Title: Jayden Post - 2012 expectations?
Post by: one-eyed on February 04, 2012, 03:40:38 PM
Next up is Postie who is entering his fourth year at AFL level ...

What are your expectations for Post this year, where should he be played on the park, and what would he need to do in 2012 for it to be classed as a good year for him?

Games  Kicks   Hballs   Disp.    Marks    Tackles    G.B       Re50   1%
2009       7       5.9      4.7    10.6      4.3         1.4       2.6
2010       7       4.3      4.7      9.0      3.7         0.9       3.1
2011       8       5.5      4.5    10.0      3.5         1.9       0.1        1.9     5.0

I hope that he arrives this year! Has the potential to be a long term backman.

Consistency is the key here.. Cant see him getting another year if he has another slow season.

Opportunity is there. This is his moment and he won't get a better chance.

Still very young for a tall and has only played 22 games, so its perhaps unfair that what ever sort of year he has will define the way people view him as a footballer.

Unless he really goes backwards at a rate of knots this year I think he'll still be with us for the next 2-3 seasons.

I think he does need to show a lot more than he has to cement his future at RFC. In saying that, I think that how the other young talls go will play a big part in deciding his future if he has an ordinary year.

I think that this is an important year for Post to impress the coaches and put pressure on the back tall positions. I don't mind Post, and I honestly think if he can't fit in the team, unlike other hacks we just delist, he could be worth a half defent pick or a swap at the trade table.

He gets my Stephen Bradbury award for being the last man standing for a key back role behind McGuane, Moore, Thursty and even Assbury have all fallen or are falling in front of Postie who probably lines up r1 at CHB.

Mind you, I'm still  not holding my breath but I hope he makes it because that is a major piece of the puzzle still missing

I still think this kid will be a good one.

His task is to show enough this year to stay on the list long enough to prove me right.

A relative comparison to Riewoldt in terms of development is probably apt as both are around similar size (although different positions on the field it is the development curve that is of interest).

Riewoldt played against men in the VFL when 17, whereas Post has an extra season at TAC level as a 19 year old which promoted his draft prospects, but probably limited his immediate AFL impact.

There are a couple of AFL pre-seasons involved in this delay, and that is where Post is probably at compared to Jack, 2 years behind relative to debut.

Would want to see Post get an extended run in the 1's for 10+ games (if form warrants) in position as a 2nd defender and determine if he has the potential at B level or higher in 2013.

Post will be in his 4th year this year just like Rance was last year. Both had just over 20 games each after 3 years at the club and showed some good signs. Post looks very determined at training from what I saw last month and has bulked up and worked on his acceleration. Rance showed similar signs last preseason. Everything about Posts first 3 years reminds me of Rance and he could be in for a very good year in defence

+1

Watch this year the third and fourth year players, thats where the big improvement in our Club will come from if it does.

Needs to show a lot more. 23 later this year. Has some ability and the size but probably needs some more confidence in himself. No excuses for Posty if he doesn't play at least 15 games in 2012 :thumbsup

I agree. There aren't to many guys running around in the AFL that have spent 4 or 5 years on a list before getting a regular game, you either have it or you don't! Posty needs to step up this season or bust..........

Under the pump no doubt. Hope he has an improved year but if he flops, he's delisted.

Agree with Mr Magic

To be honest I tihnk he is very lucky to still be on the list, would think the fact he had contract was the only thing that saved him

Make or break year IMHO

Needs to use his size to his advantage, needs to show more aggression towards the ball and towards contest

Dunno about a 2nd round pick being cut after only a couple of years. he showed a bit in his first season

needs to increase his disposals by 50%.
get more involved in the game instead of spectating.
Otherwise Centrelink bound in 2013.
I hope he makes it and improves :thumbsup

I suupose that's part of the problem Coach - showed a bit in his first season buthas shown anything since; would actually say he went backwards last year

Agree with this comment from Jack:

get more involved in the game instead of spectating.

Reckon that's his biggest problem
