Tigers ‘using Hawks tactics'

CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says Hawthorn can take some of the credit for Richmond's improved defence.
The Tigers nabbed former Hawks assistant Ross Smith at the end of last season and Ratten said his influence at Punt Rd was obvious.
"They've (Richmond) used a few new tactics, with players off the back of the square, (they've) really taken a leaf out of the Geelong and Hawthorn (book)," Ratten said.
"Ross Smith's there now, so whether they've used some of those tactics that they did at Hawthorn, with seven defenders, they've sort of gone down that path so our players are fully aware of what they're doing.
"But who gets the advantage when and how quickly in the game will be pretty critical for both teams."
The need to be more "Hawks-like" was evident last season as Richmond conceded 52 inside-50s a game compared with Hawthorn's 42.
Carlton has defeated Richmond in their past seven meetings but, after a promising pre-season at Punt Road, where the Tigers took down the Hawks and the Cats, Ratten expects a fight.
"When the ball gets bounced, every team gets to feel each other out; it's like an arm wrestle," Ratten said.
"It'll be feel each other out and go from there, but hopefully we can get the game on our terms."
Ratten dismissed talk captain Chris Judd would require extra treatment and physio on his shoulder in the lead-up to Thursday.
"It's the first I've heard of it," Ratten said.
With defenders Michael Jamison (back), Jeremy Laidler (knee) and Nick Duigan (thigh) all out of the Blues' season-opener, Ratten said it was a chance for Paul Bower and Jordan Russell to rekindle their careers.
"We've spoken about that, even at the start of pre-season, that was one year, now it's another season so they can really change perception or change the landscape around them in regards to how they're perceived and how they perform in 2012," he said.

Ratt has said a few times he knows our game plan. Considering everyone has known everyone else's game plan for how ever long now, it really sounds like he's starting to poo himself.

Make it stop make it stop.

Nice game being played out in the media
Tigers aren't blinking

Interesting Ratten would say they are well prepared for 'Hawk tactics' given the Blues haven't beaten the Hawks since April 2005 in Clarkson's first year at Hawthorn.

That is funny. :thumbsup He almost seems to be trying to convince himself and his supporters that they have nothing to fear from the Tigers recent NAB success and subtle change of tactics. I remember how affronted he seemed after our first game last year where we got the jump on them early, that the Tigers had played different tactics than they had used over the preseason. How dare we!
How do you think our rucks will matchup/compare against theirs?

Imperative that Maric stands up. Right up. Kreuzer turns into an extra midfield after the ruck contest, so Maric will really need to win as many contests as possible to give us first use and negate Kreuzer's mobility.
-
Both hampson and Kruezer have it over Maric athletically, he's going to need to rough them up and bash into them nice an early to soften them up

how do you know this tony? give me some stats?

im spewin this is out, i became well aware after watching first couple of NAB cup games and deliberately said nothing, knowing who trawls these forums :shh

The filth would be aware Ross Smith is our defensive coach, hence the fact rotten seems quite apprehensive in his interviews. They don't need us to hide it on a forum.
Let the bastards suffer I say. If anything they can't underestimate us like they have in previous years and they know they are in a contest.
-
Amazing - who does Ratten think invented these proven tactics in the first place
-
Furthermore if the filth think internally they are premiership material but they can't beat Hawthorn or for the better part kick a winning score against a sides defensive structure then I am more than happy for us to knock that filth down a peg or two and give them another defensive structure to contend with that will be impossible to beat.
Would want nothing more in footy than giving that filth a taste of reality on Thursday. :thumbsup

Whatever works.
The heat is about to be turned right up, I hope we're able to execute the 'Hawks tactics' in the season proper.
