A CROWD of up to 75,000 is expected for tonight's opening-round clash of Richmond and Carlton at the MCG.

Just over 60,000 fans were at the corresponding match last season, but MCG officials believe Richmond's expected rise could attract more than 70,000. An MCG spokesman said he expected general admission tickets to still be available on the night.

I think the thing that hurts the crowd a little is that it is on a Thursday night. Bit tough for country families to come up with school/work the next day. It ends up a late night.

When it is all said & done the crowd size will be heavily influenced by how many MCC & AFL members turn up.

They show up you may get 80k +, they stay home and you may only get 70k

I'll be there similar time, leaving work in Mulgrave at about 4.15. Might be able to catch some of the curtain raiser and pay a visit to the tiger superstore!  :gotigers
