Healy, Russell and Caro are on 3aw at the moment. Healy brought up that Carlton could handle a round 1 loss but if Richmond loses again to Carlton there'll be some fallout given the rising expectations of Tiger fans and given the Blues ordinary preseason and injuries. Caro replied if it's a narrow loss (4 goals or less) there won't be any fallout but if it's a bad loss it will majorly disappointing. Caro then said she takes no notice of NAB Cup form so she is tipping Carlton although her heart is on the Tigers and she expects Richmond to make the Eight this year. Healy said competitive losses won't wash this year; Richmond has to start winning games.

I was talking to a fellow Tiger tonight on the phone predicting this exact type of comment from weasels like Gerald.
As he said, were just easy targets atm

Didn't stop the sky falling in last year even though we only lost by 20 points after leading well into the last quarter - something that has been largely forgotten in the diatribe from opponents of us having the season opener each year.

If anything, it's the media beating us up, not the supporters.

The worst thing we can do is let the scum get a big lead on us, I really think we can and should win this game, not based their injuries, being underdone etc... I honestly think we are better.
But hey if we lose, we can't change it.

We lost by over a hundred against them last time up. If it's that bad again I'll be peeed off.
I think the Blues have more to lose if we win.

we wont lose

Hi First time post but I have been reading for a while
I think the fall out for both clubs will be the same, if its a close contest then neither club will lose much credibility however if the margin is more than 7 goals, then the heat will be on either loser

Hi TE, welcome to the forum.
I see it like this, if we get flogged we will be accused of being the same old Tigers....bla bla bla......
If we win it will be because the Blues are underdone and riddled with injury, although they only have 3 out and one more that is not a star or regular name. We also have King out....but that won't bother the press.
If the Blues do win, they will be hyped up as top 4 favourites.......no matter what happens we lose even if we win..... :-\
-
I think if the Blues lose by more the 7 goals the heat will start on Ratten as they have already lost all the preseason games.
Will enjoy seeing the pain in their supporters eyes as they comtemplate their season. :shh
-
carlton are underdone, we've had a solid preseason getting plenty of run into most players - would take a massive capitultion from us to get smashed here. We should go in confident(not cocky) we can win this
-
Dead right TM, this is the best team, fittest team, best prepared team going into round one, hardest team, biggest bodied team that we have had since the opening games we played against the Pies......

Only one way to change perceptions..

True WAT but if we win, we don't lose, regardless of what any media knobs write or say. There will be much love and rejoicing among those who are the only ones that matter - us!!

Carlton are going to have to produce their very best football to beat us in round 1.
If they don't the Blues are going to receive one hell of a tiger mauling.
Its funny looking at sites like "Talking Carlton" at the moment. You know they are in trouble when Blues fans are hoping they can "flick the switch" for rd 1.
Other arrogant fans believe they have been foxing the entire preseason.(some people believed the Thorpedo was foxing ::))

I don't understand why Blues supporters are so confident. On Big Footy for example they already have this one ticked off. You can't just switch on form. Ratbag's excuse is they were just getting mins into their group and ignored score line. I don't understand how this would benefit any way at all when they're getting walloped by sides like Brisbane and couldn't get a single inside 50. This means for an entire game they couldn't initiate their press. Duigen, Jamison and Laidler out, all key players to their press, the backup blokes haven't had much opportunity to practice the game plan in match conditions. With no form, no practice and missing some major posts in their press, and the complete opposite in regards to us who have upgraded and improved personel, form, and game structure, they should be more than a little worried heading into this game.
Edited for wacko autocorrect.

True
But I reckon we need to play our very best footy too ;D
-
Really we just need -
1. Maric to provide a contest and give our midfielders a chance at getting first use. This should be made easier with Warnock out but they still have a handy ruck division.
2. Win the contested ball. Tuck needs to be in the middle with Foley, Cotchin and Martin on the ottom of the packs feeding it out.
3. Stop the ball coming out the back. The Blues have smashed us by weaving through our press after turnovers allowing their smalls to kick easy goals. We need our press to turn the tables on them.
All of these are achievable. All of these seem more certain than not based on preseason form but....it is preseason form and history shows us they are a 16+ goals better side than us last time we met :o

Dead right Smokey, there will come a time when we earn the respect, it might come in the first 5 rounds... :shh

Reality check.
How can u blame anyone for expecting that to happen given our record of wacko outbreaks as supporters?

Interesting hearing Judd on the radio today. The Blues see us as a very big challenge and it didn't sound like the usual rhetoric.
Their fans might think we're easy beats but the skipper sure doesn't.
-
Beating Carlton would send a clear statement to other sides not to take us lightly. To win we need to dominate the clearances and expose the weakness in their defence. Agree we need to dominate the hard ball gets but most importantly we need a team effort- everyone needs to play their part. They have more to lose than us
-
The media pump and goad us up and the same media bring us down and ridicule us.
Let us continue to play with a straight bat and our on and off field situation will sort itself out.
There is very little interest here for Swans v Giants as we all know the Giants will lose heavily and people here in the heartland are just waiting for the season to kick off with a game that matters next Thursday. These guys are just talking about a result they want or expect to pan out. ::)
Maybe Healy would like to elaborate on the fallout.
Is it same old Tigers fallout
or "Healy off, Ellingworth on" fallout
or "I'll shut up if you give me possessions" fallout. :lol :rollin :lol
-
...confident - but still the past years have me a tad nervous...on the plus side - agree that we've got the best side/fittest side heading into an opener that we've had in years, some good momentum with a couple of solid /wins (the cats win HAS to have given some of the boys belief) and with their outs being key posts I think we have the line up to trouble them (Jack and TV should provide enough headaches up forward)...the 2 biggest keys though for me are 1) that we appear to have tightened up our defense/zone under Ross Smith and don't look like we'll leak as many goals out the back - something that has deadset flogged us over the years & undone our grunt work and 2) we might have a ruckman who is at least competitive...

Furthermore the filth have struggled to break down Hawthorn defensively under Clarkson and have not beaten them since 2005. I don't know how long Smith had been at Hawthorn since Clarko was coach but for me its a positive that Smith's defensive structures have stood up well despite the filths attack and midfield strength and has been unable to break it down and kick big scores against Hawthorn. :thumbsup
Another positive for us. :thumbsup

^ couldn't agree more - one of the most pleasing things of this preseason was watching us implement Smith's structures/plans & look like we could actually maintain them...can't stand the pee & poo hawks but gotta admit I don't mind us "modelling" a lot of our game plan on them through Hardwick, Smith etc....successful clubs are worth "imitating" & adding your own twist

Tell me a side whose supporters will enjoy losing their first round match?
These questions are so farcical that it is embarrassing. Of course we will take it badly. It has to be put into perspective though. Carlton finished very close to the top four last year. We were nowhere near the top four. We have made some list improvements and maturity is slowly coming to our young cubs. No real supporter expects us to make top four. Carlton has been tipped by some to be the premiers. They have some injuries which will effect them and so the gap will be lowered from the last match we played with them.
So you see, if we lose we will be upset like any true supporter would be. That is very different than us tipping manure at the door step of the club. If we lose by over 100 points though......you never know what will happen.

Can't barely wait for Geralds insight into our defeat on Monday night

The media first buildith you up and then the same media knockith you down :whistle. The Herald-Sun online had a one-word answer for each club's round 1 performance and no surprise they wrote "Richmond: predictable"
