Title: Can we turn it around this week against the Hawks
Post by: mightytiges on March 30, 2005, 04:41:03 AM
Not confident at beating anyone after Sunday but you would hope we will be at least competitive against the Hawks this week who are just as bad as us. It won't be pretty skill-wise but both sides should be fired up.

Swap Pettifer (to a HBF) and Tivendale (to a HFF). Tivs is no defender. Bring in Staff as well as Hartigan and/or Raines. We need as many ballwinners in the midfield rotation as we can get.

I think we'll bounce back against Hawthorn on Sunday Richo had a horror day it won't happen twice in a row & most of our leaders and senior group had shockers but if you compare match stats of our game agaist the Hawks last week there is a definate gap between us.

Stats and rankings;

Richmond v geelong

Swans v Hawthorn

I don't even want to think of the consequences should we play the same crap that was served up v Cats again this week and i don't think the players do either.

One would expect a more disciplined effort, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will be so.

The little advantage that we may have this week is that the Hawks being a side of comparitable magnitude to us shouldn't be able to exert the same amount of pressure onto our players as did the Cats so therefore we should be able to hold our game plan together much better and for longer.

The disadvantage is, is that the Hawks will actually think they can win, if the hawks were playing Brisbane for instance the psychological advantage to Brisbane would be very great but as they are playing us the mindset will be "we can win this game" as a result they will be more intense and this game could boil down into quite a tussle for both sides.

I think the key to winning this game is to get a great start, I think the team that can get up and going the quickest and get a 3-4 goal lead will go on and win the match.

Anything has to be an improvement on last week.  I suppose we have to expect there’s going to be lots of ups and downs throughout the season and until the playing list, or the players themselves, improves then we’ll continue to mostly struggle against the better teams and do a lot better against the middle of the ladder teams.

Because of the new style of play, things might look worse or better at times than they actually are.  Can live with that, as hard as it might be at times, because we have to start somewhere.

depends how you define turn it around , yes we should be much more competitive this week
and may even win but that will be almost entirely due to the difference in the quality of the opposition..

any real improvement in the quality of our play this year will be very slow and marginal as we all know...
