbsup
-
Tell ya what he looks like he doesn't looks skinny anymore either.
-
Sucked in Dees
Bradley was good too
Craig Cameron should get a 2 yr extension

Craig Cameron is working on a deal for Craig Cameron as we speak. It will be another 5 year deal :cheers

boy if he had of slotted that last one he swooped on so cleanly i would have scripted it just perfect :shh

Yep both rejects were in our best players.

Too slow for AFL IMo but certainly worth a crack as a rookie pick.
Too slow, he is as quick as Nahas.
he was very good last night, wont be a rookie for too long ;)
-
I still think A.Maric is too small and doesn't have enough elite 'tricks' to compensate at AFL level.
This will come back to haunt you MT

Round 1 NAB boys. Liked what I saw last night though.

can say that again :shh

people dont realise how good this bloke was at under 18 level.
Dont know what happened at Melbourne
You never lose you ability, just your confidence
-
fair to say he was a prodigy. why did he get the ass from Melbourne? I hope he's not another Connors :(
:lol
-
Yeah looks like he has a real hunger, maybe just maybe we can find a diamond in the rough with this bloke.
Certainly rammed it up my uninformed opinion ....
-
I was dead set against this bloke when I first learned he was training with us. Didn't give a stuff when we only rookie listed him. But it's time to eat my hat, he was pretty decent last night. If his performance in that one game is anything to go by, he'd be deadly as a permanent fixture in our forward line. Several times he exploded from the square, leaving his opponent in the dust and was the first to scoop the loose footies that floated in from the bombs.
Sounds like getting delisted from Melbourne was a wake up call. Seems super hungry and from what I've heard about him being a Tigers man, he really wants to play for the passion of the jumper.
-
I thought he was good. Is he related to Ivan - Maric isn't a common name?

hmm, where have i heard that before :thumbsup

Is he a Brownlow chance? What a great pick up. :shh just like Morton was :shh Cleve Hughes, good 18s player and he still has the ability. let's re draft him :shh look out :shh
whoa :shh
but in all seriousness, good game addam and hope you keep it up. looks like he makes all his possies count
-
uhuh, not your best work there coach, lesson One , dont lose your head and always keep your dignity...the shadow of a leader looms large :shh
-
sometimes you don't know your onto a good thing til it nearly slips from your grasp...so you hit it a few times til it stays still and does what its told... oh wait wrong thread..wheres that alan jones thread again?

Lesson 267 for BJ: Don't get excited over a NAB Cup game. Morts looked the goods for his first two years here.
-
...thought he showed flashes to suggest he will at the very least be a good depth player and push others to maintain their spot - on that value alone I'd say he was worth the rookie pick...hopefully grabs his second chance as he obviously has some talent...
-

You have to bear in mind that this was a short version of the real thing.
Much of the criticism of him has been that he hasn't been fit enough to run out games of football.
However you're right at this stage of the season he looked quicker than I credited him for.
Promising start..
-
The other thing to is he had a blinder NAB cup last season as well (I put him in my super coach after what I saw) he then went on to play the first 6 or 7 games proper and didn't get close to his NAB cup form :huh he was dropped after that and never returned.......
-
Surprised me the other night, could be a great pick up.
-
I thought he was good. Is he related to Ivan - Maric isn't a common name?
Agree Julz
And NO I don't think they are related although they played juniors int he same suburban league (out Keilor way)
-

its a very common name, more common than most think,
-
Thought he was very good. Provided a real boost in class when he was near the ball.
Faster than I thought he was.
Could be one of the steals of the draft (rookie and national).
-
Could get confusing @ Coburg !! The Burgers have signed Nicholas Maric
-
was genuinely surprised by addam also.
Perhaps if his match fitness is a worry then he could be used as a forward sub.
His running into the fwd line was a highlight, and looked worrying for a backline such as the Hawks.
Could be a great pick up, but too early to tell.

