Title: RFC greatest memories of the last 20 years-whats yours?
Post by: Ox on March 06, 2012, 09:33:19 PM
My fave is when we,the people had had enough of the moron coach (Frawley) and collectively, yet an individual effort,we spat on the son of a bitch.

Seriously, how the stuff did he get a job with us???

probably that we're still bloody well here at all, most other organisations that have endured 3 decades of failure would have been stuffed long ago but not us, through the dedication of a loyal band of supporters the club has stood tall and is now on the cusp of greatness and is anyones guess as to how many flags we might snaffle in next few years :shh

That was 24 years ago 1988. :thumbsup

Mine was the beating Carlton Round 1 2008 with all the footy mercenary hype.

Has to be the 1995 Semi win vs the Bumms.

In particular:

-The Knights goals.

-The bronx cheers directed at the umpires in the 3rd quarter for long awaited free kicks.

-The comeback that was sparked when Scotty Turner plucked it from a throw in and threw it on his boot..

-The Naish and Daffy running goals that brought the house down.

-The 2 Matty Rogers goals at the end.

-The mass booing of Gary O' Donnel when he was knocked out and the bummers took their time getting him off.

-The feral-ness of the Richmond fans that day and the amount of RFC ferals... (Outnumbered the bumbers fans quite easily that day)

-The smokers in the crowd (lol)

-and last but not least, the bronx cheers that our CEO received after finally getting a kick in the 3rd quarter.

This match just goes to show how much a winning Richmond dwarfs Essendon and Carlton and makes them look like silent minnows who aren't even at the game.

Great memories Mrakov but sick of regurgitating that over and over again on this forum.
Time for some new memories to cherish.

But it is without a doubt the greatest RFC memory of the past 20 years isn't it?

No doubt, remember that Sunny September Day in 1995 like it was yesterday. :thumbsup

Semi final win in 2001 against the Blues was a ripper too

I thought at the time the signing of Ben Cousins was the greatest thing ever....however he wasn't the messiah - just a very naughty boy.

1995 was a great year. Beating Hawthorn in 1994 after such a long time was a great highlight.

Some good suggestions so far. Here's a few more..

Richo's 7 goals in the wet at the SCG in the win against Sydney in round 7, 2004.
Also loved his 2008 season on the wing. Nearly pinching the Brownlow.

Nathan Brown's match winning quarter against the Pies in round 8, 2005.

Jack Riewoldt's 10 against West Coast in 2010.

Brad Ottens 2001 season. Thought we'd unearthed a ruckman for the next decade.

Dusty's signature don't argue and astounding 2nd season in 2011.

For me it was that three week stretch in 2005 when we beat Port Adelaide, Carlton and Collingwood in succession. Not only hadn't we beaten Port since 1998 at that stage, but they'd given us some fearful maulings, and once again had jumped out of the blocks early. Not only did we reel them in, but we then proceeded to blow them apart. I was leaning over the fence just giving it to the Port players as the Tiger goals rained over their heads. It was just 7 years of frustration and hatred coming out.
Speaking of hatred: The next week was a club record DEMOLITION of the Blues. Carlton had been coming back from a long way down in recent games with some quick and heavy scoring. But we opened up such a huge 1/2 time margin that there was no way back for the SCUM.
The next week, Collingwood stacked their backline and tried to kill the contest and win ugly. And for three quarters it was real ugly. Then Nathan Brown went nuts in the last quarter and it was game over. What delight I took in waving goodbye to the mass exodus of fickle Collingwood fans.

Makes you wonder how far we could have gone if Browny hadn't snapped his leg soon after :'(

1995 was a great year. Beating Hawthorn in 1994 after such a long time was a great highlight.

I was at Princess Park for our first win against WEst Coast in ten years in 1995 and met Flea in the outer who was playing for a Tassy team at the time.

Was in the cheer squad for the North game when everyone got handed a free flag.

The roar when the lads ran through the banner was unbelievable.
Pity Carey tore us a new one.

Then got front row Punt Road End ticks for the Veruca game and that game was perfection.

I was near the people singing the song at the Cats game at Arctic Park.

Disco Roach and Emmett Dunne were sitting higher up in that same area too.
Capped off a great year and promise in the air then the wheels fell off lol.

Loved the draw that year too.

The game when we knocked off Carlton last round 1998?

I was drunk that game LMAO.

Danced on the oval after the siren went.

I gave the Matts Wilander fist to the players as they came down the race and Bondy returned the favour.

Was an awesome game that one.

And the Richo show when we last beat Carlton round 1.

Had a row of snotty bandwagon teenagers bagging Richo all game then Richo won us the game.

"How's Richo now mate?"

The win against Brisy when we were down by quite a lot and pulled off a memorable win with Bowden kicking the winning goal after the siren.

I dont get a chance to get to many games so if I had to choose one was the day we beat the Crows at Telstra statium with keepings off. Was so funny, Bowden kicks it to Bowden who kicks it back to Bowden. Then richo would get down back and we would panic he was going to do a richo thing (think he did a couple 0f times).  Was sitting in a bunch of Adelaide supporter and had the best time with them ;)

Sheedy desribed it as basketball, but it was cleaver at the time, our only win against the Crows this Century.

Dam AFL site is crap, I was looking at the History of the two clubs to find the right year (2006) and noticed no other wins since 1999. But I didnt notice the stupid site cut off the History at 2009.

True.
One of the lowest feelings after the '82 granny.

Remember the Dees supporters smiling and smirking when it happened.

If I could name a moment it was our first final in '95 v NM...when the banner went up and a Y&B swarm went around the ground ...pretty sure it read...We're Back....13 years of dissapointment poured out in that moment, we were euphoric :cheers

Yep we lost kicking 11 23 89 to 18 9 117 in 1994 we beat them in the wet at Waverley in rd 3 1995 kicking 4 16 40.

We also beat West Coast for the first time in 6 years at Princes Park in 1995.

1993 Foster's Cup. We lost the GF but 70k at Waverley for a preseason GF reminded everyone how big a supporter base we had/have if we start producing onfield. We're still waiting to finally prove it  :-\. Hopefully in the next few years it will come with our current young crop coming through together united.

First 12 rounds of 1995 where we went 11-1. A Collingwood mate of mine at the time said it was the first time as a Magpies supporter he felt intimidated by an opposition crowd. Sadly the injuries to Richo, Freezer and even Wigney (who was our CHB) eventually told despite the great SF win.

Beating Carlton in the final round of 1997 to knock them out of the finals after they had lead by 7 goals.

The every dog has its day game against the Dogs in round 17, 2001.

As RR said - Browny's pre-leg blitz. We all just felt gutted after that Melbourne game and not because we lost.

Richo kicking 10 against the Dogs in 2004 and Jack doing the same against the Eagles in 2010.

The drafting of Cotch having seen him play a few times in junior footy. I knew we finally drafted a ripper youngster.

Round 1, 2012 win  - well we can live in hope  :pray
