Club Previews: Richmond Tigers

We come up to my beloved Richmond Football Club.

This year the Tigers are one of the more relevant fantasy based sides, through a couple of handy recruits that should play from day one, players changing positions and the expectation that the team as a whole should improve again.

I definitely think it’s a case of ‘buyer beware’, especially early for the Tigers, who face a terribly difficult start to the season coming up against the likes of Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong and West Coast in the first five rounds.

See, I’m not yet convinced by Martin. I have no doubt he’ll have a fantastic season, but is he really a ‘must have’? At his price, you’re picking him as a premium, and the way I like to select my initial premiums is to determine whether or not they’ll be in the top seven (for forwards) at season’s end.

Consider his competition for those seven spots: Steve Johnson, Paul Chapman, Buddy Franklin, Dayne Beams, Adam Goodes, Nathan Fyfe and Travis Cloke were the seven best forwards last year. After that you’ve got Matty Pavlich, Ryan O’Keefe, Mitch Robinson, Colin Sylvia, David Zaharakis… the list goes on. Is his year really going to be good enough to justify selecting him above one of those other, mostly proven superstars? Personally I think it’s something of a risk, particularly considering Richmond’s draw and the fact that he’ll surely draw more attention this year than last.

Massive lulz at whoever wrote this in the comments section.
