Title: Nathan Foley 2012 - Your expectations.
Post by: Ox on January 08, 2012, 03:07:16 PM
Hardwick and co are still praising Nathan Foley, expecting blind faith to overcome an injury ridden career and negate an already turnover filled game style.

What do you think 2012 holds in store for this guy?

Will he be surpassed by youth or continue to hold his favorable position in the squad?

Quality player who should improve with another year back from injury. With a full pre season I expect him to be a key part of our midfield rotations.

Yep same here Magic. I was always going to give him 2011 just to show if his body could cope getting through a full season again which he and his ankle did. With a full season under his belt and now a full preseason, I'd expect him to be getting back close to something nearer his best and as Magic says become a key part of our midfield rotation. The positive now for us is unlike 2007-8 Axel doesn't have to be in the top 3 with Cotch, Dusty and Lids leading the way.

This poll is loaded.

Where is the 'will improve on last year and get back to near career best form' option?

Always reckon major/nagging/difficult injuries are a career killer if your hitting the 28+ Mark,
Axel is only 26 & love to see him improve slightly on last year which will prob see him averaging 25-30 possies a game. Has to do this IMO as we have an up and coming midfield to match the best!
Think he may have to play the Knighter/Brooders role get in the congestion a quick 5-10 and get it out to the runners.

Think we will see Nathan back to his best, although we have heard very little of him during the preseason but that's no a biggie.

I would like to see him play more of an in and under player kicking 2-3 goals a game.

2007 form would be great.  I think Foley will be played more as a HFF, with extended stints in the middle.

Interesting I would have thought that as soon as his midfield role lessens he is gone, ont see him as having any marking ability to play in the forward line

Those stats are pretty healthy coming off such a serious injury. He wasn't at his best but he's not far off it considering.

I reckon comparing stats from outside the last three years is really difficult because the introduction of zoning has led to so much cheap possession.

Fit and firing Foley’s focus on finals
By Toby Prime

A FIT and firing Nathan Foley could be the difference as to whether Richmond makes a return to finals football for the first time in 10 years.

Picked up by Richmond with pick four in the 2003 rookie draft, Foley played all 22 games for the Tigers in 2011 after enduring a horror run with injuries in 2009 and 2010.

With a full pre-season under his belt this summer, Foley is adamant that he can return to his 2007 form when he finished second in Richmond’s best and fairest.

“I’m getting fit, which is good, and accumulating training which is probably the most important part,” Foley said.

“The pre-season has been good, all the boys have trained really hard and I’ve been lucky enough to do all of the pre-season and I haven’t missed too many sessions so I’m in pretty good shape along with a lot of the boys,” he said.

The 26-year-old has played 110 games since making his debut in 2005, but is hopeful that 2012 will be the year he gets to play finals football.

He played really well the other night, something that seems to have been largely overlooked.
Hope he has a fantastic season.

With another pre-season under his belt and good run with injuries, I reckon he'll fly under the radar while the opposition focuses on Dusty, Cotch, and Lids, and have a ripper season.

I actually thought his game last week against Hawthorn was the best I'd seen him play since he was runner up in the B&F. He was excellent

He still coughs up the pill when under little pressure.