Maric finding some magic
By Paul Daffey
Mon 27 Feb, 2012
THE MANY fans who thought Richmond recruit Addam Maric played well in his first game in the yellow and black had a significant supporter - Maric himself.
The 21-year-old small forward told AFL.com.au that the game he played against Hawthorn in the first round of the NAB Cup was the most satisfying of his career.
The main reason, he said, was his rise in "pressure acts", a facet of his game on which he's had to work.
But Maric also gained plenty of the ball, and every time he got it there was a sense that something was about to happen.
Maric was renowned for his creativity as a junior.
Against Hawthorn it seemed as if he was ready to reveal to the AFL world his box of tricks.
"I contributed, but I want to play better," he said.
Melbourne took Maric at No.21 in the 2007 NAB Draft from the Calder Cannons.
He spent four frustrating years with the Demons, playing only 21 matches and kicking 15 goals.
He had injuries, but his main problem was inconsistency, and Maric said he was too emotionally and physically immature to handle life as an AFL footballer.
He realised after the 2010 season that he was going to have to knuckle down, and with no injuries to hold him back, he put in his first full pre-season.
During 2011 he had a career-high 31 possessions against Adelaide, but again he struggled to establish himself, playing nine games and kicking eight goals.
The Demons delisted him and Richmond picked him in at No.7 in the NAB AFL Rookie draft.
He now believes he's in a better position to realise his potential.
Maric has drawn great confidence from the encouragement of Richmond coaches and fitness staff, and greater confidence from the simple fact that he's been able to complete his second full pre-season.
Early in his career he felt as if he was always behind the eight ball. Now, he said, he was the fittest he had ever been.
Maric's main source of support during the Tigers' victory over Hawthorn - he didn't play in the earlier match against North Melbourne - was fellow small forward Jake King.
"He spoke to me a fair bit during the game - encouragement and a bit of direction," Maric said.
To the onlooker it seemed as if King was rather big-hearted, as he and Maric appear to be playing for the same spot.
But Maric believed there was room for more than one small forward in the Tigers' attack.
He said most small forwards were now part of midfield rotations, and he and King could work in tandem rather than trying to undercut each other.
Maric's immediate aim is modest. He just wants to perform well enough during the pre-season and the VFL season to be upgraded to the senior list if the opportunity arises.
"I just want to play well this Sunday against Freo, and then take it one week at a time," he said. "I'm trying not to look too far ahead."

-
Well good luck to him, at least we now know he will be in the team against Freo...
Love to see him rotating as a small forward with King through the centre..
-
I'd imagine playing a glorified praccy match for the Mighty Tigers would be the most satisfying game of a career if that career only previously included playing for the Deethes
-
probably wrapt to have a coach not deliberately trying to loose.
-
:lol
I'm switching to the bojang line, this kid is the next Nathan G :shh

Maric's post game interview.
-
Was very impressed with him yesterday
Really made the extra effort to get involved rather sitting back waiting for the ball to come his way
-
Addam is a rookie who has been there 5 mins and is already ahead of half the list.on present form.must play Round 1.who for ? Nahas
-
he'll replace King
you might find he is suspended and you might find him in the VFL for a while if this prodigy takes his opportunity
-

If he improves defensively, then yes

Prodigy doesn't need to bother with that. He's a stuff, how good are his skills? We should all be on our knees kissing BJ's balls right now :bow
-
he was a prodigy this kid, if we can get him to Punt rd then look out he could be anything in the right environment...a prudent choice and more talent in his little toe than McCarthy :shh
:clapping
Kudos to you Mr Bojangleberry
-
Maric right in the mix
Talented small forward Addam Maric is giving himself every chance of being elevated from Richmond’s rookie list to the senior list and lining up for the Tigers in the opening round blockbuster clash with Carlton. Maric, who was picked up by Richmond in the AFL’s rookie draft last December following his delisting by Melbourne at the end of the 2011 season, produced another eye-catching performance for his new club, in last Sunday’s second round NAB Cup match against Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.

Even Dimma made a mention in his post match about mini-Maric working hard on getting that pre-season promo. You'd almost think he's a dead set shoe in, but Miller has been unreal too. I'd nearly put my money on both getting lifted using LTIL and pre-season promo.
-
rest easy son
both will be upgraded
-
Both should play round 1.
Unfortunately, none of our young talls can match Miller's output yet.

yeah well ty coach, ya learn a thing or two in 30 years of membership, you'd do well not to question me again :shh
-
Hey whoa whoa man. Getting one thing right this pre-season out of 100 outrageous predictions is just not good enough mate. :shh
-
is that another question? better not be :shh
-
well ill give you another one you can take all the way to the bank...Ellis better start preparing his rising star speach...he's that far ahead of the next bloke it aint fair...still pinching myself we nabbed this bloke :shh

Nope, Addam Maric can play and did OK despite playing as a subititue.
Did play full matches against Fremantle (loss) and Gold Coast (loss) and was the scape goat. Wasn't the worse in those matches. We as a team were horrible!
-
He is not up to it

Whoa lookout this kid is a prodigy :shh
