Foley on SEN in a minute just after the 6pm news.
-
Summary
* Axel said he's feeling good. His first full preseason in a while. Looking forward to tomorrow night.
* Good feeling around club. Fair bit of footy into guys now - Martin, Conca, Batch. More experience in these guys and the improvement become more apparent.
* Robbo asked about Cotch saying we are ready. Ready for what? Foley replied all clubs are pressing for top 8. We know how competitive it is. Bit of work ahead of us but hopefully we can sneak in there.
* Previously had a number of guys with a limited number of preseasons but now they've had a few under their belts plus another preseason with Dimma regarding understanding the gameplan. There's been plenty of meetings.
* Robbo said Vickery made a quantum leap last year. Now have two players who demand good defenders on them. Is there another quantum leap in him? Axel replied TV has preseason surgery but is fighting fit now. Really helped Jack last year and is a good kick at goal which is a big asset.
* Connors - Dan has had a few off-field issues as everyone knows. A couple weeks behind the eight ball having just come back into main training with the squad but he's in good shape and played in our intra-club. He's got a lot of talent and a good clubman. Everyone wants him to succeed so hopefully he can put his best foot forward come round 1.
* Round 1 - haven't got that far down the track yet. Carlton have given us probs the past couple of years. At the moment just looking at getting our dtrcutures right and will focus on round 1 later on.
* Robbo said it's a very high expectation for Richmond to make top 6. They are very young and guys have only had 3 seasons compared to other sides who have had 8-9-10 seasons behind them. Foley said yep we're a young team and Dimma is doing a fantastic job. Hopefully we can push the boundaries as we have a lot talent down here now.
* Starting midfield? tough question - Cotch, himself (asked if he could put himself in there laughs), Dusty, Lids a chance. It's tough to get in there. Maric has had a good preseason and will take the ruck. Robbo was happy Foley said it was tough to get in there. Good signs.
* Riewoldt - joined in training 3 weeks ago and is running really well. Moved well in intra-club. We'll get a run tomorrow night.
* Moore - He's going well. Underrated players. Important to our team and rated by opposition players. Back running but has a fair bit of time to go. Rance is stuff with Moore next in line. Robbo said Rance was good last year. Foley said hopefully Rance can build on last year.
* Derickx - one of the standouts of the preseason. Deceptively quick and can take a good mark. Will play up forward.
* Grimes - recovery fine. Done a full preseason. Round 22 last year he was ready to play so he's had a long preseason. Great to have him back in our backline.
* After Foley left, Robbo said we're not ready to make the top 8 as we are young and it's a hard sport to play at the top level. Having watched the Prelims last year he can't see us getting near the second last week of the finals let alone a Grand Final. Out of the first 4 weeks can't see us winning except for the Melbourne game which is 50/50 as both clubs are tracking around the same mark.

What was the purpose of that top 6 remark?
At what stage did anyone mention top 6?? Must have confused us with the deluded bummers

I completely agree. When has anyone mention top 6??? It's our ultimate goal this year to, as Foley stated, scrap into the top 8. Robbo is trying his best to both build up media and supporter expectation on the club and then with the next breath, write us off completely. :wallywink
Robbo aside, Foley was very informative regarding the state of the list. I'm most excited about Derickx's form in the forwardline. I believe that will make a huge difference (as long as he doesn't keep colliding with the other two!) to our ability to spread the defenders. Great to hear getting into the starting midfield is tough too :thumbsup

The only thing I can think of is Robbo was off in his own little world predicting which sides outside his top 5 (Geel, Coll, Haw, Carl and Eagles) would make up the remaining 6th, 7th and 8th places in the finals. The Club, even with its overly optimistic 3 finals in the next 3 years, sure has never mentioned finishing top 6 in 2012.

Robbo trying to pile on the pressure. I'd just be thrilled with top 8!

Its most likely what OE said above here, or yes MM piling on the pressure and trying to catch us out saying something we don't want to... " Ready? What are you ready for??...
Ready to use your head as a footy dumbass! What do you think

I reckon Robbo is after Mike Sheahan's old job of "Chief Footy Writer" for the HUN . Coming out with pointless comments about the top 6 proves it ;D
-
Ahh of course, has to prove his senility as part of the vetting process...

:lol well he did a good job
Robbo said we're not ready to make the top 8
